Le Malve Cave Retreat

This place was really cool! It was so clean and so comfortable. Unfortunately, we were only there one night. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Room we received was extremely basic. After seeing all the pictures online, we had high expectations. So disappointed. Room was very standard. Nothing like all other rooms. Price was extremely high for what we got. We had 2 small suitcases. One we placed in top of set of drawers. The 2nd small suitcase we ended up putting over the fridge in the room. They could have supplied us with a luggage rack. Bathroom is 2 steps up/down. Not so safe, especially in the dark.

The location was central to restaurants and easy to view the sights of Matera.The staff were very helpful in securing dinner reservations and a city walking tour.Breakfast was very good.

If I had to be picky, not much room for luggage.

We loved that both our rooms had a balcony with amazing views of the city! They were very spacious and comfortable, and the hotel staff adapted to our needs exceptionally. The breakfast was very complete, and the space it was held at was beautiful! It is located right in the middle of the town!

The location was perfect and the staff was sort friendly and easy to contact. The staff gave excellent recommendations for an itinerary that we could manage in 1 day.

Nothing, the only thing is that there are stairs that are slippery by the entrance, you just need to be very careful walking so as not to fall

Loved the location and the sassi's feeling of the retreat. Roberta was very gracious and kind, making us feel very welcome. I would absolutely go back if I go back to Matera. A word to the wise....That the navetta or pre order the transportation from/to your parking garage. You and your legs will thank me later.

What a gorgeous hotel built into the historic caves. The rooms are exquisite, with little touches like a one-way glass in the bathrooms that amazed me. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the historic district with views across the city. Our host was so wonderful, helping us with our itinerary, recommending bars and restaurants and just being a super nice human being, can’t remind this wonderful hotel enough.

The property is in a fabulous location. Out of the way of the major plazas and traffic, but still very close to fabulous restaurants and sights! The property is clean and comfortable.The highlight of the property is definitely the staff. They are fabulous! Everyone went above and beyond for me, even though I only had a short stay. Top tier service!!

Absolutely beautiful comfortable interior design in rooms and lobby/dining area…the staff (David & Giancito) provided exceptional guidance and assistance… personable professional and made us feel welcome like family. We will definitely return.

Nothing ~ it was perfect

Location is perfect! Easy to start walking to the various sites. The room was tiny, but we had a lovely balcony, which extended our seating area. The host was amazing and even helped us with our existing dinner reservation by calling ahead to make sure we were treated extra-special.

Breakfast was our least favorite of the various places we stayed on our trip. It was mostly sweets.

Secluded yet central. Steps from great views, best cafes, and superb attractions.

Shower was a bit short for me.

Accommodations were wonderful. It was a beautiful quaint experience. In a cave air conditioned clean. John Vito and the staff were so very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was abundant and delicious. We highly recommend Le Malve Cave Retreat and will stay there again.

Little bathroom

The room was very clean, daily service. Breakfast was good. Staff extremely friendly and very helpful, always available. Gave great restaurant recommendations.

Only down side was our room is situated very close to the road, so garbage pick noise early in the morning was not so pleasant.

Amazing cave suite room, staff was extremely nice and helpful before and during our stay, the hotel is well located, but Matera is so big and beautiful that we have to walk around the town to see all the interests places, which we expected. Amazing view of the town just steps away from room. Breakfast was included and could be a little big more variety but was good. Definitely a place that we will recommend. We were able to leave our bags after check out with no limitations to finish visiting the town.

Just that we have to park away form the hotel and carry our bags down hill, but is expected in this type of Unesco town. A back pack will be a better option but is not the Hotel fault. Everything was extremely nice and beautiful.

Super friendly staff offering tips for sightseeing the town and the bigger area. Good breakfast. Central location. Original room design in a rock.

Ventilation was challenging due to the unusual nature of the room.
