Pros +
- We stopped at Hanover Luxury Hotel on our road trip to Cape Town and it completely blew our minds. It’s the most beautiful oasis in the middle of nowhere. Everything was exceptional from the tranquil swimming pool and incredibly comfortable bedrooms to the carefully curated décor in every corner and the outstanding food. Highly, highly recommended, and a place we could very easily have stayed at for longer.
- Charm and comfort of country hotel
- An incredibly sensitive and creative renovation of the grande dame of the Karoo, the staff are wonderful, the food very tasty and the bed was heavenly.
Cons -
- Electricity problemsFood was excellent but not warm enough
- Absolutely nothing - all was excellent!
- I felt very sorry for the staff. Obviously committed to hospitality at the whims of an inadequate electrical supply.

We loved the efficient staff, the food was out of this world. The room was beautiful.
The staff were very helpful, charming and professional.
Absolutely nothing - all was excellent!
Quirky and delightful decor . Not overdone , just appropriate. Friendly Staff. Meals a delight of traditional and modern.
I felt very sorry for the staff. Obviously committed to hospitality at the whims of an inadequate electrical supply.
Walls painted black in the room made it very dark since the bedroom has no windows
Oasis on your way to Cape Town. Friendly staff, beautiful, clean room and shared spaces. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. Highly recommend.
This wonderful historic hotel has undergone a tremendous upgrade and everyone who greeted and served us were sincere and warm hearted. The food was divine. We wanted to stay and not just stop over.
The staff, food and accommodation was amazing. Jacques and his team know good hospitality! 10/10 to the kitchen team as well, we were very impressed. Make sure to bring cash to give the staff a well deserved tip! ?
The resturant service was poor. Despite advance notice of time of arrival had to wait 45 minutes. Then food cold. Poor outage but supplied with candle. Fire hazard so did not use. Power back up system did not work. Had a miserable night.
Everything was great: the decor, the food and the staff. Jacques was an excellent and accommodating host. Nothing was too much trouble. If you are travelling through the Karoo, it's well worth spending a couple of nights in this gorgeous hotel.
A excellent oasis after a long drive. Wonderful staff, food and facilities.
Beautiful decor, great welcome by Marinda, breakfast nicely presented. Wonderful fragrance diffuser in room and lovely Charlotte Rhys toiletries. Decent butter and jam (no little plastic tubs).
At breakfast: Many types of fruit juice on menu, but only one flavour available; coffee machine out of order, only plunger available. Toast was cold. Please don't publish items on menu that are not available.Dinner prices are exorbitant (and we are from the Cape...). We have stayed at various Sauer properties on 7 occasions so far. I guess we go back for the look and experience. What they all have in common is exceptionally beautiful decor (although the building craftsmanship and finishes in bathrooms, doors etc leave much to be desired). They unfortunately also have in common a lack of all round professional hospitality and staff engagement. Training, training, training is key...We feel that the whole group of properties could do with a more hands-on approach by the owner. Being a great designer and decorator is one thing, being a great hotelier is quite something else.
Great location, 2 min of the main road. Very good dinner. Jaques was extremely helpful and accommodating.
Everything, the hospitality, the decor, Jacques and the staff, the food. It was a perfect stopover
The hotel is uniquely decorated and stylish. A lot of effort was put into decor. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The airconditioning unit remote had no batteries and the ceiling fan pull string was out of reach.
We ordered the Braised Lamb shanks in red wine. One portion was not to bad but the second portion was tough and still cold close to the bone. The waitress ignored my complaint. When I told the manager that the meals were precooked and frozen, she was adamant that it was prepared fresh. I beg to differ since the time we waited to be served was not the time it would take to dish up a freshly prepared lamb shanks.I commented that if the kitchen get their act together, the all-round rating of this hotel would be better.
Nicely restored hotel, beautiful decorations and wonderful beds (although too short for us). The food was great and the chef very helpful in making vegetarian food for the kids.
The location feels unsafe, but luckily there is safe parking behind the hotel. Would never leave my car on the streets with all the guys hanging out there.
Amazing place in the middle of nowhere. Great stopover. The manager, Jacques, is just the best ever. Thanks so much, you make the stayover special.
Just spending one night.
Pleasant and comfortable.
Put some drawers in the bedroom. Use normal (flat) plates. Did not have any juice, even though listed on the breakfast menu - this is surely something basic that should always be available. The same goes for the bar that only had ONE Caste lite.
