Pros +
- The staff were welcoming, and could not have been more helpful. The room was spacious. The breakfast furnished in the room was surprisingly excellent with a lot of fresh fruit, cheeses, bread, and a coffee machine.
- Staying in Sassi Matera wS incredible. One of our rooms was a cave room. It was incredible. It is a cave, so it is a little damp, but nothing beats the experience. Both of our rooms were clean and were stocked really well with fresh fruit and breakfast r
- It’s well decorated and clean, the breakfast was nicely in the room. The stuff was kind.
Cons -
- The reception was separated from the room.
- Because its the historic district, we had to park in a parking garage that closed by 8p and also needed to pick up the car by 1p the following day because the parking garage closed for Siesta. Also didn't realize that some of the rooms were not near the check-in and had to walk 100 meters (uphill and stairs) to a different location to access the rooms. Its tough for those that are handicap or cannot walk up stairs well.
- The bathroom key was missing, but it was not a big deal, we figured out the way of informing each other :D

The location is amazing right smack in the middle of the historic Stassi region of Matera and the rooms are built into the caves as a result. The breakfast is a large quantity of food that is left on the table and in the fridge. Bread, jams, cereal and cookies on the table. In the fridge, tomatoes, fruit, juice and milk.

One can feel the true vibes of Matera city at this property, you literally own a house as a real Materian! Spacious, wood furniture, a nice kitchen, a friendly host, you just need to pack and see this amazing place! There is no parking inside the old town, so plan to park outside. The property is in the heart of the old town. You will probably need one full day to explore it, but definitely stay in Matera.

The location is great. Right in the old town. There are restaurants arounds. The room was like a little house with its kitchen and living room. They brought breakfast stuff to our room every morning. The staff was so friendly and helpful.
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Very different and enjoyable town. Good restaurants!
There is no bell service to get suitcases up cobblestones 1/2 km to the rooms. We were lucky when we arrived because Pierluigi helped us. On departure, no help ... Only showers in rooms
The room was in a cave and it came equipped with all sorts of snacks, fruits, coffee, and other goodies. The staff was very kind and helpful. They carried our two big suitcases all the way to the entrance even though I said I could do it myself.
They didn't have accurate information about parking. They told us one of the recommended lots was 7 euros a day, when we arrived it ended up being 24 euros a day. They also weren't able to help us when we had to leave and catch a bus back to the car. There was an event and I guess streets were blocked off so the bus couldn't get to us. We ended walking a long way with our luggage because we didn't have any other option.
This is THE BEST accomodation where we've ever been! The kindness and attentiveness of the staff it exceeds every expectation, and fullfills every need! It is simply unbelievable! We felt here really served to the max and we were sad to leave!Super clean, super comfy and in one of the best locations in Matera! This is THE place to be in Matera! 5 stars service!A bigbig thank from us! We will return, 100%!
Prime,Prime location!! The staff wS so helpful and friendly. They had the refridge stocked daily and had breakfast every morning. Can’t say enough about our stay in Matera. Fabulous!!!!
For our short stay in Matera, Hotel San Giorgio was perfect, location is central to the old town, perfectly placed for seeing the sites of Matera, great friendly staff communication, there is no tourist parking in Matera old town, so we followed their guidance on parking, all very easy but definitely recommend the shuttle bus, our room accommodation was great, homely and comfortable, breakfast was included and all good.
Location; hotel staff's welcome; comfortable room
I was expecting a cave room. The photos were misleading or we were just allocated a normal room in historic building.
Staff were extremely responsive to our requests. Breakfast was provided in the room with yogurts, fruit drinks, water and a large bowl of different fruits kept in the refrigerator, as well as pre-package dry bread/toast all of which were replenished the next day.
Great experience with a well equipped and comfortable room cave.Well located and contributed to overall experience.
Can be hard to locate.Watch bringing too much luggage.
The location of the hotel was perfect to do your sightseeing. 3 very good restaurants were a stones throw away and all were highly recommended by the hotel. We were aware that you cannot park in the old town, but used one of the parking garage services that they recommended and it was no issues. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Our room was very clean and the bathroom and shower were also very good. We just wished now that we actually would have stayed 2 nights to really enjoy Matera.
None at all
Nice location, close to many restaurants and attractions reachable by foot. The room was very spacious and clean , nicely decorated. We had water , juice, and breakfast food of all kinds. We had a very good time. Staff was very helpful.
In the city center. More than friendly staff. Helpfull and full of advice. Great way of serving breakfast.
Rooms where spacious and unique. Plenty of items to choose from for breakfast, right in your room!Location was great to enjoy either Sassi region.
Shower was on the small size
Spacious, tidy and clean. Liked the outdoor terrace area for drinks. Nice to have some bread/crackers snacks etc. on our arrival.
Our adult son slept on a single sofa bed in the lounge which wasn't so comfortable for him
Room is really nice. Terrace super nice. Breakfast is brought to room previous day . Good sized refidgerator. Good sized room and bathroom. Staff was helpful
The location was bit difficult to reach. Travel light if you can.
