Whakatane Hotel

Staff was courteous and helpful.

Room was small, outdated, towels were old and frayed, fan was so stuffed up with dust that you could not feel any breeze (and it was a warm night) and there is a window in the room above the door that lets in the hallway light, so it was hard to get to sleep. With a small amount of effort, it could have been a better experience.

Very shabby kitchen and only one toilet for ladies. Room like an oven I couldn't sleep at all had to be 50dc and no fan or AC

They were able to store my pack the morning before and the morning after my stay. Free tea and coffee and milk for hot drinks were good.

No coffee or milk. Oh I couldn’t find the coffee or milk.???

Clean tidy reasonably comfortable . Handy location. And I didn't have to worry about drink driving?

Very little bedding so heater was well used. Not where you would take your partner for a romantic weekend, but served my purpose. Could do with coffee/tea making facilities

Location is great in the middle of town. Room size is ok, bed is comfortable. I like the choice of live band songs played at the entrance of the hotel. Full furnished shared kitchen for hotel guests to use.

Not suitable for light sleeper for weekend (Fri & Sat night). I might be wrong, but I'm wondering why is there a non-functioning sink in the room. 1 of the ladies bathroom locked is finnicky; needs some adjustment.

Being an old timber building noise carries quite a way. Residents accessing their rooms, bathroom facilities, etc, allow their doors to slam shut at all hours of the day and night. The noise is like an explosion, especially when you are trying to get to sleep. Other guests forget that sound travels , and their personal loud discussions within their room can be a bit annoying. One of the staff who is very welcoming also has a very loud laugh that sounds like an hyena, and it seems to be unleashed at least every 60 seconds in the dining room. So….did l enjoy my overnight stay ? Overall l did, but you’ve asked for what annoyed me, and now you have the answers.

We loved our room, it is really old and beautiful building. A very comfortable bed! basin in room was great! and the room was shabby but clean!!! We loved walking every day to the whakatane heads and eating fish and chips at 'Gibbo's on the wharf ''excellent food.!!!

Moldy show curtain, over flow kitchen bin, smelly fridge. we avoided the kitchen. At night there was lots of loud street noise from below, with loud swearing, music and huge fight needing the police with their sirens. very noisy!!! and loud motor bike's . But we were warned before staying, about noise!!!

Right in the middle of Whakatane, easy to get where I needed. Staff were awesome, very friendly. Bed was very comfortable, the room was spacious and clean with a good sized TV. It was also surprisingly quiet for a Friday/Sat night stay, probably as my room was down the back of the hotel.

The bathroom was so tiny I couldn't have taken a cat in there, let alone swung it! There needed to be a long mirror somewhere in the bedroom. I am a night owl and was unable to use the kitchen or the balcony outside between 10pm and 6 am. There also needed to be a working power point near the bed, instead of having to hang cords under the TV.

Location was good did have trouble with parking

The fan in room was not working however if the curtains were sunblocking the room wouldn’t feel so hot.. the shower was very dated

Location was great, staff helpful, room and bathroom adequate, right in the centre of town, restaurants, shops, cafes, walks all close by. Short drive to beaches and beautiful areas.

The shared areas could do with major clean up. We realise not everyone tidy and caring. However, if staff and everyone make effort could be far better. Felt pricey for what we had. Not all amenities available or working. Shortage of basic items eg cups, spoons, cereal bowls.

Staff were pleasant and helpful. Great location.

Understaffed, main desk was not always manned so you had to go looking for assistance. No fans, felt it on hot days.
