Pros +
- the views and location are amazing. good dinner (we had alacarte) and decent breakfast. the staff were friendly. the main lounge area is nice cozy on one side, but very "corporate meeting" looking on the other side. tiny but friendly bar/coffee area. nice restaurant. Looked like a good buffet although we chose to order off the menu.
- Beautiful views, comfortable rooms, good staff
- Stalheim Hotel offers an absolutely stunning and dramatic location—truly one of the most beautiful settings we’ve experienced. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the property features incredible hikes with unforgettable views. It’s a unique and memorable place to stay, with scenery that really sets it apart.
Cons -
- our room was one of the biggest/nicest available, with a balcony, but was weirdly chopped up with TOO MUCH and very dated old furniture. It could really could use a refresh.
- Because the hotel is very remote, you really need a car to get there. The rooms feel like they haven’t been updated since the hotel first opened, which may not appeal to everyone. The restaurant food wasn’t particularly tasty, yet the isolated surroundings mean you’ll likely end up eating there. Even the “beginner” hikes seemed inaccurately categorized and were more challenging than expected.
- The only thing that needs addressing in our room is the grout in the shower. The bathroom and shower were clean, but the stains in the grout were the only things that made it appear dirty.

The Stalheim Hotel was our first stay upon arriving in Norway. I had requested a room several months ago with a great view. They did exactly that. Our room was clean and comfortable and had the best view ever. They even left a little card on our bed, wishing us a happy anniversary. Very sweet! It was a great start to a great anniversary trip! We skipped the dinner at the restaurant (due to the tour busses being there), but it looked and smelled delicious. But the breakfast was nice! Would definitely stay here again! Those views do not disappoint!!

The rooms were simple and clean, that was what we were looking for as we were spending more time outdoors. The view was unexpected from the lobby living room. It was massive and stunning. The buffet during breakfast was included and has all you need. Location was quiet and close enough to the attractions. This is a massive hotel and sometimes the tourist bus comes in with many people. They disappear pretty quickly too so you never feel engulfed.
The pillows were terribly flat and blanket not warm enough for me. I did ask for more blankets and an extra pillow and the receptionist was very kind to bring them up to my room.
Location is fantastic
Beds could be more comfortable. Pillows are not great.
Absolutely beautiful location. The property is a little older but extremely well maintained. The staff are outstanding.
Nothing really.
The location was beautiful
The beds and bedding were not comfortable and it was oldBreakfast was not good - no selection/quality food.
Fantastic location, great restaurant, very friendly staff!
Location, the housekeeping staff
Food was terrible , wrong room assigned, some staff were great , some seemed uninterested in guests
Really dirty. This hotel is turning into a health hazard.
Haven't seen a hotel this dirty in a long time. This place is slowly turning into a health hazard. Stay away if you have allergies or asthma. The carpet floors look like they haven't been cleaned in ages. The walls are dirty and full of stains. This place is in a desperate need of a renovation.Majority of guests were from bus tours. Looks like the owners are trying to milk the contracts they landed as much as they can, instead of putting money into maintenance.I paid 170 euros to sleep in this mess. It's outrageous.
Superb location with scenic splendor and a good restaurant. Convenient to fjord towns of Gudvagen and Flåm. Quaint interior decorated with art pieces and objects balances an otherwise dullish exterior and older vibe. The rooms are comfortable and if you are on the valley side of the building the views are spectacular. It can be a bit hectic during the day as it seems to be a location for tour buses to pull up for a quick in and out photo op.
Absolutely gorgeous views from the Room and also from the Garden. Room is spacious with coziness and decent breakfast.Nice collection of shopping next to the reception, Overall we really liked the experience.
location , quiet, staff friendly.
Food variety was poor; not considering other cultures and tastes.
The breakfast snd dinner buffets were amazing and delicious. The breakfast and dinner buffets offered a huge selection of items.
When taking a shower, the tub was slippery. A tub mate is needed.
This might be one of the most special places I’ve ever stayed. Though not fancy, it is comfortable and clean, and invites guests to embrace the reason for travel - experiencing intense beauty and spending time with friends, new and old. Sitting in the lounge, watching the rain fall on the valley while enjoying a glass of wine was a highlight of the trip for me. Additionally, the staff were so impossibly helpful and kind, we hated to leave them!
Absolutely amazing views - this is what we came for. Nice breakfast. Super friendly staff.
The view was incredible and it was very peaceful. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The rooms are very outdated and need a refresh to be comfortable. Bed is worn down and the curtains do not shut out light. The food was not good. Once you r seen the view, there’s nothing else to do. They need to provide board games in the public area and play some music.
Location, accommodating staff, hospitality, the views, the “museum” inside, the outdoor museum.
Very basic room. Many tourists stopping by for the views.
While at Stahlheim, I fell off a cliff and required helicopter evacuation and hospitalization. The staff were marvelous, rising to the occasion andmaking every effort to assist my wife and I cope with this challenging situation.
