Pros +
- Casal d'Arta is a unique place. The hotel is located on a charming square. Its interior is neat, clean, beautifully decorated and cozy. Our room was perfect - again very clean and very cozy. During our stay, the weather in Majorca was quite unpredictable, it was cold and rainy. But thanks to the heating in the room, we could adjust the air temperature to our preferences. Our host Ida was very welcoming and warm, and willing to share her recommendations for visiting the island. What's also great is that we had a choice of cafes, bars and restaurants just a few minutes from the hotel. I recommend Bar Ca'n Matemales for breakfast and lovely Vermuteria by Baudot 1926 for tapas and drinks.
- The property is stunningly beautiful, very clean, perfectly located and the owners are extremely caring, lovely and helpful. They also run a tapas restaurant which was definitely a highlight on our trip.
- Very friendly host, nice building, clean room, good breakfast, bathroom was also a good size and clean.
Cons -
- Nothing we were super happy here.
- No window in the room, the air was not circulating well, humidity quite high, very little light. The only window is in the bathroom and it has a "inner courtyard view" but actually the view is very narrow and when the kitchen is open at the restaurant all smell comes up through this only window. Also, you can hear anything happening on the hallway and other rooms as the walls are quite thin.
- The bathroom is old, dirty and unhygienic. Not what one expects for the price one is paying. The window is stuck and cannot be open so no ventilation in the bathroom. The mouldy bathroom made my partner and I feel very uncomfortable. We asked the owner for our bedroom to be cleaned because we saw some rest of something gluey in the drain of the sink and the sink was dirty when we arrived and we communicated all this, but unfortunately we were only told the following day that the cleaner had finished early the day before so it had not been possible but it would have been nice to have been given an answer that day instead of keeping us waiting. Because of this and the fact that there is no Reception area, we thought that we did not receive the service for which we had paid. It was disgusting for us to brush our teeth with that gluey thing in the drain for 2 days. When it was finally cleaned, that night we saw a baby cockroach in the bathroom. Despite our complains about the noise (you hear EVERYTHING, it is like you had the window open when you actually have it closed) and the lack of cleannesses, we were not given another room immediately or a compensation. We were very uncomfortable because of all this. Also, all in the bathroom is super old. Bathtub and furniture should be changed. The curtains in the bedroom do not do their job so as soon as the sun is out, the room is completely lit up and you cannot sleep. We’re definitely not coming back.

The exchanges with owner before arrival, the bedroom is nice and the TV has Netflix.

The staff was really nice, friendly and helpful. Breakfast outside was lovely. The building and interior is beautifully decorated. The place is quiet during the night.
Nothing really
Central location
**BE CAREFUL: Misleading Room Description and Lack of Basic Amenities**Have you ever wondered whether your hotel room has a window when booking it? Here, it’s better to check! When booking a hotel room, one assumes that basic elements such as natural light and air circulation will be provided unless otherwise specified. Unfortunately, the room I booked was completely dark and damp, with no air circulation whatsoever.Upon arrival, I was shocked to find that the room lacked a proper window. The only "window" in the room was an opaque pane located in the bathroom, inside the bathtub, which opened into an interior services shaft. This is far from what anyone would reasonably expect, and this crucial detail was not disclosed in the room description on the platform. When we expressed our disappointment to the hotel management, their response was: "Our small standard rooms don’t have windows." Our requests for a room change or a partial refund were completely denied, and they made no effort to resolve the situation. Apparently, for them, a room with no window and no air circulation is normal!Furthermore, the room’s lack of natural light and ventilation poses significant hygiene concerns. There was no system of air circulation, making the room feel stuffy and uncomfortable. This not only violates basic standards of hospitality but also raises serious questions about the room's compliance with health regulations.I believe that such a misleading description should not be allowed, and the hotel should clearly state: **ROOM WITH NO WINDOWS AND LACK OF AIR CIRCULATION.** "A cave is more comfortable."
The hotel is right at the city center, but still not too loud. The room is nicely decorated, breakfast was rich and delicious, the host was also very friendly.
Nothing. Maybe just a recommendation is to have a small fridge in the room.
Fantastic host, Ida, was very friendly and welcoming and always very helpful. The location was great in quiet part of Artà with great restaurant for bfast, lunch, dinner in the small square. The rooms were great, smallish but well equipped and with nice local views.
Not many things to jot like - no lift so if you have heavy bags it’s a bit of a struck up the stairs and the rooms were a bit small but neither were significant issues.
The best place I have ever stayed. Would recommend to anyone staying in Artà. Truly beautiful, and large rooms in the center of the city. Ms Ida was more than a wonderful host, she was a genuine beautiful person who I won't forget. ?? I could not recommend this book place enough
Nothing not to like
The breakfast was excellent- we ordered individual items- coffee, orange juice, and pastries- it was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. It was nice to eat outside in the sunshine.
Everything was great- this is our favorite place that we stayed at in Spain and if we visit Arta again we would not look around but return to this hotel. The location and facilities are perfect- close to the center of town but not in the middle of it.
Ida & Carmelo was the most helpful, kind & warm host(s). We felt like they are family. The rooms appear to all be different but just as our room, lobby, restaurant, rooftop terrace, staircase, beautifully decorated. Centrally located, (churches are close by) many seemed to enjoy their very popular restaurant. We enjoyed our beautiful stay in Arte-unforgettable, THANK YOU Ida & Carmelo for a PERFECT stay!
