About

Across from the beach, the Stay Rottnest has independent accommodations on beautiful Rottnest Island. The island features early colonial buildings, a historic lighthouse and several underground tunnels to explore. Accommodation options include independent villas, dormitory rooms and basic cabins. Featuring one of West Australia's most unique island getaways, the Stay Rottnest's check in office is just a 2-minute walk from the Rottnest Island Main Jetty, which provides ferry services to and from Fremantle and Perth. The ferry to the island takes approximately 30 minutes. Surrounded by crystal-clear blue waters and white sand beaches, Rottnest Island is 7 miles long, and 2.5 miles at its widest point. It is located 12 miles west of Perth.

    Pros +

    • Cheapest option on the island. Honest value for money.
    • It was clean, comfortable, and good value for the price. We could buy food to cook from the general store; all we needed after a day of cycling. Well done to for great facilities in such salty air!
    • I’ve stayed in the cabins many times and enjoy the rustic style and good value for money.

    Cons -

    • For the price, there is very little to complain about. My biggest complaint would be that the stove plates took a while to heat up, so nothing too serious.
    • Bunk beds not bolted down. The bunk bed fell over in the middle of the night
    • We go for 36 hours and half of the time is coming back to town to do either check in or check out. Is absolutely ridiculous because you do nothing there. Check out is to leave the key in a basket!! 100yo place that still operates same way. We use an app to validate your identity, still need to go there and do it, to only arrive to your room and have someone else sleeping in your bed with the beddings that you rent! Because you need to travel with your bedding LOL. Absolutely not worth the money to stay there.

We had the dorms. It was good.

Being awaken at 11pm by the police looking for someone ! At least it's safe ! Haha

Not much to be honest. Way over priced

Had to make own beds. $80 a night to sleep in a school grounds, awful beds, facilities were non existent, would not recommend

    7VeronikaPosted on: 11-15-2024

    Cool historical site

Really noisy and busy, people are walking put or room at 5am and because the bed are super old, iťs making lot of noise

    6CanatoPosted on: 11-15-2024

    The location is really good

The toilets weren't clean and had no toilet paper in the last day. The bunk beds make a lot of noise when you move, but it is worth the price for being the cheapest in the island :)

Good affordable choice at Rottness island to stay for one night. Basic hostel at cool historical location. I recommend renting a bike for easy way to get around. The hostel is 1,5km from the ferry.

    Good location, nice and clean.

I never recieved an email in advance with my room number, which caused a bit of an issue when trying to check my bag in with Rottnest Express. When I called to get the room number, the person I spoke over the phone to said the email was sent to me on 24 Oct, but it wasn't. The email I recieved on 24 Oct was a reply to a request for information that I sent via booking.com. This just held me up longer while trying to board the ferry. She eventually gave me the room number. Also, I didn't realise when I paid for baggage delivery that my baggage would be left out in the open, I assumed it would be delivered to my cabin like other accommodation would normally do. I think this needs to be made a bit clearer for guests before they pay for this service.

    Awful Hostel

Poor/no wifi, wrong address listed on booking.com and is a much further walk from the town centre, no pictures of the horrible bed situations, toilets stink, its make your own bed which for over $80 per person is ridiculous. I’ve stayed in over 50 hostels whilst backpacking and never seen a hostel as horrendous as this

    Nice placeGood kitchen and bathroom

It was freezing cold inside and not veey good without wifi when coming back from the Island. Would also be great if laundry and dryer was free

Great location to the beach and lighthouse. Quiet and relaxing stay.

the lighting in the cabin was very dusty and could be a warmer light. Cycling around the island there was no where to fill up our water bottle. A tag needs to be added to bikes with a reminder and QR code for refill locations.

    - very affordable and has most things you need - heating is good- Hot shower - Comfortable bed- Cooking utensil is functional - Have oven, microwave, stove, large fridge and electrical kettle. Can cook or heat up meals easily as food is expensive in this island

    - not easy to locate and it will be good if they stated at “Caroline Thomson cabin” so that I could use Google map to locate the cabin. The map that they provided does not mention all the road names or landmark to find the cabin. I was lost for 30minutes - Inner surface of electrical kettle looks brown and over-used. - No toiletries- no hair dryer when it is so cold- early check out at 9am- need request linens and towel at the reception which is 10min or more away. - recommend to cycle in

Great quiet location, beach close very short walk, bbq area close and clean great value for money

    4TanyaPosted on: 7-29-2024

    Interesting history

They told me I had to store my luggage in a fee based locker before I could check in as the hostel wasn’t ready - there was no one even there as I rented a bike and out to it to find out where it was. Then, my luggage got lost the day I was checking out and going to the ferry - they told me they never had luggage go missing - well, they have and did. The staff seemed lazy and not interested in doing anything more than absolutely necessary which, ingeneral, causes a lot problems.

Great location quite affordable and heals of beds if U had a bigger group ?

    All good

    1TravisPosted on: 5-28-2024

Place was available and listed cheaper than other places.Had a microwave and toaster oven and sink

Wanted to charge us lots of hidden fees, 33%-80%more than the listed price for bed sheets and pillow cases($43 for 2 sets, room had 5 beds so could have been $93 extra if it was full). Early arrival luggage hold was $12 per small locker, wouldn't fit one of our bags. The room was cold and damp. The lights in the bathroom constantly flickered when on.The floor was dirty so I didn't feel comfortable barefoot, and the bathroom floor was muddy once wet.If I didn't bring my own pillow and blanket and towels it would have been more expensive than the nice hotel. When I argued they said all the fees were in the email, but I booked through this app where those fees are conveniently absent.Horrible scam, worse than every place in the last two months in 4 other countries.

visiting the attractions all accessible by all day bus pass was excellent, snorkeling around the island was awesome. within walking distance of the main shops and transportation ie Bus. Ferry. Able to book for tours online and combined them with others. Loved the museum and of course don't forget the quokkas.

Not having enough money to access the bike hire, especially the electric ones. some tours were rushed due to larger groups being shown around, Not having enough time to see everything.
