Pros +
- Great location near historic sights. The room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant's food was good.
- Right inside the walls. Great location. Right next to church. Had great views and cozy rooms.
- Comfortable, well appointed room. Very good bed and pillows.
Cons -
- Parking wasn't great, but to be expected since there is little space for vehicles in the center of the city.
- Booking.com's listing incorrectly suggested room with balcony and "landmark view," neither of which proved true. Unlike the attractive hallways and entry area, our room, too, lacked the "historic" look portrayed in the Booking listing, and instead presented the institutional sterility of a Quality Inn. Staircase, no elevator, may present problems for elderly or luggage-bound visitors.
- Even though weather outside was very cold, the room was a bit hot to sleep. It was not really possible to adjust the heating. English can often be a bit of a challenge, just like in most of the services in the area.

Charming. Bed was very comfortable. room and bathroom large and clean. The staff is very friendly, helpful and patient.
Superb location. Great breakfast and the hotel restaurant also provides traditional local cousin in high quality for lunch or dinner. The staff is helpful and friendly.

Just inside the city walls, a charming place with a classical feeling. Breakfast was served in the central courtyard and was good.
Understandable that parking is restricted but an underground pay as you leave car park about 100m away.
Lovey hotel in all respecits, perfect location and ambiente of an ancient house, with many beautiful artifacts and kind staff. Would recommend it as a perfect boutique hotel.
Great location and they helped us access the car park which was difficult because of street closures for roadworks
We were the only guests so the atmosphere was lacking and there were no restaurant facilities
Great location in old town, comfy room and decent breakfast.
Parking was a nightmare. Make sure you have a reservation. Also staff did not speak English and were rude about helping us with parking. Thank goodness, a young employee agreed to go with my husband to try to park the car--an odyssey which lasted ONE HOUR. My husband was exhausted. We chose the hotel to be right in the middle of the old town and that aspect was wonderful, but getting settled was difficult.
The room was big/good size, enough room to put our clothes and other stuff, Perfect location, just few meters from the Cathedral and city walls.
I was expecting to have a kettle in the room.
Big rooms and located right in the old town near the Cathedral
Staff were exceptionally helpful and pleasant, location within the city wall also excellent.. On site parking good
Specific directions to hotel for parking not seen prior to arrival in Alvila as we were not on line - those directions advising use if Maps. We eventually found hotel on foot and then helped by staff to drive to park.
Lovely hotel in the historic center.
Parking is a bit difficult but it's more of a problem with the traffic routing and local regulations and not the fault of the hotel.
Inside the walls, so handy for main attractions. The restaurant outdoors was fantastic with attentive staff and great food.
Interesting and challenging drive to the hotel parking but once there you don't need to move the car.
This is an old hotel within the walls of the city. It provides a convenient walk to everywhere within the walls and just outside of them. I rented 2 rooms and both had balconies facing the busy street. We did not use the balconies because the weather was oppressively hot.
The drive in was tricky. They provided very good written directions and requested our plate number in order to avoid getting a ticket. Still, we were not prepared to drive through a construction zone on a very narrow street nor were we to drive through very tight turns. Breakfast was unsatisfying and consisted of meats, cheeses, coffee, tea, hard breads and unpeeled, uncut fruit (apples, oranges and kiwi). We canceled our reservations for breakfast after our first experience. We felt the same way about dinner in their restaurant and did not return after the first night.
We loved this place. We got parking. And the staff parked the car! I would never have found this. Labyrinthine. Best night sleep ever for a long time. Avila is beautiful.

Bad
The day we arrived, couldn’t check in because they had a problem with the water pipes, NO MESSAGE in advance, we knew that until we were at the front desk, they took us to another hotel, were we had a very different room that we have hired… no choice… if I had known what happened, I should cancel and look for another place to book a room… they wanted us to pay before we leave to the other place… impressive… we refused and paid at the other hotel which was of course, cheaper…
The location was great and the hotel was historic and authentic. The dining area was a former patio so they were rooms that looked down on it. Very quaint, very nice.