Leaving
The hotel is perfectly located in the city center of Artà.
I have stayed in this hotel 5 times this year (10 nights). 3 times I was standing in front of a closed door at my arrival. The concept of the key safe does not work. The key safe was empty and I was standing in front of a locked door in the middle of the night. Getting hold of a contact person in the middle of the night turned our difficult. Fortunately I finally managed to get access to the hotel. I kept quite the first two incidents. After the 3rd incident I lost my patience, complained and requested a compensation. I was referred to from A to Z and never received a call back from the owner. As a consequence, I have cancelled my future reservation in this hotel which had already been scheduled. I‘m really disappointed!
This is a lovely old property just asking to be upgraded into a boutique hotel. I very much hope that happens, but for now it's a functional, clean, central base that I'd be happy to return to if it remains good value. The doorway and main staircase are very attractive, with open areas on each landing with old paintings and photographs etc. There are wonderful views over the town and beyond from the smallish roof terrace, which makes it a great place to enjoy an evening drink (if you take your own, of course - no service here!). Sun loungers on the terrace would be a a great addition, but for now there are plenty of upright chairs and tables up there. Rooms are either small and facing the back of the property and distant hills, or else large and facing a very attractive square. Rooms 3,4,7 and 8 are all at the front, in pairs - i.e: 3 and 4 opposite one another across a pleasant lobby, and 7 and 8 identically arranged one floor up. These ones all have french doors, i.e: opening in the middle, to the ground. (The single back rooms have smaller windows and tiny bathrooms.) Despite the central location there was almost no noise at night from the square, as restaurants seem to close fairly early here and there are no big bars - so it's peaceful even if you leave the french doors open. A big old wardrobe was fun to use and the fridge had a bottle opener attached, which was useful. Water pressure in the bath/shower was excellent - the bath filled in minutes. Not a huge bath, but fine if you don't need to wallow. Clean towels and bed linen, and a comfortable firm mattress.
This is an odd listing as, despite the way it looks from the outside and in the entryway, it's not so much a hotel as a set of rooms. There are no staff; you simply retrieve your key from the key container set up (too high) in the wall outside, and once you've managed to wrench the keys out, you come and go. This has the advantage of simplicity, but it also means there's no-one there so sort out problems or ask advice of, and minimal maintenance. Two basic room facilities that were listed on Booking.com were absent: the hairdryer was missing from my room and there was no aircon. Neither was a huge problem - I borrowed a hairdryer from a friend in another room and our trip was late enough in Sept for aircon not to be needed. But in high summer I would check before booking that aircon is present - and that it works! The bed was made only once during the four nights I stayed. The bathroom towel rail (room 7) had completely come away from the wall at one end, hanging vertical and therefore useless. Shaving mirror and shower head were hung too high (- a frequent problem when men are left to put them up!) - and there were tiny signs of mould in corners around the bath. So the place, although functional and spacious, feels unloved and a bit un-cared for. Some basic DIY would make a big difference, as would plumbing repairs (according to friend in much smaller single room!).
The building had been a private house. I never saw one member of staff. There was no reception and no one answered the telephone number left on the wall. A catering company leased the ground floor kitchen and they served food outside in the square but they didn’t know how to reach the owners . I had one towel for the whole week with no change of sheets or cleaning of the room.My hand shower was broken.
My room had no view. No service and we never saw a member of staff.
The position of the property was in a very good locationWe were in room 2 at the top of the stairs so was very noisy with customers passing also there was an adjoining door on the other side of which was the bathroom and next doors ablutions could be heard quite clearly!!Our bathroom was down a long corridor and the only window to either room was looking out at the extractor chimney for the restaurant below with the smells from the cookingLoose floor tiles , worn out and stained Lino in corridor and bathroom and no lights in corridorOne bath towel for two people and taps falling off!
Practically everything except the location and we left after two nights although we had paid for four nights to find something betterNot good value for money and overpriced for the facilities Needs a refurbishment!
Room size was great, Hotel location and neighbourhood was good.
Self check-in system is just not working. if you are lucky enough the night will pass without someone trying to open your room door but in general it is normal someone will try to open your room looking for their own room.We spent 3 days in the hotel without meeting any on the staff, no one changed our towels no one was there whenever we needed help. one of our friends had issues with their room and the owner was no were to be found. He even stopped picking up our calls.During our stay and upon returning from the beach, there were no water in any of the rooms.
There was a nice roof top terrace
Smell of oil in my room. No window
The location was good and the terrace really nice.
There is no reception, we haven't seen anyone in 6 days. This also means you need to solve the problems by yourself. No blinds in the window, meaning that at 6am the room was full of light. Really old AC system that didn't work 2 nights and we were in the hottest room being under the roof. One night the water was not working. The bathroom is really different from the pictures you see in booking. Finally, for any guest that will move at night you'll wake up, since the rooms are definitely not soundproof. It's cheaper than other options in Artá, but still with a high price for which you would not expect this.
Wonderful old world charm and lively location
no kettle
It was amazing value for money. Beautiful building and roof terrace with amazing views. One of my favourite places in Mallorca!
