Excellent and plentiful breakfast, comfortable room and spacious stylish hotel well located in the interesting town of Chaves. The staff were also very friendly.

Some have commented that the hotel is a little tired, I think that is true but the finishes are of good quality and i felt that the building itself was well designed and laid out and did not suffer because of this and its worth also considering the price, which is far from expensive.

The hotel is walking distance from the center and has an out door parking lot. Our room was large (room 19) with two large windows and a king size bed. The property is historic and pretty. Th Heat if system in the room worked well.

The buffet breakfast was pretty basic. No fresh orange juice and only scrambled eggs. Mattress was thin and hard. Old fashioned tub. Limites toiletries. No coffee nor tea in room. Worstly, the gym was crappy. One tiny set of weights and all three bikes broken and cheap home usage eliptical trainer. Disappointing! Investments and up keep lacking. Also, after arriving late and tired, no help with bags and a worker telles at us for parking near the door for a moment to check in.

Amazing. Lots to explore.

The room (attic) was bit dated and stuffy but for the price not complaining. I did not find the sauna.

Breakfast and the pool were great. The room was nice but basic and a bit dark. The Hotel itself is quite beautiful with it's history.

Fabulous hotel, good rooms, quiet, enormous pool. Pool bar and loungers mean you can relax. There are pool towels available for a deposit. The breakfast was good and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Good location only a short walk to bars and restaurants.

The beautiful, historic buildings! The breakfast and dinner was delicious and attendants were nice. The pool area is very relaxing. The hotel area is quite and private, yet easy to walk to main attractions.

The only thing I would recommend is a less firm mattress.

It’s a treat to stay in a parador, and this one in particular. There are so many nooks to explore, including an old chapel right near the room. The breakfast space and buffet may be the best I’ve ever had.

The top floor has a gabled roof, so tall folks have to be aware not to bang their heads on the ceiling.

Pool is superb. Stayed here with a group of friends on a motorcycle tour. Fab hotel, no complaints at all.

Staff not especially welcoming or helpful. Breakfast was a very poor standard. We stayed in various different hoptels in Portugal on this trip and the breakfast here was by far the worst we experienced.

Forte de Sao Francisco Hotel is truly a hidden gem that we are incredibly grateful to have discovered. This place is absolutely breathtaking. Each staff member contributes to the exceptional experience, and the fabulous on-site restaurant takes it to the next level.We arrived by bicycle while cycling the N2, and we were pleased to find a secure indoor storage area for our bikes. The only downside was that we wished we had more time to fully enjoy this tranquil haven and savor additional meals. Don’t hesitate—book your stay, dine here, and thank me later!

Breakfast and historical building

Lots of maintenance issues: Bedroom had probably a flooding in the past that ruined the doors, several broken things in the bathroom, veeery old carpet in the bedroom, very noisy minibar

Great Historic building tastefully converted to a hotel with excellent atmosphere, facilities and staff.
