Pros +
- Lovely staff and location
- The fact that it was for only one night, and we could dine elsewhere.
- The lady running the hotel/bar was lovely and the location was great. Good music and pool tables
Cons -
- Need more parking
- No safe heating was offered; the bed was terrible, the bedding was worse, and the paint was peeling off the walls. It was not the room advertised in the photos. Urine stains and odour in the doorway or access area. Surprised no menu at the bar. You had my booking since May, and we got such a terrible room. None of the photos showed the "Queen" room we were in.
- Suffering from damp, wallpaper peeling off the walls, black mould in the bathroom and very tired decor throughout. It was otherwise clean

Place is in a great location and a good price but this is reflected in the stay.
Bedding had stains, no reception - just a note to call a number for the entry code when you get there - which is fine but reflects more as a hostel than a hotel so I would recommend changing how you present! Beds were super uncomfortable and hard, walls were super thin so you can hear everything too. It definitely requires a bit of maintenance but if you're happy with super basic for a decent price then it's fine!
The shower
The peeling wallpaper and the mould in the bathroom
I arrived late at night and left early the next morning - the staff was very accommodating, which was a huge help. The building and its furnishings are old, but they maintain cleanliness. Overall, you get what you pay for, and for this price in the area, I find it completely reasonable. I’ll definitely stay there again next time.
Many small inconveniences could be fixed easily and cheaply: spraying all the squeaky doors with CRC/WD-40, sanding down the sticking doors and windows a bit, and implementing a routine fresh coat of paint in the toilets and bathrooms.
Breakfast was not expected and not provided.Wi-Fi was workable (weak but good enough).
Curt and dismissive reception at check-in.Loud machinery noises (maybe pumping) at random times throughout the night. No hot water.
Quiet location, historic hotel, very comfortable accommodation.
Location great, cheap
Outside my window a chiller was going on and offer every 15 mins, right through the night. Big screw in bathroom sticking out of floor. No signage or check in info on who to contact if there was an issue. Bathroom door very hard to close
Hotel desperately in need of refurbishment, very scruffy - but very clean, central and cheap.
Quite bad
Our door randomly opened in the middle of the night, super mouldy bathroom, cold tap didn’t work
Location was in the centre of town. Price reflected age of property
Bathroom was very dated and had peeling paint on ceiling due to no ceiling fan. Adequate
That I could leave
Room was,5 meters away from the hotel chiller compresses which started up hourly. Shower control was uncontrollable. 31 degree heat and no fan in the room. No food is available at the Hotel.
Room was tidy and clean.Pillows could be better though. Pillows were to soft.
Location to cafe's restaurants bed was comfortable
Parking difficult too far away to bring bags in. Couldnt bring in front door off street & get them up the stairs to room. There was no mirror in room or bathroom the handle on bathroom door was hanging by one skrew couldn't pull it to shut . We wouldn't stay their again.
The girl that greeted us was nice
Didn’t like the bed was just a double and very soft felt like you were going to fall out all the time
Right in the center of town, close to shops with a beautiful view of the river. The cleaning lady was by far the shining star, she was very helpful as she was the only person to be seen or heard of outside the pub next doors open hours.
When we first arrived they didn't have our booking, then while sorting it proceeded to ignore us and serve the patrons in the pub for 15 minutes before getting to us.The multiple broken room keys, with no spares. The mould (Bathroom). The rotting wood (Bathroom) Windows and floor.Uncleaned extractor vent (Bathroom)The paper covered window (Bathroom).Scuff marks on multiple walls (Room)No air-conditioning (In summer)One toilet roll for the 3 days we were there. The multiple unanswered phone calls.
We got a place to sleep at night.
This place should not be allowed to operate as a hotel due to health and safety hazard. Bathroom is full of mould and blood stain on one of the extra mattress in the cupboard. Smallest bathroom basin and un-supportive staff. The day I supposed to check in I wanted to check in late as I wanted to spend some time in Wanaka. I called up to make sure they are informed. The reception lady told me I should check in by 9pm. I complied and reached there before 9. Then there was a different person in the reception and his first question was if I paid for the stay. When I said yes, he called someone to verify. This was a bit strange as from my experience hotel staff should be able to check. Finally, when I checked in, I found the leaflet from the hotel that late check in can be arranged. I don't know why the lady denied it for me. I'm attaching the horrific images of the room. Decide for yourself.
Great location, nostalgic feel and the safety of the old fashioned fire escapes . The bed was surprisingly comfortable.
There was hair on the pillows. The shower and bathroom walls need a good clean from about head height up. ( I’m 6’3), the WiFi was not great. Lots of general wear and tear made the place look shoddy.
everything clean and tidy. The building is quite old but is alright.
the shower. not enough water and without pressure
