Pros +
- Clean, modern, quite large room in a good location withing walking distance of the Taranto train station. The complimentary breakfast was acceptable, but the staff seemed to have difficulty managing the espresso machine. The hotel front faces the stone wharves on the interior lagoon, and the old city is a working fishing port. You can probably walk around the entire island in less than an hour. The tour of the Castello Aragonese was wonderful. The newer city. east of the channel, has more to offer than the old city on the island. The interior of the hotel is nicely decorated with clever antique items.
- The shower is amazing! The rooms were very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was excellent with everything you could ask for. The staff was welcoming and helpful.
- Has everything you would expect from a fine hotel. So far, the best accommodations this trip. Location, food, thoughtful touches, helpful staff.
Cons -
- This hotel is in an old palazzo which is still under renovation. Older visitors may experience difficulty with the stairs, as not all levels have elevator/lift access. Taranto itself is an ancient city, dating to the Bronze Age. and some areas of the old city are badly in need of rehabilitation, which is more an issue for the city fathers than the hotel.
- No complaints!
- There was nothing to dislike.

No complaints!
We arrived in the evening on Easter Monday. Every where to eat was closed even their restaurant. HOWEVER, the owners went out of their way to ensure they prepared us a meal so we wouldn't be hungry!! What fantastic service. Our room was very clean and overlooked the harbour. It had a complimentary minibar with water and soft drinks. Breakfast was plentiful with very nice staff on duty.It was around a 15 min walk from the railway station and around the same to the castle area. We would definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed every minute.
There was nothing to dislike.
This place is a gem! Very spacious and cosy rooms and the staff are wonderful. Taranto is a interesting place to explore and this is the perfect base from where to do so.
We are regular visitors to Taranto. The location was great. We booked three rooms. The superior double room and the deluxe room were good value. Each had a generous sized room with a well proportioned bathroom, and walk-in shower. The scrambled eggs served at breakfast were delicious.
The deluxe double room with sea view and hot tub was terrible value, especially compared with the other two rooms we had. It turned out to be a small, cramped room called Bolle “suite”, and certainly not a suite. Small cramped bathroom without bidet (the only hotel room in Italy we have stayed in that doesn’t have one) and strange orange plastic handwash basin - see photo compared with superior room bathroom photo.Breakfast service was poor, verging on rude. After requesting a refill glass of orange juice a half empty glass was slammed down on the table! The hybrid “self-service” breakfast buffet was strange: guests were not allowed to help themselves to coffee and orange juice from the machines on the table next to the serve yourself buffet. We checked in just after the check-in time. The “suite” room was still being cleaned when we entered. The deluxe room had damp sheets that needed to be changed (and they were, very quickly on request). No one asked us how our stay was.Avoid the rooftop “suite” with hot tub, it’s incredibly poor value. Hopefully the hotel will revisit allowing guests to use the coffee machine and orange juice machine. Without these disappointments we would have had a pleasant stay and considered it good value!
The hotel is nice but the whole area is not touristy or worth visiting, the staff and a very nice too.
The area
The location is in the old town, which is undergoing gentrification, so there are some pretty run down buildings. However, it was a great location and the area is safe.
Beautiful hotel with excellent staff. The hotel was impeccably clean and modern. The bathroom was outstanding, featuring heating for extra comfort. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Thank you for everything!

The staff was very welcoming and kind. It was also helpful having the restaurant situated below the hotel for a quick and tasty meal upon arrival. The staff even accommodated an earlier breakfast and checkout for me.The room itself was very spacious and comfortable!
A charming and well-maintained hotel set in a historic building With a good view on the internal sea and close to everything. The rooms are spacious, bright, and tastefully furnished, making for a comfortable stay..
Not so easy to park the car due to the fact that service people of the hotel has to come out and remove the parking bollards, and there is not space to pull over the car in the waiting.
Palazzo Matà rooms are not numbered. They are named! We stayed at “Rosone”.We loved the room, the amenities, the staff, the breakfast and the convenience of the hotel restaurant that provided room service for us.They thought about everything we could need. The staff was there all the time to help us with everything we could wish for.The hotel has parking space for their guests in front of the hotel which we found to be very nice!
Nothing I can think of.
Location was tremendous - easy walk from train station - right on the quayside overlooking the beautiful bay - very relaxed - pleasant welcoming.
Nothing - all good.
The staff in general nice. The room was big. Mini bar included in the price. Welcome drink.
Location. It is very close to steel factory in Taranto and impossible to breath there. Not a nice neighborhood to walk around for a reason - proximity of the steel factory. Owner or the manager is not nice or friendly. He was rude to us from the moment of parking before even registering at the hotel. No one at the reception most of the time. No one even gave us the key from the room. It was just left on the reception desk. Room. Not very clean. Also mold on the walls. See photo.Breakfast - nothing spectacular. Eggs were fried with lots of fat/ oil. Very expensive for the value, service, location.
Very freindly owner. Beautiful design, and views over the harbor. Free welcome-apéritif, good food and free soda water/juice from the minibar.
The crew was very helpful. The location is excellent.
I couldn’t switch of the AC and it was a bit noisy
Very nice Boutique hotel . We booked a Junior suite with nice balcony overlooking the Mare Piccolo ( inner sea).and the Fishing Boats with Naval Base in the distance to the right . Booking . Com/ didnt make it clear that this was a 2 level suite with the Master Bedroom upstairs with a faiirly steep flight of wooden stairs . Bathroom and living room downstairs . Luckily there were 2 couches/single beds made up downstairs so we slept downstairs . Beds were very comfy , firm . Taranto is much nicer than we were given to think but after nearly 10 days of sea food that was the only thing to eat in outside restaurants as Hotel restaurant closed . Staff were good but evidently understaffed and became overwhelmed when a lot of people checked in on the Monday pm . Parking was great with a chain barrier . Helped us with the luggage and no problem for later check out . Dont miss the Castello Aragonese and the Duomo !!
For Older people or people with a trauma of stairs at night like us ( my friend in UK died recently from falling down the stairs) , split level is a problem and should have been mentioned , However if ever in Taranto would stay here again but book an ordinary room .
Excellent seafood restaurant at the hotel!Very nice and helpful staff.
Sketchy area, up and coming, but not there yet.
Clean bright, beautiful bed linen and towels, excellent location.Wonderful breakfast and a free welcome drink.
The friendliness of the staff.
The hotel is a jewel in it's location. I booked hotel as it seems near the bus and train stations. However it is very difficult to walk to the hotel with wheeled luggage. You have to cross road with no traffic lights, pavements disappear and traffic is constants. And you are waling past lots of run down, semi demolished buildings. There is very little near the hotel and I ate in the restaurant. But I was parked into the breakfast room away from the main restaurant. Even though it is close I got a taxi to the train station rather than walk back there/ Sad to say but my thought is you are better staying in the modern pat of Taranto.
