About

The Hotel Bernina has 41 rooms, a restaurant, and a large terrace. WLAN is available free of charge throughout the accommodations and has been upgraded to a faster and more secure connection. During the summer months, the hotel serves as an excellent starting point for long walks, hikes, and bike tours. When you book this hotel, you will receive the Engadin Card, which provides complimentary access to local cable cars, mountain railways, and busses. There is a bus stop located directly in front of the hotel. During the winter season, the nearby bus stop provides quick and convenient access to the surrounding ski areas. The Corviglia and Marguns ski areas are approximately a 10‑minute drive away, and a cross‑country ski trail is located just 1640 feet from the property. Guests staying for at least one night are eligible for the special ski pass offer, where the number of overnight stays equals the number of ski days, available for only CHF 47 per day. A ski room, a bike, and a wash station are also available on-site for your convenience. Guests with cars and e-vehicles can conveniently park and charge their cars in our own underground garage for a fee.

    Pros +

    • Excellent restaurant and staff. Located next to bus stop. Engadin Card is a real value.
    • I recently stayed at this hotel and had a great experience. The location was excellent, making it easy to explore the area. The breakfast was very good, offering a wide variety of fresh and delicious options. The sauna was decent—clean and well-maintained, though not particularly exceptional. Overall, a comfortable stay with good amenities. Would recommend!
    • Charming old hotel in very good condition. Clean bathroom, sauna. Very good location near bus stop - good for skiing. Good restaurant. Good breakfast.

    Cons -

    • However, the rooms felt quite old and in need of an update. Given the high price, even considering the high season, the overall value didn’t quite match expectations. While some aspects were enjoyable, I expected more for the cost.
    • Everything was good.
    • The room was really old, especially the bathroom. Although it was clean, you don't feel comfortable in the bathroom because it’s so old.

    The location is good.

For reference, I have stayed in six different hotels in pontresina, so I am comparing Hotel Bernina to the others.i.e all of my comments are relative to the others. The breakfast buffet was disappointing; besides usual items such as bread and jam etc. there was a selection of pre-prepared items on small plates wrapped in cling film. The majority of the staff were unwelcoming. I could hear people talking in the hallway all night / my door was not as sound proof as I would have expected.

It's a historic property and I could tell the staff has worked there for a long time. They were very nice and helpful, much "warmer" than staff from other hotels in Switzerland that I had experienced, made my 1-night stay very comfortable.

It's understandable that the property is a historic building but I do wish it can add more outlets for device charging. There's only 1 outlet for me to charge my phone and the powerbank which I had to take turns to charge them.

Despite its location ag the center it was really quiet and cozy. The bed was really comfortable and the breakfast buffet outstanding.

Very good location, 20 m from a bus stop.Nice sauna you can book privately (1 hour notice)close to everything and a lot to do.Reasonable price compared to the others in area.Breakfast was amazing!Good staff, helpful and kind. Hotel has lots of free space and facilities.

Rooms a bit small.Restaurant menu only in German.Expensive for Europe, but good compared to Switzerland

    6LissaPosted on: 7-29-2024

    Well located.

Staff forgot cleaning supplies in the room. Check-in two hours before the regular check in time was another 70chf.

Beautiful common room. Excellent breakfast buffet! Very friendly staffCosy room next to inviting terrace. Restaurant offers very good local food.

Bathroom is VERY dated and not really acceptable for the price they charge. No shampoo. Tiny TV.

    Excellent staff, very good breakfast.

Small room, an extra 5-10 square metres would be just perfect.

    7LindaPosted on: 3-13-2024

Breakfast was superb, lot of choice, little plates of cheese and meat were wrapped separately (hygiene) what a great idea, gluten-free foods

Shower in bath with shower curtain. no ventilation. no shower soap available. The room had an old look, needs renovating. amazing view to the church though!

    everything ok

    8DanielaPosted on: 1-29-2024

Good location, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel is designed with a lot of attention to detail. In addition to the rooms, the have lounges where you can play a game or sit and call after a day in the mountains.

The selection at breakfast was great, however I was a bit irritated by the fact that things were individually wrapped and packed which did not look appealing and I feel a lot of the plastic foil could be avoided.

Hotel Bernia has several common rooms that are available to guests to gather, etc. There is also a restaurant with a nice patio next door. Our rooms were comfortable.

We arrived by train about 9:15 PM and expected to find either a bus or a taxi at the train station but there were none. The hotel is located a few steps from the Pontresina Post and there is regular bus service from a stop there to the train station -- but it stops around 6:00 PM. We thought the hotel had a taxi or shuttle as Rick Steve's tour book said they would pick us up for free -- but that seemed to be a surprise when we called the hotel. Eventually we got a taxi -- but it would be good to have a plan if arriving after 6:00 PM.
