    • More teabags in the room?! Especially English breakfast! We could have asked but we forgot. That's all.

The property is stunning, making the most of an elegant old palace with beautiful characterful reception rooms, restaurant and bar. The character of the building has been kept with sensitively added modern facilities and a lovely spa with decent sized pools. We received a warm, friendly welcome, smooth check in and nothing was too much trouble. extra touches added to the superb experience. It is located right on the banks of the river Douro with great views.

More teabags in the room?! Especially English breakfast! We could have asked but we forgot. That's all.

    The breakfast was superb!

Its a big space and mostly empty, so it took a minute to figure out how to change elevators to get to my room, not very straight forward, but we eventually managed it. Otherwise, great place

Nice place staff is apologetic and nice but inefficient .

The food is dreadful. No lemons or limes for anything all of Saturday. Breakfast service awful. Waffle was hard and inedible and took 20 min to come. No brown sugar only white. Burgers at pool took 40 minutes and order wrong.

The Palace is lovely, as are the gardens, with amazing river views. We enjoyed the excellent breakfast as well as a quick lunch at the bar. Most rooms, however, are in another building (next to the palace). The bed was very good and we also appreciated the choice of pillows and the tea/coffee in the room.

The building where rooms are located is somewhat gloomy (very dimly lit at all hours) and our room, which was a junior suite, was very large and sparsely decorated, therefore it didn't feel cozy. Also, the view was not good. For the price, we expected it to be nicer. The location of the palace itself is beautiful, but if you are coming to visit Porto proper, do note that it is rather far from the center, in a semi-industrial area.

We had a beautiful room facing the water. We liked the breakfast, the view from the pool and the garden and last but not least we appreciated the very good service upon check-in.

Only that it is quite far from the center where the tourist attractions are.

A spectacularly beautiful hotel. Room was beautiful. Spa services excellent. Felipe LMT was amazing.

Service at bars and restaurants was not great. They served food at pool and never came to collect it. Due to service charges being applied to each check the staff was not as responsive as you would expect. For us the high level of children screaming and running around pool unsupervised was a bit much.

Spectacular setting. Beautiful rooms. Spa service fantastic. Felipe LMT was amazing. The manager was quick to handle service issues.

Service at bars and restaurants was sub par. At pool area they never came to clean up after delivering food. Clearly not working for tips causes poor service.

Everything in general was great!! Staff were great and so was breakfast!

A bit far from city center.

Scenic riverfront location. Beautiful buildings, spa services, gorgeous infinity pool, incredible architecture and historic rooms, excellent breakfast.

Carpets were old and worn. Shower hot water was inconsistent and was not there at all one morning. Arrived just after a small group (6). Waited a while for group and their excessive luggage to clear out of the entrance so I could get through to see if there was anyone who could tell me where to park or help unload my bags. But there was no valet or doorman or available staff around. I finally parked the car on my own and hauled my bags across into the lobby. When I arrived at the desk there was no indicator of helpfulness, and the greeting was not welcoming. (As far as I could tell there was no valet or doorman helping the group either). This was all a very poor first impression A hotel of this caliber should have a doorman and/or valet available, and be better trained in professionalism greetings. To be fair, the rest of the staff (bars, restaurants, maid services) were polite, professional and friendly.

    The quality of the bed

Not sure how this got to be a 5* property. Asking for ANYTHING (to be delivered to the room, at the restaurant, etc) takes a very long time, if it gets delivered at all. The air conditioner barely works in the May weather - not sure how people survive in the true summer months when it’s very very hot outside. The water pressure in the shower is terrible. The rooms are very dark. The spa is weak. The breakfast and restaurant have lackluster and bland foods. The location is further away from town. Other than having the word palace in its name, I don’t see any reason to stay here

The staff were amazing, and it was a pleasure to stay in this historic beautiful palace. However given the weather turning on us, we were especially looking forward to the spa facility, sadly the Hammam steam room was not functioning properly and each time we reported the issue we were told it was fixed… it was not:(

The room was clean and the staff was very helpful. Breakfast buffet was nice

Location was a bit far but all in uber distance so can’t complain much

Historical building, super romantic and super clean/quiet room with great view of the Douro river, countless historic paintings and sculptures, relaxing indoor pool with sauna, great breakfast with warm vegs, if you have no experiences of Pousada this is a nice first step

Away from city center, 15 minutes by taxi, but this is a necessary cost of historic buildings

    9JulianaPosted on: 3-24-2025

What I like the most was having a hotel with SPA, and indoor swimming pool while in the center of a city.

Having to order coffee during the breakfast, because I would like to do my own mix, ratio of milk vs. coffee

    9SusanPosted on: 3-15-2025

Fantastic historical building in a great location. The food and service were both excellent.

    9KerriPosted on: 3-12-2025

It’s beautiful and we find the rooms restful and very well appointed. We had a stunning view on this stay! While you are a bit of a distance from the center it is quiet and the parking has been a real bonus for us. Ubers were cheap and readily available.
