About
Located in the pedestrian area of Nîmes historical city center, Hôtel l'Amphithéâtre consists of 2 mansions dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is just steps from the Roman Amphitheater and the temple Maison Carrée. The rooms are individually and elegantly decorated and all offer a private bathroom and a flat-screen TV. Some rooms offer a view of the Place du Marché, with a fountain representing the town's symbols of a palm-tree and a crocodile. Guests can find restaurants, cafés and shops within walking distance of the hotel. Nîmes Train Station is a 10-minute walk away.

Pros +
- Staff very friendly. The hotel is in the heart of Nimes, near to the area on a quiet non-traffic street.Breakfast very good with large portions of bread individually cut and prepared on your own table and plentiful good coffee. The hotel notes say the rooms are on the third floor. To clarify, there a plenty of rooms on the second and third floors. They put our early checkin luggage in the room while we we out exploring the city. Very nice service.
- Charming hotel. Great location. Great hosts and owners. Good breakfast.
- Great location right by the Roman amphitheater, restaurants and shops. Walkable to other destinations. A brief walk to the train station but with heavy luggage you might want to consider a short uber ride. Friendly staff who speak good English. Breakfast does not include meat but great fresh bread basket, coffee, juice, yogurt and boiled egg.
Cons -
- Mattress was bad. Bathroom needed a thorough cleaning. Bedroom small.
- No shower. Tub has shower spray but no curtain so it takes a little practice to avoid getting water on the floor.
- Nothing. It was pretty darn nice

Perfect location walkable to the whole town and restaurants also. The hotel is older, but so is most of Europe. It was fixed up nice and the shower and heat and bed were all very nice and comfy. Perfect to rest and relax and them off to see the sights

Great location, great room, excellent value and friendly staff
Breakfast is just Ok
Amazing location!! The rooms are sweet. Beds are good.
Borders a lively square (which is fun) but there is some noise on weekend nights from the bars below. Closing shutters and using earbuds helped.
Very friendly staff. Great location with proximity to the Arenes de Nimes and situated in the old town with many restaurants and cafes nearby.
The bed was squeaky on one side and the mattress was slightly torn. The hallways were fairly noisy in the morning (possibly due to the cleaning staff).
Location and staff
No AC. Had to leave the window open at night.
Perfect in every way, most particularly the professional young staff— who were courteous, extraordinarily helpful, kind and friendly. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, the neighborhood is the center yet quiet, breakfast is excellent and copious. It was one of my best hotel experiences ever, and I’m a “genius” level travelers
Everything was perfect.
The staff was fantastic and so was the location. The room was on the small side but we didn’t spend much time there.
Staying on the 3rd floor (2nd floor in France). Walking up and down all the stairs multiple times each day was a bit rough, 4 months after my knee replacement surgery.
Bijou hotel next to amphitheatre and close to everywhere else. Light airy room, a little cramped but fine for solo traveller.
Could do with more plug points but that's normal for an older building.
Very central and near to good restaurants
The bed was uncomfortable and had a plastic sheet so we woke up very hot and sweaty. The bed linen was not cotton
Good size and comfortable room in an excellent location in Nimes. The hotel is ideally located to sample the food and historic locations.
Lovely big room, friendly staff, perfect location
Had to negotiate two floors, no lift
Great location in historical Nîmes. Cute decoration in an antique French Belle Époque style. Friendly and helpful staff.
The fuel oil heating smells very strong though luckily not in my room. The double windows are still not enough to insulate the noisy bars on the square below the windows. Please provide earplugs. The unheated toilet separate from the bathroom is very Vieille France. But for night time pees it’s not a vibe.
Proximity to centre. Historic character. Very friendly staff. Comfortable
There was nothing wrong with the hotel. But young people out for the nights got pretty noisy. Always quiet by midnight though
Location excellent! The room was comfortable and clean. We had breakfast on our own. We only stayed one night & then had an apartment rented. We would stay here again.
The luggage storage was in an open room, not secured.
Location was excellent. Staff were very nice
Breakfast was a bit limited
Beautiful room with view on the square. 1 minute away from the coliseum in the old city
Can’t think of anything
Fantastic location and great staff… David was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a little confusing but ok the roof was spacious
The bed was a little iffy
