Pros +

  • Location
  • Leon doro is an old hotel that has been subject to few, if any, upgrades since it was established. But the proprietress was pleasant, my room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, and the location and price, which did not include breakfast, were ideal for my needs. Parma is a delightful small city, and the hotel is located just off a major street; it is very close to the train station but also within easy walking distance of leading historical and artistic attractions. The WiFi functioned without any problem, but one would have no incentive to spend time in the place (other than possibly in the restaurant, which I did not try).
  • Very close to train station and easy walking access to the city centre. Host is quite a character with a soft heart which helped me, an injured traveller, without question. The accommodation has an old world charm which was a welcome flavour to me, unfortunately there is no lift but the staircase is gentle, wide and easy to traverse. The bathrooms are shared but there is sink the room, in mine at least.Do try the food in the restaurants run by the host on ground floor. One of the best meals I had in Italy.

Cons -

  • Dirty room, no hot water
  • The mood of the staff was terrible. When it was mentioned to them that a single room had been booked and they gave a triple (just to get sure they didn't make a mistake and allocated me the wrong place), they angrily changed to a single, in the 4th floor, without a lift, and without any further explanation.
  • A few basic upgrades can be recommended. They include fixing a broken tile on the floor of my room and placing a plug in the sink drain. The absence of a plug posed a problem for anyone with contact lenses, but the cleaning lady kindly supplied me with one from another room. Also, all blankets had been removed in view of the season, but the weather was still cool at night; fortunately, I had brought enough clothing to satisfy my needs without needing to ask for anything.

The location is perfect, 5 minutes walking from the station and ten minutes from the historical centre.

There was a tobacco smell in the bedroom. The bedroom was not that nice, with few light. But it was ok for one night.

Kind people(reception, cleaning staff), location, shower and room.

Really cool room furnished as if you're back in the 1900, cool and very clean. The owner is really nice and helpful and the shared bathroom facilities were always clean. Very close to city centre and supermarkets.

The building is at a main street with a lot of traffic so when you keep the window open the level of noise is high. Closing the window gives the peace and quiet I needed, though.

The price and location was great. Rooms are very big and clean. Staff very nice and kind. The restaurant is amazing.

I stayed in room 14. There was a constant loud almost (water dripping) like sound above me that kept me awake most of the night. It's an old building, perhaps this is to be expected.

Antiquated hotel. From the 18th century would not recommend staying here unless nowhere else is available...

Perfectly located just a 2-minute walk from the train station and less than 10 minutes from town. Good value for money. The room and bathroom were very clean.

I didn't realize that the private bathroom was outside the room. This was not as convenient, since you had to get dressed in the night to go and use the bathroom, and unlock the door with a key. This detail should be clear before booking.

A family run hotel/restaurant with a hundred years history. Five minutes walk from the historic centre. No need to look further for authentic restaurant because the hotel’s restaurant itself is of good quality and value. No place for parking but has a private parking building 100m away (10E/day). Friendly staff.

A bit loud if we open the window but a bit hot if we close it. No AC but has ceiling fan.

Great room friendly staff Great location and facilities

Very nice room, super clean - the cleaning ladies were cleaning the whole building every day and it always smelled lovely - and the shared bathroom was kept in perfect condition. I really liked the air conditioning fan above the bed and the toiletries were very nice as well. The hotel is located in an authentic, working-class neighbourhood of Parma, so I felt it was ideal to get to know how the locals really live. The hotel also has a restaurant downstairs with a very good reputation, and round the corner from the hotel there is a fab place for Sicilian dishes such as arancini (rice balls) and gelato.

The wifi did not work very well but I think it is because my room was on the top floor. It was not a big problem anyway.

Location next to the train station and 3min walk from the city centre very convenient, staff super nice even though we didnt speak the same languages, free water and clean rooms!

No electric aircons and only fans in the room which didnt really cool them down but ok for 2 nights!

3KeraPosted on: 7-16-2023

Good location + wifi - large room

Old, outdated, dirty. Shower needs a good bleaching & shower head replaced. Needs new furniture, air con and a paint job. Didn’t sleep all night because of the heat + noise from other guests + the main road below.

Very poor

The whole night it was loud and you could hear everything from other rooms. TV, kids, steps upstairs and the non stop vibrating of a phone ringing for 2 hours almost non stop

3EliaPosted on: 6-22-2023

Poor

The price was too much high taking into account the facilities quality (particularly, lack of roller shutter to the window, that made me wake up very early)

8SilviaPosted on: 6-17-2023

Nice staff, very clean, great location (3min from train station and 10 from city center), free water bottles!

Furniture was a bit old and the double bed was two singles placed together. These weren't a problem for us but fyi.

Poor

no bathroom, sink in the room and broken floor tiles. embarrassing
