Pros +
- The location was great, lovely view from our room. The hotel is spotless. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Matera.
- Beautiful spacious room with wonderful balcony and great view. Location of hotel was perfect. On the edge of both the old and new cities. Shopping and restaurants very near. Staff was exceptionally helpful.
- Excellent location, friendly and accommodative staff, great views in back rooms, excellent breakfast, great location in main area of town although expect stairs to Sassi area
Cons -
- Everything was great!
- If you are older or less mobile I would reconsider this hotel. It atop the hill so you will do many outdoor stairs to walk around Matera, and stairs or small elevator inside hotel. Taxi cannot pull up directly to front door so expect to carry luggage upstairs to street area (not too far).
- Breakfast coffee was not good, bitter and self make machine.

Best location in Matera. Beautiful building
Breakfast coffee was not good, bitter and self make machine.
Very good overall
It was more expensive than other places we've been to (with similar level of comfort) in Southern Italy, but I guess Matera is expensive (and we had a nice view from our window). Breakfast could be more diversified for this price. The staff was OK, but not specially welcoming as they were in other places we've been to. You can't make the room entirely dark so we were waken up by sunrise.
helpful staff, excellent location, cleanliness
Pros: Above all, the staff (Paolo, Antonio, Fania) were all lovely and made me feel at home. Paolo, who speaks fluent English, was a superstar and helped me with everything, from train reservations to local recommendations. My room was spotlessly clean, and comfortable to work in. The hotel cannot be more conveniently located - right in the centre of town, just a few minutes walk down to the Sassi area. Lovely breakfast room with freshly-baked pastries every morning.
Cons: Nothing at all. Would love to come back for a holiday.
The location is idyllic, worthy of its epic milieu and returning to the hotel will not disturb the awe ingrained in your experience of Matera. The hotel interior seemed new or at least very well-attended. I had a special coffee-related request early in the morning, and the gentleman at the reception was extraordinarily considerate in providing the extra service. It was an act of kindness - an espresso, that made my day. I would happily return!
Hotel location is so perfect. It’s in the city centre. Walkable distance from almost everything in the city .Staff is helping and friendly.
The entire property was beautifully decorated with antiques throughout. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. The location was perfect. The morning breakfast buffet was wonderful and abundant. One of my favorite places in Italy.
- Excellent location- Helpful and professional staff - Very clean- Comfortable beds
Loved this hotel. It’s in a prime location and it’s beautiful and adorable. Very clean very great staff.
Excellent breakfast in a beautiful room. Excellent location. Staff are very very helpful Very clean Good Wifi connection snd easy to charge devices.
No safe in room No coffee pot or pot to boil water for tea Not one news station like CNN or any other station in English.
The breakfast is very good, especially with homemade cakes, fresh fruit, and expresso coffee machine.
The room does not have a real wardrobe
Exceptional detail with the external and internal interior. Our room had a large balcony special view of Matera it was magical. Friendly and helpful staff.
It was very hot outside, room has great aircon. Very comfortable.
Breakfast may be good for Italians. For British people there is too much sweet stuff.
This was a last minute getaway. We were very happy to have the high quality room at this price. It was a great value. This was one of the few place where we could say the air conditioning worked really, really well. The room was a little small, but there was also a small but there was also a small bonus room that helped. Great location and good breakfast options.
It was a really small room.
the location
i bumped my head at the closed glass door entering the lobby .they should keep it open . the coffee machine served the worst coffee I have ever had.the furniture in my room was super heavy looking , the pillows so hard it gave me a terrible neck pain. I woke up in the middle of the night with a lot of pain in my neck and had to take medicine for the pain .no outlets to plug in my phone by the bed .no extension cords in the reception to borrow.
Located just on the edge of SASSI, a short walk from the public parking (which for a hotel in the SASSI is a great advantage!). A good starting point for the tour. Reception staff very polite and cooperative in advising the points of interest and restaurants nearby.it looks that the hotel consists of two parts, a very well maintained old world style part, and a modern part. We got a room in the old part, facing the small walking street outside the hotel. The room was very clean, big, with lots of old, well maintained wooden furnitures, comfortable bed, air conditioning works well. bathroom is small but clean and functional. Good atmosphere overall.breakfast was good, coffee acceptable.
A little but acceptable noise from the street below. wired noises from hotel pipelines throughout the night. bed was squeaking a little and should be modernized, but since we came for one night I didn’t complain. Refrigerator/minibar in the room consists of 2 small mineral water bottles costing 2 Euros each… for a hotel charging 180 Euros per night this is a very cheap approach… I was offered free water bottles in much less costlier hotels all over Italy.
Perfect location to explore the Sassi of Matera. Smart hotel, very friendly and helpful front desk and an excellent breakfast.
It’s all good.
