The history and character of the hotel and its importance to the community was great. We were very comfortable, we had everything we needed and enjoyed the happy hour and bar food available while looking over the lake.

We did enjoy our stay but our room was a little run down. Needs a spruce up to make it perfect.

The view was fantastic, the bed was very comfortable. Friendly staff.We enjoyed the surroundings, went for beautiful forest walks.

Lack of instructions to use the TV.Some fixtures in bathroom and kitchen were becoming a bit loose.

Location, layout, restaurant/bar facilities

Needs more than one shower and more than one toilet for each gender. The issue was waiting for your turn.

Beautiful old building. Clean rooms with older furniture, but that was the charm. They have plenty of choices on the food menu as well as bar menu. Formal dining room, outside terrace and bar as options to enjoy the meal. Staff was friendly and helpful.

We had dinner around 7 pm and the waiter started setting up the breakfast table for the next morning right beside our table. She could have waited as it wasn’t busy evening.

There were no towels nor soap nor shower gel. When I asked they provided them promptly

The location

We originally booked for two nights, but unfortunately our stay was far from comfortable. Our room was only a few metres from the bar, which was noisy, played loud music, and apparently operated until 3am. There wasn’t a single comfortable place to sit anywhere in the hotel – the only seating available consisted of wooden bar stools or basic wooden benches.The room itself felt neglected; the net curtains hung about 30cm longer than the main curtains, and there was no plug for the sink.Although the staff were pleasant, the overall atmosphere of the hotel felt unwelcoming. In the end, our experience was so disappointing that we chose to leave after the first night and stay in a tent instead.

I liked how close it was to the lake

The walls were literally falling apart. The bathroom was yuck.

Beautiful location on a lake, fairly basic comfortable room. Very nice pub and restaurant.

Wifi barely worked from our room.

Everything, apart from being doubted that I had paid already and had to pay again. However when I went back again to the reception and showed them my bank transactions and my confirmation email I got the money back

Sorry written it in the first one. So I swap them over. The location is absolutely stunning. Nice touch I got a towel. That normally doesn't happen when I sleep in a dormitory

Great location overlooking the lake and with restaurant/bar that was great for a drink with a view. Staff on the phone prior to arrival were great, even allowing a change of booking date at short notice. I booked a bunk in a shared room. These were tidy and warm with a lake view. Linen and a towel provided. Off road parking. Morning staff were very friendly.

I booked a bunk in a shared room. Someone who did not have access to the room tried to open the door twice in the night around midnight. Not the fault of the hotel (I think it was a fellow guest from another room), however this did sour my experience. Three shared bathrooms were available - would not recommend using the disability access shower if you do not need to as it really made a mess of the room (water everywhere).

Great location, room was large and great to have a kitchen.

Not enough notice for when the band was playing although it ended up being fine and not as loud as expected. Should have emailed directly as requested an early checkin by phone and through the booking.com app but both were missed.

Could definitely be cleaner in places. Dust was everywhere including side of chairs. Didnt really want to sit on sofa.

The studio king room was spacious with a fantastic view of the lake. The kitchen was well stocked with key pieces and the water pressure in the shower, fantastic.

The nearby restaurant is noisy until quite late and despite fantastic food for dinner it took a long time to be served.

This is a stunningly beautiful location, and if you want to stay in an old school hotel from 60+ years ago with little/no rennovation of the bedrooms you are in luck.

As indicated above the bedroom and shared facilites were old and had not been rennovated for decades. The shared bathrooms and shower left a lot to be desired with stains on wall from several generations of insects and accumulated dirt. The checkin took a long time because the staff prioritised serving the bar customers. Noisy with the pub next door and comings and goings of staff with loud conversations outside bedrooms for at least an hour after closing time.

The restaurant meal I had the steak did not represent the price or value charged. We paid use of washing machine and a cleaning staff put dirty mop head into our wash cycle. Then when we went to put into dryer she collected the mop head from us with no explanation or apology. Not only was this a health and sanitary issue but was totally disgusting. My whites in washing was totally ruined and discoloured. Also not including the room my sister booked 2 doors down had 2 roof leaks in ceiling one in 2nd bedroom over kids beds and personal items got wet this room was uninhabitable and then the 2nd leak from kitchen ceiling. The kitchen fridge was not working properly with a constant leak inside and over floor, result ruined a lot of our combined food we had to throw out and they had to use our fridge in our room. Ended up having to split family members to another room away from us at night which was upsetting. When discussing with property Manager they already confirmed they knew about issues to that room and yet booked and charged full room rate for! We also enquired about our family unit over the phone if they had an oven not just hotplate so we could cook our Xmas dinner which they confirmed they had which was incorrect. Our experience was not the greatest or what we expected especially being our first Xmas together since the recent loss of our father and this place was highly recommended. In the end it was highly disappointing and overall ruined our entire 3 night stay and experience. We messaged/ emailed owner and got no response. Would highly not recommend!
