Pros +
- Perfect lakeside location. Reception staff were helpful in giving information on locality and providing an electrical plug without any fuss. The public areas were a little old fashion and very much part of an obvious previous glory.
- Lake view and location
- location and the beautiful view from the balcony
Cons -
- Waiters at breakfast were surly or aloof or both. The breakfast was disappointing with canned fruit instead of fresh, very limited hot food and an extra charge of 5u for a fried egg and 7u for an individually cooked omlette. The rooms were getting tired and in need of renovation, particulary the bathroom which had a very old shower over the bath and a lower shower head directly below it which got in the way and clattered into the bath if gently nudged. Basically the hotel was an extremly poor relation of the Regina Palace next door.
- Decoration could be refreshed
- service minded and friendly staff

The location of hotel Astoria is perfect. It's a short walk into the local town for shops and restaurants and a great base to explore the area, which we did with a hire car.The views from the lake view rooms are wonderful. The room and bathroom size was average and the electric blinds really blocked out the light. There was a good selection of food at breakfast and the restaurant staff were particularly lovely.
We didn't sleep the first night as the bed was so firm, but when we mentioned it the next day they kindly added a mattress topper which really helped.Although breakfast was largely great, the scrambled eggs contained burnt bits every day. The views are great, however all lake view rooms, and it's the same for all hotels along that stretch, are north facing so you never get the sun. If you're wanting a sunny balcony you may need to compromise on the view. The shower head was too low and we had to crouch to wash our hair. You can hear other guests using the bathroom, the room above had a bath every day at 10pm and I could even hear the plug being pulled out. The rooms were very warm and on one occasion we decided to put the air con on before we went out to cool it for our return, but when we returned it had only been heating the room. We were told by reception that at this time of year the hotel turns the air conditioning off completely and you can't use it. So for our 2nd night we slept terribly again due to the room temperature. There is too much road noise to leave the door ajar (as suggested) and I was already sleeping with ear plugs. The following day we asked for a fan, which we were given, but it's not the same and we actually slept terribly for the whole of our stay and came home more exhausted. Prior to travelling I sent a message to say that we would be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, which was ignored, and we opened cards and gifts from family during our stay. We put the cards up in the room and it wasn't acknowledged in any way. I've stayed in other hotels for many special occasions and something is usually done by the hotel to make it extra special. It was disappointing as this was a special trip for us and the rating mainly reflects the severe lack of sleep.
Amazing views! And a balcony! Really great to be one of the old hotels on the lake, and right next to the ferries and a short walk into the town. Very useful to have our car on site too. Great breakfast with super wide choice. The choice of equipment in the gym was very limited and the hotel arranged for my son to use the gym in another hotel which was very helpful. Pool area very lovely and a decent size, could get busy at the end of the day but always chairs and sun loungers spare.
The gym was limited in terms of equipment; they kindly arranged for my son to use the gym in another hotel. The Astoria is a very large hotel and like many of these is being gradually renovated. Our room was a little dated in design (still beautiful!) and not large but that was fine and to be expected as we faced the lake with a balcony.
Good and comfortable hotel with parking and good breakfast
Service and conditions
Good room with great ocean view. Good pool. Great breakfast. Dining staff good.
Towel racks were not heated so towels were always wet during the day. Would get changed if we had the room serviced each day.
Beautiful location, clean, close to food, shops. Nice rooms, good breakfast
Morning breakfast wait staff not always friendly or attentive. No spa or exercise facilities.

First of all - the stuff!! Very friendly, helpfull always treat you with a smile. Location just at the lake promenade, in front of a very cute and quiet beach, about 9 minutes walking from the hystoric center of Stresa. The balcony with view to the lake is priceless.
Would like to have a cattle or coffee machine in the room.
Wonderful personnel, great breakfast, good location.
It’s one of those hotels where you do need the lake view room :(
