About

Set within the Ribiera Sacra region and by the Miño and Sil Rivers, this converted monastery features a fabulous spa and beautiful central courtyard. Enjoy regional cuisine in the fine dining room and relax in the gardens. The listed Benedictine Monastery dates back to the 10th century and in true Parador fashion has been beautifully transformed into a chic and unique luxury hotel. Admire historic features such as stone archways, carved window frames, and the monastery's 3 original Baroque, Romanesque and Renaissance cloisters. Rooms are uniquely and elegantly decorated and some enjoy views over the Sil River and surrounding countryside. They are distributed along the 3 different cloisters. Dine in true Spanish style on the terrace of the Parador de Santo Etevo's restaurant while you try wonderfully prepared regional cuisine and enjoy views of the forest. Try ingredients caught straight from the river and the Galician coast. There is also a café in one of the cloisters, as well as a second terrace and lounges. Combine a Medieval setting with a modern approach to the ultimate in relaxation with a visit to the Santo Estevo's wonderful spa. It provides a wide range of treatments, massages and thermal circuits.

    Pros +

    • Beautiful historic monastery in a beautiful peaceful, scenic setting.
    • Gorgeous parador - the architecture, the location. Lovely staff.
    • Stunning property in a beautiful area. Friendly and helpful staff, delicious food, room was spotless. There are so many beautiful lounges and spots to explore. Fantastic artwork everywhere!

    Cons -

    • The dining room staff seem to be very unhappy, like robots. Casts a shadow over what could have been a very pleasant dining experience. All other staff including those in the informal restaurant, were very nice & engaging.
    • The only thing that would keep this from being a 10/10 for us was that the bed was very very firm. I don’t think we would have been able to spend a second night unfortunately.
    • Breakfast experience was a bit chaotic - a lot of staff around and I felt like I was always in the way and intruding. The breakfast crew was too busy with whatever they were doing to help navigating rather confusing breakfast arrangements. The food was OK, not exceptional, a big contrast to the restaurant experience (which was very good).Spa was unavailable. Apparently you have to make separate reservations in advance. It was not obvious when we were making hotel reservations.

Beautiful location, lovely blend of the old monastery with modern decor, decent restaurant, friendly and helpful staff

This place is a gem! Very spacious, clean and fancy rooms. The hallways are very wide and filled with couches, chairs, and historic artifacts facing historic courtyards. Views from the room are breathtaking. Staff is uber friendly and helpful. The monastery sits in the middle of nowhere, so don't expect any towns, shops. But do expect trails in the terraced chestnut orchards to walk. Restaurant is on the fancy side with enough choices even for vegetarians to get by with very helpful staff. Parking is free.

The property is beautiful and amazing renovations to the structure. The interior design is not up to its potential.

The staff is rude and unfriendly, specially the cafeteria people. Example: For breakfast I asked the server for a cappuccino and he (literally) said “If I have time I will make it for you”. I also need to say, the servers at the dining restaurant were descent.A vacuum was left in front of our door for the whole day, I personally had to move it to a different location.

    Silence, building parador.

reception:not that friendly. Room 229: not parador or not 4 stars worth: need renvation, douche in bath leaks water to the floor. Small: 2x2. Back of the parador is ugly and there is much work to do to make it clean. Coffee is not good, cakes are to sweet. I will not recommend this parador. It tends to be high level but it is not.

Location and historic building well preserved

The Restaurant Service was not so good.

The building is very beautiful. Location is really scenic and relaxing. Staff is friendly. Rooms are big. Breakfast is very good. Spa is also very nice.

Dinner start a bit late 8:30. I guess I also expected more of a wow factor as well on the menu.

Great room. Good food. Impressive building. Stunning location. Fine service.

Piped music in restaurant, breakfast room, etc could have been more appropriate. There are a lot of great Spanish musicians. 'World pop' seemed out of context.

Best experience for dinner at the restaurant downstairs, lovely check in staff , great service from almost everyone

Beautiful location and grounds. Sensitively transformed from historic monastery to Parador.

    9PaulPosted on: 9-19-2024

Spectacular location with stunning views. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and wooded walks.

Coffee and tea making facilities in the room would have been good.

    8ElliPosted on: 9-10-2024

Beatiful grounds, the rooms felt more spacious than in the photos and exceeded expectations.

Strangely this hotel lacked 2 important and standard things: 1-no coffee maker in the room, like all hotels. 2-Windows with no screens. As someone who gets severe allergic reactions to mosquitos, we had to keep the windows closed even though the outside temperature was not too hot nor cold, which wasn't great since I'm not a huge fan of sleeping with the air conditioner.

Amazing historic Parador (former monastery) in an incredible location towards top of the gorge. Spectacular

Restaurant was average - we only ate there 1 night and chose to go elsewhere the other evenings

Stunning building and location, nice restaurant, great breakfast

    10ConniePosted on: 8-28-2024

Loved loved loved the marriage between modern and monastery. The design was wonderful. Functional and light. The building is well maintained despite the centuries and it was so wonderful to feel so zen. ?

Some of the construction needs a little bit of love Upholstery but overall not much I didn’t like.

Stunning property in an amazing location with spectacular views over the Sil river canyon. Spacious, well appointed rooms and the whole place oozes history and atmosphere. A unique experience. We are in the Los Abades restaurant both nights and thought the food excellent.

Our main complaint was the lack of outdoor space - something highlighted by numerous others reviewers. The only open air dining space is a small terrace of about 12 tables at the Los Abades restaurant… you need to be there very promptly when the restaurant opens to be lucky to get one. The cafeteria is entirely indoors with a few tables in a glass- enclosed section of the cloister, and the menu is poor. We ate lunch at the nearby parador in Montforte de Limos one day and the food there was way better. The lack of outside space is the main drawback of this fabulous hotel, it feels a bit claustrophobic as there is no real space to relax outside of your own room , except one small covered terrace with about three sofas.

We liked the spacious rooms and the view. There is a small lounge area with a fantastic view of the forest and river and if you are into bird spotting it is a great place to listen to their fascinating sounds in the late evening.

The restaurant is not impressive and you have to go quite far at night for an alternative.

Experiencing an historic location. The quality of the decor. The surrounding woodland and the beauty of the building and courtyard. Parking was good.

Felt slightly impersonal as living in a museum. Road to the Parador, not for the feint hearted!
