- Peaceful and quiet
- From the moment we arrived at Châteaux de Fonscolombe, we were completely enchanted. The property itself is a dream – elegant, serene, and set amidst the most beautiful grounds that make you feel as though you’ve stepped into another world. Every corner of the estate reflects both charm and refinement, and it’s truly a delight just to stroll through the gardens and soak in the atmosphere. What truly sets this place apart, however, is the staff. Without exception, they were polite, professional, attentive, and wonderfully efficient – nothing was ever too much trouble. You really feel cared for here in a way that is both warm and genuine. A special mention must go to Laetitia at the front desk, whose warmth and gracious professionalism made us feel instantly at home. She went above and beyond to ensure our stay was seamless.Equally, the gentleman working in the bistro during the evenings deserves the highest praise. His attentiveness, kindness, and effortless way of anticipating what guests might need made dining a real pleasure. He, along with several other staff members – from housekeeping to the restaurant team – ensured that every interaction was a positive one.The combination of this stunning setting with such exceptional service makes Châteaux de Fonscolombe a true gem. It is not just a beautiful hotel, but a place where hospitality is elevated into an art form. We left feeling thoroughly cared for and already planning our return.
- The Chateau is absolutely beautiful, peaceful and driving distance to lots of medieval cities and wineries. It has its own winery and the wine is top class. The staff is extremely polite and accomodating. It was an unforgetable experience. We also had a provencal pic nic by the pool, a MUST!!!
Cons -
- The menu at l’Orangerie was not so extensiveIssue with the pool for two days
- Nothing it is perfect.
- Restaurant service was a joke for a 5 star place, examples include:- we ordered drinks and some water on our first night’s dinner, water never arrived but I’m sure we were charged- we tried to order coffees in the morning but apparently it’s not on the room service menu and nothing’s open before 7:30am. Would recommend opening for breakfast sooner or having the opportunity to order at least a coffee before 7:30am. No fridge in the room so can’t even keep milk in there to make the coffees yourself - we ordered coffees and some pastries, the pastries never arrived. We were charged for it but once we highlighted it, they removed the charge- service was very slow too, after having our mains we waited well over what seemed 20 minutes with no service and no dessert menu. We eventually headed inside to pay at the till- room wasn’t made it up till around 7pm on the 2nd day, we forgot to put the sign out initially so partly our fault but you’d think they’d check the room as we were out all day- the pool wasn’t anything special and very warm, felt like tepid water. We were told it was open 24hrs but it was a mission trying to open the gates in the dark and working out where the towels were Overall it was below expectations and there are better chateau’s or chalets out there

Nothing it is perfect.
Property itself is a wonderful chateau, very picturesque with lots of greenery and beautiful grounds to walk around. Initial hosts were very welcoming, giving a tour and sharing a bit of its history so expectations were high. The Birmingham born bar man Thomas made some excellent cocktails, impeccable service and was a real highlight of our stay.Their burgers are excellent and unlike anything else I’ve tried, highly recommend.Pétanque in the woods, ponies and donkeys on the grounds made it an enjoyable start to the morning The lady by the spa was super helpful, whether it was booking taxis, making reservations or providing tips on places to go and things to do, she was top class!

Staff were lovely, felt relaxed as soon as we arrived! Location was amazing. Reception team helped organise so much for us and we were able to stay way past our check out which was great. Sommelier was lovely and knowledgable!
WiFi was poor
Beautiful castle, the grounds, the swimming pool
The staff that were there were doing their best, and we’re grateful to them, but my feeling is they need more staff. 1 person working the reception cannot support the check-ins, check-outs and tours of the property, especially during the busy Easter weekend.
Historic lovely antiques
Spa wasn’t always open Nothing to do
Beautiful property and surroundings. The room was just right . Very welcoming stuff, especially at the reception .
Restaurant service in general could have been better for a place like this .
Very calm place close to aix en province and major sightseeing locations. Clean and nice rooms. Car parking is available.
Sparkling clean. Very good facilities for kids. Family friendly. Breakfast was amazing. All the ingredients were super fresh and good quality. Staff is very helpful.
The property was absolutely incredible and immaculately kept, and the design and decor of the lobby, rooms, etc felt like something out of a movie. The breakfast was delicious and so relaxing out on the concourse, the nature trail and adjacent vineyard were majestic, and the pool and grounds gardens were perfectly maintained. We had such a fantastic stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and isolated getaway!
While privacy and seclusion made it very special, it was a bit remote from offsite activities, including restaurants for dinner. We did not have a car and tried to rely on Ubers and taxis, which was a bit challenging. Would recommend planning for a rental car to alleviate this issue; otherwise, everything was amazing.
The Château was beautiful. It was a great experience. The person who welcomed us when we arrived was simply incredible. Very professional, he came to greet us outside and showed us our rooms. This made our stay very special and perfect!
All-round lovely hotel with good staff, great rooms and great food.
Simply exquisite. Our entire stay was marked by the kindest, most attentive staff who made us feel so special and taken care of while celebrating our one year wedding anniversary. The hotel, rooms, dining, pool and grounds are all so beautiful and well-kept. Fantastic restaurant and food. Sleep was incredibly comfortable and peaceful too!
Only complaint is that there was no overhead shower head in our room. This is because of the effort (and possibly requirement) to preserve the lovely original build and heritage of the property, which we so appreciate, but it did make for some awkward showers :)
The chateau is beautiful and breakfast was great
The room made a loud noise every 10 minutes from the mini fridge which constantly interrupted our sleep. The shower didn’t drain and completely flooded our bathroom! There were no lights in the hallway and needed our phone light to open the room door because it was so dark. The dinner at L’Orangerie was bad! We did not like the food at all and could hardly eat it! What a disappointment after reading the food reviews of this restaurant! It was shockingly bad. Also the grounds need a lot of work! Poorly maintained grounds. The hotel receptionist when we checked in was not very accommodating when we told her about the shower problem however the hotel reception staff at check out were very helpful, a big difference in staff attitude!
Lovely quiet hotel with large grounds and helpful staff.
The traditional bedroom, bathroom and toilet were very small for the cost and we would definitely want to get a larger room on any future stay.
Fantastic stay at Château de Fonscolombe and the perfect getaway for relaxation, fantastic food and lovely hotel staff! If you want to get away from it all, this is the place!
If you don't have a car, you have to rely on cabs which can be quite pricey
Super relaxed and quiet hotel with lovely personalised service.Large grounds to explore.Close to Chateau La Coste.
Rooms are a bit on the small size for the price point - with the bed being to only place to chill in the room.A bit remote from any other facilities.
Beautiful building that has been tastefully renovated. The staff were polite and helpful and generally friendly
There are insufficient staff to power a hotel of this magnitude, 5* Relais and chateaux partners I expect better. Waiting an hour for breakfast coffee, scraps of the buffet left half an hour before closing, a pool with an attendant that’s more interested in his iPhone than clearing up beds, providing fresh towels and selling food and drink to hungry thirst customers. Furthermore, it seems in the Orangerie which is my only point of reference, ithere lacks any leadership. There were children running riot at 930pm, circling my table and almost knocking staff down, the maitre de should have politely asked the parents to intervene. As it was, my rather average 200€ dinner left me irritated at best. Spend a little more and stay in many of the nearby R&C properties nearby where you won’t be left wanting.
Excelent breakfast, lunch and dinner.Amazing room, personal and hotel garden.
