Beautiful property, amazing staff. Gorgeous room, fantastic breakfast.

My stay was disappointing compared to when I stayed there 7 years ago. The hotel needs an update. The pool was not clean, the first room they gave me had no working air conditioning but I was able to switch rooms. The staff were very courteous and friendly. The food at the restaurant was very good but again, no air conditioning in the dining room. The Pestana group needs to invest further in this hotel since it is well located and in a historic building. It has really deteriorated in the last few years, it’s really too bad.

Beautiful pousada on top of the hill. Spacious rooms with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The grounds and inside all very well maintained. Soft big towels and wonderful breakfast buffet. Staff extremely friendly. We were allowed to put our bicycles in the church so they were safely stored there.
Is a nice place in a castle. The rooms are big and comfortable. Breakfast is ok.
The property is not well maintained (great potential but you just notice it is not in good shape). Low investment. Some staff good others very bad (for instance in breakfast if we wanted to go to the tables outside we needed to move things ourselves, they did not help and looked at us in strange way…). The price is not that far from other hotels from same group to justify this difference of standard
Excellent staff location and breakfast- an underrated hotel in a historical setting going back to the Iron age
Amazing setting and ambiance, an ancient convent inside a castle on top of the hill, beautiful views across the Rio Sado and the ricefields. The hotel is tastefully decorated, evocative of its medieval history and features several inviting nooks to relax with a book or enjoy a drink. Great quality buffet breakfast. Pool not in use.
Ambiance of the hotel built within the castle, using some of the original castle walls. The staff on site was exemplary. The beds were great. Loved the fireplace fire at night, with a cold drink. Das gut.
The hike back up the hill after we went to eat for din din. Should have driven. The chairs in the room were a bit used.
Location is stunning as is the interior. So much character! The room was very nice and a good size as was the bathroom. Staff lovely
Breakfast could have been a bit better I thought. It was OK but not a lot of fruit/berry options and cereal selection was a bit limited (eg muesli/granola)
Terrible
Room was way to hot! They turned the AC off for the season and it was a warm day. We left and found a new hotel for the night!
The location was amazing, with a great view The surroundings with the castle and the perfect fit between an historical space and the modernity of the Hotel.
The WiFI could be better and faster.
Beautiful, historical building which has been thoughtfully repurposed as a hotel. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were very good.
The bathroom was a little cramped and dated and needed some repairs.
A unique and luxurious stay, rooms were to a very standard and we loved the pool. Amazing castle exteriors and delicious breakfast.
The room was spacious, clean, and a lovely comfortable bed. It had a great view from the balcony and was convenient for the town and surrounding area. The Pousada being of great historical interest was a real find, we enjoyed theMuseum underneath. The breakfast was good with a lot of choice. We did not eat in the restaurant.
The lighting was very poor in the public lounge, not at all welcoming. The bar was never staffed, and we had to keep ringing the reception. They had no ice for the drinks on one occasion. I felt the whole place lacked finesse, which you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
Provided a reasonable buffet.Location beautiful.
Superior double room was very tired. Old wooden walls in hallway dirty and marked.Wooden floor dirty, sink under stone top very dirty, desk in room with completely defunfed old fridge cuboard.Furniture on balconcy coming apart, small fridge on floor in room and very noisy- had to turn it off to sleep. The elevator was very dirty we complained- finally the view from our room was fabulos but the windows were very dirty.
The hotel is beatiuful! The views from the top of the mountain and the sunsets are breathtaking!
The service at the swimmigpool is not very good. The bread at breakfast was not very tasty.
Pousada do castelo is very well located. Just a short walk from the top of the hill to the villa’s centre. The halls are amazing and every corner is filled with history.
Room was comfortable, however spring mattresses are a bit dated for our taste.
Room and bathroom were HUGE....Real castle size!Comfortable bed and nice views from the tallest spot in town.We chose this stay, to be near Comporta beaches, and the 20 minutes ride back and forth were worthwhile. Good, clean room and breakfast included for a very fair price!
Weekend mornings were a bit chaotic for breakfast. Took quite a long time to get done with it.Perhaps more staff for the extra guests on holidays would help. Monday was sooo much better!
Bad
Room very old. Fridge not working. Swimming pool green
