Boutique Hôtel d'Orbigny Chatelaillon - La Rochelle

It’s a cute little place, right in the heart of a little beach community. The staff are lovely and the breakfast was good.

It is listed as wheelchair accessible, and it is to a large extent. But our room was awkward to get into and very small (had to put the wheelchair in the bathroom). The shower was fantastic with a wall that moved like a door and a handheld shower head, but there was no shower chair.

Close to the town & beach but less busy

The welcome from the owners. Everyone were friendly and very helpful. The room was big, light, airy and clean. It had a lovely view of the terrace and swimming pool. I used the pool a few times. It was clean and the water temperature was inviting. I enjoyed perusing the library. I used the bar facility for teas and drinks by the pool. I greatly recommend a stay at this hotel, it is very close to the sea, 3 minutes walk to the beach, 5 minutes walk to restaurants and bars. A great location in a great sea side resort.

There were nothing I did not like.

The location to the beach, restaurants, bars and the train station. The hotel was very clean, the staff extremely helpful, room very comfortable and pool was a lovely temperature to relax around.

The standard rooms are quite small and ours smelled funny on arrival but it was changed very efficiently for one that didn’t smell.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the location of the hotel, the cleanliness of the hotel, the continental breakfast choice.

The air-con was switched off because the weather was apparently not warm enough to justify this. I think that should be the customers decision if air-con is listed in the facilities, especially when it’s mid summer. There was a lack of shelf space for clothes so most clothing had to remain in suitcases. The bar and pool closed very early in the evening, and the pool did not open until at least 9am in the morning.

A lovely hotel in a charming seaside town. Hotel was very helpful when our flight was delayed. Everything was very clean. Great breakfast. Pool was clean, although the sunbed space is limited, even in the height of summer we had no problem getting one as people come and go throughout the day. If you are looking for a coastal escape or a base to explore La Rochelle this place is ideal, trains to central La Rochelle take just 10 minutes and the station is only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Highly recommended

Little storage space in the room.

Great location for getting around and about and literally a 2 minute walk to the beach and promenade. Lovely bathroom in the room and a good size always great hot water for the shower, staff friendly and helpful nothing seemed too much trouble, easy access in and out of the hotel with the access code provided.

Very small compact room, don’t pack too much, one thing I would say is check with the hotel reference parking it stated on their own brochure parking 8 euros per night or a week deal for 40 weeks parked for a week and were charged 10 euro per night and not offered a week deal, maybe the brochure is out of date but then hotel should consider updating.

The whole stay was really enjoyable. We were a group of 5 couples and stayed at Hôtel d'Orbigny for a week. The family made us feel right at home and were very helpful. The rooms were comfortable and well maintained, our room looked out onto the pool. Ensuite bathroom, with walk-in shower, large screen TV, free wi-fi and tea/coffee making facilities. The pool was quiet and a lovely place to relax and cool down. Breakfast was very good, and plenty of variety, with fresh continental produce every morning. The hotel location was excellent, just a street away from the beach, a short walk to coffee shops, bars and restaurants, with the train station a short walk to the rear. What made the stay was the family atmosphere and their friendliness. I would recommend this hotel 100%.

A nicely modernised hotel with a nice pool. Well located. Very clean and comfortable with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.

A lift would have been useful but that is clearly impractical given the configuration of the building. In practice, this was not a problem as the staff were very happy to help carry luggage to the upper floors.

What a great location!! We stayed there on our way back to Paris to fly home. However, in the future this could be our vacation detination. Great access to a beautiful beach and a short drive to La Rochelle. La Rochelle was also unexpected great find.

Extremely warm welcome when we arrived, the hotel is spotlessly clean, breakfast was plentiful even though we only had once during our stay only reason being I’m not usually a breakfast person.

The only negative for me was the mattress protector, I got rather hot (but then again I’m a women of a certain age)

The very warm welcome from the owners and all the staff. The copious breakfast with homemade products which were personally introduced. The choice of indoors or two terraces to use at breakfast time or for drinks from the bar. The attention to detail and help with visiting nearby tourist sites. The individual and positive response to a request concerning the booking before our arrival.

Location. Staff were helpful friendly and spoke good English. Breakfast was home cooked fare and plenty of it.

Not wishing to detract from the excellent service we got from the management and staff, everything closed at 8pm. Unable to get any form of drink. We didn’t appreciate that a “Standard Room” would not have a kettle etc considering the room rate. Coffee tea making facilities in the lounge available to guest in “Standard Room” would have been helpful.

The staff were very helpful, the room was immaculate and nicely laid out, the breakfast was of a good quality and was replenished frequently, unfortunately, we did not have time to use the pool but the temperature was good and it looked very inviting, will use when we return in the future.

For the high standard of the hotel, we were a little disappointed that some of the breakfast crockery was cracked, chipped or damaged, we felt that this slightly reduced the very high standards that were apparent elsewhere in the hotel, it would not deter us from returning for a future stay.

The room was compact but very well organised. The staff were excellent. Breakfast was wonderful..The situation was good and parking was simple outside the hotel
