About
Elegant and classical, this award-winning 5-star hotel is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Channel Islands, with a top restaurant, an excellent location and a relaxing spa. The Old Government House Hotel & Spa is just a 5-minute walk to the harbor. Dating back to 1858, the building was once the official residence of the island’s Governor. Today, the Old Government House still retains many beautiful original features and a timeless charm and elegance. The building has been lovingly restored and sympathetically refurbished, incorporating the modern facilities of a luxury hotel. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The Olive Grove, the deck and the outdoor heated pool offer wonderful views over the gardens and the harbor. The state-of-the-art Revolution Health Club is Guernsey's most exclusive private gym. The luxurious spa has 2 whirlpools, a sauna and a steam room offering top-of-the-range hydrotherapy for your whole body. The hotel has won awards for its cuisine and features 2 restaurants, the Curry Room at The Governor’s and the more informal OGH Brasserie.

Staff and location excellent! We don't usually stay at a 5-star hotel but when we looked for an affordable central hotel ideally with an outdoor pool for three nights the morning before our arrival they had a Classic Double Room available so we went for it. Staff went above and beyond. We arrived in the morning with the ferry and on arrival we received a welcome drink at the bar. Nice touch. We dropped off our luggage and came back in the afternoon for check-in. Breakfast was amazing. Coffee came in a big coffee pot which is always great as we like more than one mug. Plenty of choice: Continental breakfast with delicious bread, toast if you prefer or hot food options from the menu. We made use of the outdoor swimming pool a couple of times. We never dined at the hotel. We didn't manage to use the Jacuzzi. Also the last two days felt too warm for it. The whole stay was very enjoyable. A big shout-out to the staff!
Bath mixer tap was a bit tricky to use. We found it difficult to regulate the temperature of the water in the bathtub shower. It went from too hot or too cold so it took a bit until the temperature of the water felt ok to use. Apart from this the room was compact but very nice. We explored the island during the day.
Location, comfort, food and very attentive staff
We had one dinner which was unacceptably slow. Spoke to the managers, we’re recompensed and service was excellent thereafter
Prestigious property in central location Immaculate bedrooms
Rooms can be on the small side but everything is there and it is very well decorated. Good central location and friendly staff.
breakfast was good
room was small. old fashioned
its not a 5star hotel .no guest parking and no indoor swimming pool.no hot water when we had showers
The staff were superb including Kris, Roberto, the cooks, Nolan, Kingsley, Alessandro, Tendayi and Thasalina(??) and the lovely sri- lankan housekeeper, Sethandi (??). Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.
The staff- superb! Particular mention must go to the following staff- Kris/Chris ( Manager) at Front Office, Christina, Roberto, Alessandro,Thanusha, Tendayi, Pamela and the room was superbly cleaned by Sendith ( name spelt incorrectly- he is from Sri Lanka- very professional and so humble,). Nolan and Kingsley, the cooks were superb too. My family wishes to really thank the above staff who went the extra mile in different ways. All made a special effort for my 90yr old mum who had a traumatic journey over from the mainland with a 14 hr delay on Xmas Eve/ Christmas day. Thank you very much.
Nothing. Loved it all.
Friendliness, location, facilities, excellent food
The staff were so very attentive to our every needs, we used the Spa and the service was impeccable. We also utilised the Curry House and Afternoon tea, and I could not fault the quality of the experience.
Nothing. Definitely returning.
Great staff and comfort in excellent location
Not easy finding way to room!
Great ambience and location. The staff took it to the next level
Air conditioning poor
The hotel itself is beautifully restored, combining historical charm with modern amenities. My room was cosy and impeccably clean, offering lovely views over the rooftops of St. Peter Port and a little bit of the harbour. The comfortable bed ensured I had a restful night’s sleep. The service provided by the staff was friendly and attentive. Breakfast on-site was delicious. The location is perfect for exploring St Peter Port, with shops, cafes, and attractions just a short walk away.Overall, my stay at the Old Government Hotel was fantastic. I can’t wait to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a charming and comfortable place to stay in St Peter Port!
Everything was wonderful. Yet, I would like to propose elevating its status to a genuine 5-star experience. I think the hotel could benefit from adding a few extra touches of luxury, such as offering a complimentary glass of Champagne at breakfast. Injecting more vibrant into the reception area could significantly enhance the guest experience.
Amazing place to spend your holidays on Guernsey. An enchanting lush interior with extremely friendly staff. Equipped with a beautiful garden, you can enjoy your very tasty meals outside. The kitchen is very good and the cream tea was fantastic. Several options for drinks round up a day of excursions marvelously.
Charm, location, staff.
Nothing - all good.
Staff were lovely and very helpful. They are the reason I wouldn’t fault the hotel further. The breakfast was very comprehensive and a lot of choice.
The room was very small and not what we expected. The shower hose was stiff from limescale and black. I went to dry my hair and the hairdryer had no safety mesh on the back. My hair got sucked into it and I had to cut my hair to free it!! No real apology was given by the reception team. We were very disappointed as it was our honeymoon and it was meant to be a special stay for us! Maybe we should have complained?
Location was excellent, and as dog friendly hotels go this has been one of the best during our stay in Guernsey. We were really impressed that they provided a dog bed, bowl, and treats to welcome our dog. She was allowed to join us for breakfast, which was also really appreciated compared with other "dog friendly" places that actually limit where you can sit. The staff were really brilliant and welcoming, and made every effort to make our stay special. The spa facilities, at least according to my mum who spent a whole day in there, were great!
This is an older building and in some places does show it, a slight update in decor would benefit the property a great deal, particularly some of the worn through headboards on the beds, damaged external window shutters, etc. But overall the quality of the service still shone through.
Room and breakfast excelent.Did not use any facilities but staff ver helpful.
