Pros +

  • Exceptional stay from the cozy cabin, stunning fjord views, incredible food, and more. Most of all, the folks at Holmen made me feel so welcomed, cared for, and included all the holiday celebrations. Truly a wonderful experience and hope to return again.
  • My room has a big window looking out to the water and the fjord, very enjoyable. I book dinner (which is a must), total enjoyment, like dining in any top Michelin restaurant in city center. The chefs are very good at what they do. The best breakfast, thank you Hotel Holmen.
  • Beautiful location close but far enough away from the busier Reine

Cons -

  • Everything exceeded my expectations. My only call out would be some accessibility challenges if I brought my old and broken family tree members. It's would be challenging for them to navigate around some of the property, but admittedly I'd wouldn't change a thing - love the rugged beauty and preserving some of the raw habitat the property is built up on.
  • it is lots of work to get here. Because it's Sept, I have to rent a car at Bodo and then take the 3 hrs ferry to reach here. Holmen is very close to the ferry terminal. The hotel owner told me that i can fly in next time, or pick up a rental car in the island.
  • Very difficult to manage getting luggage from parking to the rooms and as it’s a small property there is no one to help with the steep hill and rocky path

Beautiful location close but far enough away from the busier Reine

Very difficult to manage getting luggage from parking to the rooms and as it’s a small property there is no one to help with the steep hill and rocky path

The location is stunning and the staff is nice except the one who thought I was a trespasser when I asked for wifi password. Excellent breakfast.

The comfort of the room, it’s small and lack of amenities, low bed make it difficult to get up and lay down, small room, got the room on lower floor you could hear people upstairs walking, In room wifi signal is not accessible, the distance from parking to the hotel you have to walk down the steep slope, you need to pack your things into small bag, no sauna, so it’s too expensive for what it is.

Sleeping on the water with breathtaking view was amazing. Respect and support for local family run business.

The room was very small, almost no place for our luggage and climbing gear, cold and damp bathroom without proper airflow. The breakfast was local and unique, but no warm meals possible and we had to have the same cold breakfast with minimal changes for all our stays. Would be nice to have some options. Very big price, not worth the cost. Parking is far away, steep climb, have to carry luggage.

One of the best places I've been. So beautiful. What an amazing view from the room. The food was delicious. Michelin worthy. And the staff, well they made our stay even more pleasant. So friendly and caring. That definitly stands out. Thank you for the amazing days. And keep the excelent work.

- bed- shower

- no way to get food (or anything else for that matter) if you are hiking late - the staff is never at the reception - no way to cook your own food even though everything closes at like 20 (at 21 if you're lucky)- when I got at emergency by getting stuck in the mountains for the whole day, the owner helped me by giving a bag of hot dog buns and half a bag of potato fries. For a 1000 euro it's an underwhelming amount of support

This place is a new one. Unfortunately we didn’t use it at maximum as our arrival was very late. This should have been an experience. We intend to comeback to taste the dinner. Breakfast was kind of frugal but tasteful.

Everything was as should have been. So I can’t say nothing about what should be improved as our stay was just for a few hours.

The dedication to locally produced goods (including an exceptional breakfast) and environmental care meant that the surroundings were pristine and we saw a lot of beautiful local birds and one of the best views in Lofoten. The lady at reception was also very helpful for hiking and gave us some great options

I wouldn't recommend booking activities through the hotel. They were helpful but there was a slight booking surcharge which we only found out later Secondly, if you’re coming with heavy luggage, as we were after a long trip, it is very difficult to take it down from the slippery, sloping path to the rooms because it cannot be dragged.

Amazing restaurant and views; nice design; friendly staff

No plugs by the beds; would be nice to have a common area somewhere indoors to hang out

Staff were wonderful and friendly, daily breakfast was fantastic, excellent coffee, and the cocktail menu and dinner menu was also great. I loved the location of the hotel (luckily saw the Northern lights directly above!), it was proximate to great hikes, and I really enjoyed how focused the hotel was on engaging with local businesses and produce (like seeing staff coming back from picking berries in the morning). The room was cosy, neat and warm with a great view.

Could've had more communication about the cleaning schedule (it's not daily like you might expect), and it could've been really nice to have a hotel Sauna (some rooms had private Saunas).

Spectacular and quite location with great views, also from the roomStaff very friendlyBreakfast is fantastic

Small room with simple designGourmet-Menu is tasty but overpriced

10NelsonPosted on: 8-20-2023

Super friendly staff, great location on the sea and close to several great hikes. The restaurant is really special, the breakfast is better than any hotel we’ve been to in the nordics and you must do dinner.

The rooms are very nice but a little small if you have a lot of luggage.

Holmen is a remarkable place - design, luxury, authenticity, and incredible food in a spectacular and remote location. It's family-owned and run, and we really appreciated the warmth and generosity of the staff.

7ChiliPosted on: 7-12-2023

Its a well looking accommodation but way overpriced for what you get. Shower has good power! The Breakfast what we could order was very tasty. But has to be ordered - in my opinion it would be better having a small buffet (this is not negative just to mention it!)

Shower with no curtains, things like curtains in bedroom are not giving a lot of darkness for the night.Really overpriced for what you get in my opinion.

Beautiful location with amazing view and very friendly and helpful staff. Also, the breakfast is amazing!

8PaulaPosted on: 5-24-2023

The property was in a beautiful setting. The rooms were very clean and very nice.

The rooms were small.

10OwenPosted on: 4-1-2023

Incredible location, everything is beautifully presented, view from our room was like looking at a painting. Didn’t get to sample the dinner menu (outside our budget unfortunately) but the included breakfasts were excellent

10BernhardPosted on: 8-15-2022

Wonderful restaurant, don't miss the cocktails, the home-made bread and the fish. They offer a very nice breakfast too.

We liked everything
