Pros +
- The style. Stuck in the 70’s. I loved it.
- Excellent restaurant within the hotel that just opened. Breafast selection has been increased, all dinners that I ate were exquistely prepared. Grilled Octopus was the best I've had in a long time. Room temprature is easily adjusted to my personal comfort level. Staff, especially Rui Oliveira was very helpful at the front desk numerous times.
- Old Bones, Golden Mornings: Why Hotel Sol e Serra Still Shines in Castelo de VideIf you're expecting sleek, modern minimalism, Hotel Sol e Serra might not be your cup of tea. Yes, the building shows its age. Yes, the décor leans heavily into the vintage—some might say dated—charm of decades past. But if you can see beyond the walls and embrace the character, you’ll find a hidden gem. What really elevates this place is the people. The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming, making you feel like a returning guest even on your first visit. And then there’s the breakfast: generous, varied, and far beyond what you’d expect for the price. We're talking a spread that could rival higher-end stays, served with care and without pretension.Hotel Sol e Serra may not be flawless, but it has heart—and in a town as enchanting as Castelo de Vide, that’s more than enough. We recommended and certainly will return.
Cons -
- No laundry services despite fresh towels daily.
- Facilities are showing age in some areas, but were very clean and in good repair.
- Facilities are very old and even though they work everything is very aged and very close to brake

The location is amazing love the town , the hotel is clean but very outdated this didn't affect our comfort for some of us
Facilities are very old and even though they work everything is very aged and very close to brake
Well priced, very close to center of town less than 4 minutes.Lots of rooms and a good size. Many rooms have a balcony.Breakfast was good
Nothing to complain about.
Great breakfast, very quiet town, only found one place to eat.
Hotel needs some spiffing up
Location and view were amazing. Swimming pool was beautiful.
AC in the room didn't work at first, room was not very good. Beds were old and did lots of noise and the toilet was uncomfortable made of plastic. We were on the third floor and the elevator was not working so we had to go by stairs many times cause the other elevator didn't work well as well. Some people got stuck in it so we were hearing the alarm multiple times.
Lovely pool, helpful that we could store our bags before catching the bus back to Lisbon. Very nice stay.
It is a wee bit old, but that didn't matter at all. Everything was fine.
The breakfast has improved, there was traditional bread that I could eat. Fruit, although it would have been betterif it was cut and ready, rather than having to cut it yourself with a butter knife.
Just give the guests fresh cut fruit to spoon into a bowl
Reception clerk gave us a very nice room with balcony. It was a big room. The breakfast was decent.
Location is beautiful, staff was very friendly and helpful
Beds were not very confortable and made sounds everytime I moved.Building is not very well isolated and sounds could be heard through the night and morning
I liked the warm atmosphere and that the rooms have baths
The breakfast, second visit and still no cut fruit. No croissants or selection of breads
It was clean comfortable and very good value for money. Breakfast was good with plenty to choose from
Well positioned . Nice view . A lovely balcony with view of mountains and church
Great location, good price, big room, clean
This place is dated and worn. Nonetheless it is clean and the beds were comfortable. Wifi in our room was virtually nonexistent
It was clean and had the essentials. The staff were pleasant.
It’s very dated and the coffee was not good
Very good location
Pool wasn’t working and there was no reference to that fact on the hotel page on booking.com. I wouldn’t have booked this hotel had i known that.
The balcony, the view, the location and the price
The old facilities
We were given an upper floor room with a balcony and a view of the mountains (accessible by lift or stairs). A good buffet breakfast was served in the first floor dining room which has a tree growing through it as part of the décor. There was free parking outside the hotel, which is a few minutes walk to the town centre. It made a good base for walking in the area.
Great location in Castelo de Vide. The town is lovely! The hotel should be nice in the summer with the pool.
The restrooms are very old and the floor is cold, making the rooms uncomfortable.
