    Pros +

    • Stylish and quiet. Excellent breakfast.
    • Very well maintained château, comfortable bed and very friendly staff! Very nice setting
    • I booked a room accessible for people with reduced mobility. When I arrived, it turned out that the elevator was out of order and remained so for my entire stay (2 nights). While it may happen, the normal course of action would be to notify the guests in advance. My second comment is about the hotel area. It is located in the forest and it would be nice to introduce a street lamp at the entrance to let the guests find the place.

    Cons -

    • They are doing a lot of construction. It wasnt noisy but detracted from the vibe
    • It is not close to the city, so no ideal without a car. Room was a bit small.
    • we could not fault a thing. it was wonderful

What an amazing location and wonderful chateau. We were met with wonderful and friendly staff that helped us every step of the way. The room was immaculate and had an incredible view over the valley. The bar and restaurant were wonderful and parking on site is great. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and special weekend away then we cannot recommend this place more.

we could not fault a thing. it was wonderful

It was a very classy place to stay. The grounds were beautiful and quiet and luxurious. We didn't take advantage of the ambience that was offered, but it would have been nice to sit in the lounge area and take it all in. We also didn't have the breakfast because it was quite a bit extra. There was coffee in the room which was very nice. The room was very clean and it did have an elevator, although the stairs were very wide and had a nice railing.

Our room was tiny and had very little place to put our things. Breakfast was very spendy.

⸻We had an excellent and very comfortable stay at Les Châteaux des Forges, a cool and quirky hotel set in beautiful grounds just off the A11, only a short distance from Angers. We stayed for two nights on our way north and were very impressed. The staff were professional, friendly and welcoming, and the whole atmosphere feels more like staying in a country house than a hotel. Our room, Joseph, on the top floor with views over the stunning countryside, was large and airy with a very comfortable bed, good shower, double sinks and a separate loo. One practical point to note is that the lift was out of order during our stay, so those with mobility issues should be aware. The heated pool was a bonus with late afternoon sun. The property does not have a traditional restaurant but offers a light snack menu. We chose to eat out in Angers on both evenings. The hotel can arrange a dedicated taxi service into Angers at a fixed €38 return, which is very convenient. We also drove to a nearby tram station and found the tram system into the city excellent. The hotel does not have a traditional bar but beer, wine and cider are available if you ask the staff. If you’re looking for a relaxed stay with character, charm and a quirky vibe, this hotel is perfect.

Lovely staff, welcoming, friendly and helpful.Nice view over the pool to countryside from the terrace of main house. The breakfast was amazing, especially for such a small hotel. Lots of choice of delicious beautifully presented food. All seemed very freshly prepared too.

Be aware of very limited evening ‘snack’ menu and that you have to make your choice in advance. Nice food though We were in the annex building. Although the room was nicely done, there was a slight ‘drain’ smell from bathroom. We were only staying one night so didn’t report it at the time.

Idyllic location. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and delicious. Bed comfortable and washroom spotless

The pool is heated! The rooms are very spacious. There is a lift.

You may hear some noise from the highway nearby.

The staff were friendly professional and helpful,we arrived too late for snack supper but were directed to a short walk through the wooded grounds to a charming little riverside cafe accessed by a free cable ferry.Next to the cafe was one of the oldest biggest map!e trees we've ever seen.A delightful evening. We declined the pricey buffet breakfast, needing to leave early. The room in the annex was small but comfortable and had tea and coffee making facilities.

Beautiful location and fabulous building. Staff exceptionally attentive and helpful. Food really good and breakfast fantastic.

Not a dislike as such more a be aware that transport will be needed to get to restaurants and Angers. But easy on bike, car or bus.

    9RobertPosted on: 9-10-2025

Lovely old building, friendly and helpful staff.

Optional dinner was not the best, expensive, and poor quality, best avoided. Good selection for breakfast...be better if they offered more coffee option. Basic comfort room was too small, so upgraded, much better.

Amazing hotel at a great price. Close enough to Angers and easy to walk to the local Island. The breakfast was exceptional as was the ‘snack’ food we had one evening

There is nothing to fault about this hotel - it’s a real gem

    9GraemePosted on: 9-7-2025

The pool was fantastic as temperature was close to 40 degrees!

No air con just a fan in ceiling..

Lovely rooms and grounds, very nice shower, delicious breakfast!

    9KathrynPosted on: 8-4-2025

The setting of the building in very private wooded grounds, yet very close to the motorway. The heated pool was a treat, easy to get into. The staff were very welcoming and professional.

The breakfast was a little disappointing, with no hot tray. Eggs were cooked fresh when you asked. Dinner had been precooked and heated in a microwave.

Lovely property with some quirky items in the property - dinner and breakfast were amazing as were the team who looked after us
