About
At Port-en-Bessin, located between the D-day landing beaches and the town of Bayeux in the heart of historic Normandy, stands the charming 18th century Chateau La Chenevière. The chateau delivers the cozy charm and mannerisms of an old English manor decorated with genuine period furniture and contemporary accessories and fabrics. It also features a plush dining room, overlooking an English-style park, where you can experience the distinctive flavors of Normandy and select from an extensive wine list.

Pros +
- fresh and delicious, little overpriced for the selection offered.
- Highly recommend locale. Staff was very friendly, helpful and bilingual.
- very beautiful place! magnificent garden, amazing botanical collection. it could be a pearl of Normandy: luxurious place, architecture, cleverly thought out interior. I would especially like to mention the wonderful bistro (near the pool): local cuisine, cocktail menu, bistro staff - wonderful, well done. Also special thanks to the cleaning service and the staff who showed the room - they did everything very helpfully. thank you very much.
Cons -
- gym didn't open until 8am - makes it impossible to use with touring etc. Pool was closed as well.
- 1. disgusting sports room: old equipment, not adequately connected, stuffy even with open windows and doors. dilapidated small gym without dumbbells and barbells... old cardio machines that don't work adequately. but the most offensive thing is not that they are old... the problem is in the attitude - there is no concept, the employees have no desire to make this room suitable for sports. for a 5 star luxury hotel - this is not at all the level;2. the reception staff is not particularly involved in greeting... we told them in advance that we were coming from far away and it was my wife's birthday (zero); they won't help you with your suitcase, but they will let you park your car for a minute at the entrance... because there are small stones nearby (it's beautiful and convenient, but it would be desirable to have help from the hotel when checking in if you have a full size suitcase );.3. I suppose that a client should not ask for help with a bag, it is nonsense... just like offering tea or water after a long journey is not just an adequate warm greeting, but an industry standard for hotels that see themselves as luxury.4. we have been living in France for more than two years, we have a talent passport - this is a residence permit for highly qualified specialists (PhD, innovative entrepreneur), but our level of French is not very high yet ... we travel a lot around Europe and France, and of course we have encountered French snobbery in service and we have been warned many times that this is the norm ... I have stayed in many 5 stars in Paris and other European cities, and I can say from experience that snobbery is not an industrial standard ... however, in this hotel it was observed in a small form ..In the morning we walked through the beautiful garden - this is a magnificent creation of botanists and gardeners who very carefully and cleverly organized the garden. However, on all the lounge chairs there was a row of bird shit, on each one! ...

I liked everything, wonderful caring staff, super delicious food, beautiful place, classic French architecture, comfortable room and spacious bathroom. Excellent, well done!
Fantastic ambiance, great location and the kindest staff

Everything! Staff very friendly & helpful. The room was delightful. Dinner excellent and breakfast very good. The grounds are well kept & beautiful.
Nothing not to like - it was all very good.
Perfection …we were warmly welcomed at check-in by Justine. My daughters and I toured Normandy during the day and were so happy to check into this gorgeous hotel. We were given adjoining rooms— beautifully decorated, and ever so comfortable. We dined in the restaurant- Thiebault, who served us, was terrific and took note of my daughter’s food allergy. We enjoyed a divine meal before tucking in. Our only regret was not staying longer!
Beatrice was absolutely amazing, all the staff were absolutely wonderful. The food was out of this world!!!
The shower head didn't work and on day 2 we only had tepid water. Room had 2 beds joined together which wasn't ideal for a deluxe double but absolutely wonderful none the less
Stylish, chique and spotlessly clean. Food was amazing. Beatrice was a brilliant hostess.
The property was quintessentially France. Elegant, genteel and a bit modern, hip, quirky. (The four bunny statue in reception?)
Without renting a car difficult to get around.
We were visiting the Normandy Beaches and chose the property because of its close proximity to Omaha Beach. When we arrived we were cheerfully greeted and provided our room key. We were meeting friends for dinner at the Botaniste, restaurant on site. Everything was spectacular. The dinner was 5, no 6 stars gourmet! The grounds were well manicured and maintained.
Nothing. We would stay again in a heartbeat.
The chateau and grounds are beautiful. The chateau is not huge so everything feels intimate there. Everything was well maintained and felt topnotch. The rooms exceeded our expectations. We were in Standard rooms and they were roomy and well appointed. The pool was pristine and very quiet (closed at 7 PM before dinner). Dinner at Le Petit Jardin restaurant was quite nice as well. Breakfast was pricey but a standout experience with beautiful views of the garden, lots of hot and cold options, and friendly staff. We were there for Normandy DDay historical tours and had no problem getting picked up at the chateau.
We were surprised but our dinner at Le Botaniste was an underwhelming experience. Very limited menu. The food was beautifully presented but we all agreed, tasted average. I found some of the waitstaff were not as friendly, warm, or helpful as our other meals (we were a bit rushed in ordering and then found when trying to get the check we caught some surly attitude). Also, it didn’t bother us too much, but the grounds and rooms can smell like a farm. Normandy is know for its horses, and it made the experience feel more authentic. But the smells definitely stand out throughout parts of the day.
My pocketbook with jewelry was stolen from our room while we were out touring D Day beaches. The safe was to small to store my bag, so I hid it behind some bed linen, only to find it missing when I returned. We had to file a report with the French police which took up a whole day. There still has not been a resolution as to how the hotel will compensate my loss. Needless to say our French holiday was ruined by this experience. I certainly did not expect this from a five star hotel. Their status should be removed.
clean, comfy, jetted tub, pool, restaurant on site, parking, friendly staff
room was small
A perfect hotel of a very high standard, a large room, a large shower, quality service, the restaurant in the hotel is perfect, a great dinner and a perfect breakfast, full value for the price
The room was really spacious and nice. Also the manager and most of the staff we spoke to we're super helpful and friendly. The hotel is lovely and a really special place to spend the weekend.
I called 2 days in advance to reserve a table for two at the restaurant in the hotel, the person who I spoke with confirmed a 8:30pm booking but when we arrived they said there was no booking and it wasn't their problem we should order some room service (which is very limited) - not only was it their fault they didn't offer any solution which was really disappointing, haven't experienced something like this at a 5* hotel before.
This is a lovely inn located in the northern Normandy countryside. Everyone at the Inn was Very Friendly and helpful. The bedding was very comfortable and easy to fall asleep in. The grounds are well maintained and worthy of the phrase "estate-like".
We liked everything. The price to stay here is Quite High, but we knew that when we booked. We were looking for a quiet beautiful place for our family of four to stay before life took us in separate directions. This Inn provided that to us and we paid the high price of accommodations because that is what we simply needed to do for this trip.
The nature around the property
BE AWARE if you don’t eat gourmet food!!!!The food menu in booth restaurants didn’t offer any food options for people that don’t like gourmet food or dishes. The day of our arrival after more than 24 hours traveling we want to eat at the property and just relax but the only restaurant that offered something not gourmet was a burger ? the restaurant was booked. I couldn’t believe a 5 star hotel no offering to the guest the options or more simple food menu like pasta in the worst case. I requested to have the burger since no more food options for us and restaurant was booked then they accepted my request and brought to us a burger but made us to move to another room like we are doing something wrong because we order a burger . An awful experience after paying $$$ for a 5 star hotel and the burger too was expensive no free
Gorgeous chateau and grounds. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great location to explore surrounding areas. Highly recommend and hope to come back one day.
A little noisy but thats to be expected in an old renovated chateau. Perhaps at the cost breakfast could have been included.
Bed was very comfortable. Quiet location and Nice viens over the gardens.
