Pros +
- We enjoyed the more remote location. We prefer to be out of the chaos. Agree with other reviews a car is preferred for access. The breakfast is good and consistent every morning. We learned our last morning there you could order scrambled or fried eggs vs having the boiled eggs. Wish we had known this on our first morning.
- The view from the balcony was fantastic!!Also, the staff was friendly and helped with anything we needed.
- Completely charming family run hotel. Incredibly warm reception from the family staff. The breakfast buffet was superb. The location is exquisite in the summer, being in a field above the village. The views from the balcony were stunning at every time of the day and night. We look forward to coming back in future years.
Cons -
- The staff is a bit more hands off than we experienced in the Val Gardena area…some assistance or maps for the hikes in the area would have been appreciated.
- The breakfast was poor
- Restaurant was not open for dinner in July but there are several superb eateries in the village (esp. Mato and Baita Ciastel).

San Vito is GORGEOUS and the area near the hotel has some of the most amazing views I've ever seen. Staff was really friendly and helpful with recommendations, and breakfast was probably the best I've had in Italy. Homemade pastries with savory options, a really rare treat. The nearby restaurant, Baita, was amazing with the most wonderful staff.
The hotel is separated from the rest of town by a pretty big hill which can be a bit challenging after a day of activities. It's a bit hard to find spots to eat outside of town so you'll likely end up doing the hill at least once or twice a day ~15 mins straight up. If you have a car it's not an issue though, and the front desk was kind enough to give me a ride when I had luggage!
Friendly kind staff. Comfortable and silent place.
Very friendly staff, very clean and well kept property.
Beds could be a little more comfortable
Lovely place outside the city, very quiet with a beautiful view on the mountainsVery lovely people, welcoming and helpful.Great breakfast/
Rooms & bathroom looks a bit old, but they are very clean.
Incredible breakfast—best I had during my entire Italian vacation. Staff is super welcoming and pleasant. Mountain View’s and peaceful environment made for a very relaxing stay.
This was probably my favorite stay in Italy! Hotel Il Cardo is very close to popular sites in the Dolomites and it was a good base for hiking/sightseeing. The women that run the hotel do an outstanding job. They work very long hours. As a guest I didn't feel like I had to worry about anything. They had good suggestions for restaurants in the area. The views are amazing, the beds are comfortable and breakfast was very good. We took advantage of the spa area and it was definitely worth the extra expense!! If I ever get the opportunity to go back to this area I would stay here again
everything was great
Fantastic location, great breakfast and exceptionally nice and helpful staff
It would be nice to have a kettle in the room
Lovely family run hotel with friendly team. Traditional feel kept really clean and tidy. Great breakfast. Location is great, at the top of the town with great views across the valley and to the mountain. Hot tub was a nice treat.
Nothing!
A beautiful hotel with wonderful friendly staff. The rooms were incredibly clean and the bed very comfortable. The hot tub and sauna were an added bonus and at 20 euro each we thought it was a wonderful way to treat ourselves after a big day hiking. The breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed all the wonderful cakes. Highly recommend!
Staff were exceptionally kind and very helpful. We arrived much later than expected and even though the hotel restaurant was closed, they still offered to cook us a meal!Views from our balcony were exceptional. Room was very clean and spacious.
Sound proofing between rooms was not great. We had a couple with a baby next to us and were woken in the night multiple times when we could hear the baby crying.
Great views, very kind and welcoming family run staff.
Perfect location plus excellent staffs.Good foods. Easy parking.
Room was impeccable - nothing over the top but very comfy. The location was great if you have a car to access the mountains, near a cute little town with everything you need. The staff were incredible and so welcoming to every need. Will definitely be back here, such a joy to stay here.
The breakfast had many tasty options and I appreciated that they had non-dairy milk available. The location was excellent and the room was spacious and very clean.
The mattress was a bit too hard and the pillow wasn’t very comfortable.
Very nice team, very helpful. Very clean.
An outdated facility. Shower extremely tiny
This place is absolutely incredible. The room was a lovely old Italian room with character. We had an incredible view from our balcony. Everything was so clean and kept in such perfect condition. The staff were incredible and went above and beyond for us. The Sauna and spa was amazing after a long day hiking. And then of course the breakfast spread was amazing!! Cannot fault this place.
The location was perfect for us but only because we had a car. If you don't have a car I can imagine it might be a little annoying because it's out of town.
Good breakfast. Short drive to main high street with good restaurants and a supermarket.
