Beautiful location, friendly staff, ambiance
Creaky and uncomfortable bed, usual breakfast, owner was unfriendly to guests and staff!
The location and history was excellent. The staff on arrival were great and helpful. We had room 103 with spa bath.Good breakfast with great service.Parking good.Had a 6 night stay.
Right, l reported to the evening reception gentleman (tall large chap) that the spa wasn’t working. Later the next evening I asked him what was happening. His reply was that the maintenance man had a look and it needed a part . What he didn’t realise I had marked up in pencil lines over the control console and the main power switch by the door. The same lines were present therefore nothing had been checked ( I am an engineer). Therefore being told an untrue response isn’t good and resulting loss of face .The pool was out of season so fair enough, however nowhere to sit comfortably in a relaxed environment to read and have a drink or coffee/ tea which is unacceptable given the high rating. In short your room is the only place which on a rainy day would certainly be bored. No in room tea/coffee making facilities very poor.Shame we won’t stay here again and recommend the Due Mare which although less attractive has much better facilities including a spa and indoor swimming pool plus relaxing library and sitting room and cosy bar.So simply it was bed and breakfast nothing more.
Beautiful setting on the hill with lovely views and gardens. Restaurant very good, great service and good breakfast.
Arrival terrible, person at reception couldn’t be bothered very unwelcoming. Limited furniture in the room and next to no toiletries. Hairdryer just one of those white boxes on wall which is useless.
The location, the view was quite something.
The male staff - or some of them - at the reception - didn’t even bother telling me the lift to the harbour wasn’t working when I had a heavy bag. No free water - which is strange, every other hotel I stayed in Italy did!
A very special place
Everything was delightful and we had a wonderful week. The view from our room over the park towards the sea and Monte Portofino was exceptionally beautiful and restful, and the furniture and polished floors were elegant. The situation of the whole hotel is magical and its history fascinating. The current proprietor is clearly passionate about it and attentive to the maintenance of high standards . A lot of trouble is taken and the staff are extremely dedicated and charming - fromPietro the omniscient and brilliant barman from whom we learned so much about wine and with whom it was a pleasure and a privilege to talk, to Simone and Daniele th e sommeliers, to the calm, professional and thoughtful young women who presided over breakfast (and one tireless young man who looked after us evening and morning ), to the lovely young woman serving at dinner whose boyfriend in the kitchen made an anniversary greeting for us, to signora Franca who thought of putting flowers in our room, to the man who gave us a lift to and from the station, to all those we didn’t see (especially the excellent chef and team) but who made our stay memorable. Thank you to everyone! The pool was great and again had very thoughtful and helpful staff. What a treat!
Beautiful property and very welcoming staff.
There was no pool. The pool was a “natural” pool and you have to pay extra to use it. The color of the water was not what i expected … due to fhe reflection of the rocks, a dark blue/gray, not the beautiful turquoise color Portofino is famous for.
Good place in Sestri , but there are some better.
We ask facilits to old people - they dont have any , everything is difficult. When I asked about this , they could say the true and we could looking for another hotel
Location
Safe didn’t work, bathroom sink plug wasn’t working to start but maintenance were very quick to fix
Breakfast was excellent. Setting was beautiful.
Staff was a bit chilly.
The bar. The bar was excellent. Custom cocktails, great advice, and friendly service. And not badly priced for the experience. The bartender is a true asset to the hotel. The setting is incredible. Few hotels can bost anything like the setting. Breakfast is good if not especially varied. The decor is fitting, and all of the staff were friendly and welcoming, as well as being efficient. Loads of storage in the room. Room was also very large. The restaurant had a great menu and the wine pairings were excellent.
The room decor is a bit random and all over the place. The fact that the lift directly down to the bathing facilities was out of order was a bit of a shame, as was the rockfall which had cut off our favourite place to sunbathe. The latter, of course, is no fault of the hotel. The shower could be much better in terms of both pressure and temperature.
The views, the garden, free parking and a fantastic bartender at the hotel bar.
Uncomfortable, creaky beds. No amenities in the rooms - no coffee or tea, no proper hairdryer. No gym/fitness centre. Unable to order food outside of restaurant hours. Charged an extra €30 per person per day to use the « pool » which was a small natural rock pool. Paying inflated prices for something that is not 4 star quality. The hotel is clearly relying on pretty views and its history as a castle to detract attention from the fact it is lacking basic amenities and is charging guests exorbitant amounts to use the few it has.
Perfect hotel in old castle. Well maintaned, staff very polite atmosphere like in castle should be. Dinner was phantastic.
Everything. The location and the view are fantastic. The facilities and the mention are great. The breakfast was very good and the staff were excellent. it was exceptional.
The views are spectacular. The service was great. Breakfast is exceptional with so many choices, At dinner I received my first amuse bouche. The star for us was the bar tender Pietro. He was engaging and knowledgeable. He answered questions from sightseeing to history. He also made an amazing Hugo spritz. The stunning view from the outside dining is a must experience. There is a park and trail behind the hotel. The trail leads to an amazing overvuewof the sea and the sea pool. All this in a romantic, elegant, old world setting.
This hotel is just simply beautiful. What a wonderful place. Staff were nice. Great location with an elevator to get from the hotel to the Main Street (avoids the hill walk). Stunning views from all over. Nice restaurant on site for great food and drinks. Very enthusiastic bar man. Clean and tidy rooms. Overall a wonderful stay. Next time we will be staying longer
amzing outdoor seating for breakfast with a med view.
Food was middle of the road.
Very nice hotel. I didn't realize it was a castle! The elevator to the tunnel is super fun! Location and views - both excellent!
Room decor matched that of a castle. Maybe update that, but overall it was a very nice hotel.
