Pros +
- We loved everything about this boutique hotel. Although the rooms were small, it had everything we needed. The staff was fantastic, the decor tasteful and they had a great breakfast. Hands down our favorite place we stayed in Iceland.
- Loved this place! Nice to have a reasonable priced single room while traveling with friends. Clean, quiet and comfy. Beautiful short walk to a gorgeous view of the surrounding islands, next door to a fantastic fish restaurant, lovely onsite breakfast. If you're in the area would definitely recommend!
- Great location, great staff, great space in room and nice amenities
Cons -
- Breakfast was not included, which made the cost even more expensive. The bed was not comfortable. This place is more a bed & breakfast (without breakfast) than a hotel. It was nice in many ways but fell short in others.
- Everything was perfect, we didn’t have a single complaint to offer.
- Nothing not to like.

The shower was fantastic. The town was lovely although pretty far away from the sights. The hotel staff were great and very helpful.

My husband and I would rate this whole experience was AMAZING!!! The rooms were lovely, the location perfect, and our host Marta deserves 100 stars!! She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable! We arrived in the evening, Marta got us all settled in and even called The Skipper (her recommendation and delicious!) to make us a dinner reservation so there was no wait for a table. In the morning Marta put together a feast of a breakfast to get us ready for a day of hiking, it was without a doubt the best breakfast we had in our two weeks of Iceland travel. It was clear Marta was this attentive to all of the guests, making a cup of tea for a guest with a cough and knowing it was a young man’s birthday in the morning. All in all the best stay of our whole trip!
Everything was perfect, we didn’t have a single complaint to offer.
Marta was just amazing. She accommodated all our request. Place is well located. Everything was peaceful
Though a winter stay, I received a warm welcome into a pleasant main room, decorated for Christmas with lights aglow. Loved the book lined walls and original decor all around. My room was warm and cozy, with a nice en suite. Plenty of parking and great location to restaurants.
Nothing not to like.
Egilsen was a sweet cozy stay with a very comfortable bed. Hotel Budir is owned by the same folks. The inn keeper was lovely; friendly and professional. She knocked on our door as requested to see the northern lights. Egilsen is located in a really cute fishing village with plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The inn keeper offered to make reservations for us and made excellent recommendations.
Breakfast was creatively served. Facilities were exceptionally clean and comfortable. Fun to see the harbor so close.
Both the breakfast and the room cost seemed very high, compared to any others so far on our 2 week Iceland trip.
Easily the best shower we had in Iceland! Power shower rain overhead was fantastic! Room was lovely. We knew it would be small, which was okay. Very much lives up to “boutique.” We had nice view of the harbor area. Walkable to almost anything in Stykkishólmur. We ate at the Nesbraud bakery as well as Skipper, both great and walkable from hotel. Super windy the first day we were there! We loved walking around both days, including the hike up the island straight ahead. The bar from Walter Mitty is right next door and that whole area was a Mecca for many young Chinese tourists while we were there, taking many many pictures and videos around there. Fun to watch!
We knew the stairs would be tight. There was some road noise since it’s on a corner but nothing that interfered with sleep. We didn’t do the $$$ breakfast but it looked lovely.
Location was great, the breakfast very good. The room was clean and comfortable.
Such an idyllic location footsteps from the harbor—quaint cheerful houses and churches. Just a joy to walk around the small town. The lighthouse is on an adjacent landmass that is reachable by foot from the harbor. The inn itself is charming and the staff friendly.
Staff was great.
Small room, breakfast was extra. A bit worn down. Expensive for what it was.
The cutest b&b! Breakfast was delicious as was the coffee and tea. Staff were all so sweet. Room was a good size as well.
Nothing ?
Such friendly staff! Beautiful location, awesome breakfast.
The shower flooded the bathroom and it made it quick a mess
Cute and comfortable guesthouse with private bath and great breakfast. Shower was powerful and hot. WiFi worked well. Staff was excellent and helpful. Parking right outside. Small town so not a lot of other facilities but a couple of nearby restaurants served evening meal.
I had a standard single in upper floor under the eaves so found myself hitting my head against the sloping ceiling. I'd recommend going for superior room if possible.
We had an amazing experience. Martha greeted us and we instantly felt welcomed. From the amazing service of describing the area and making dinner reservations for us, to the wonderful rooms, to the delicious breakfast, we could not ask for any more. THANK YOU!
Cute, historic building. Very cozy breakfastroom/lounge. Staff was friendly and helpful. Assisted in offering options for dinner and made dinner reservations. I opted out of the Hotel breakfast and staff provided other options in the area. Great location and parking.
The bathroom was not clean. Toilet had not been flushed from prior guest and there was debris on the bathroom floor.
Excellent, efficient, helpful, friendly staff.
Expensive, but everything in Iceland is expensive.
Wonderful location, cozy room. The bar/breakfast area was welcoming. Chris, on staff when we checked in, was super helpful. He had a great recommendation for the fish and chips food truck just down the road. It was fabulous!
Be prepared for a small room. Room 2 is just off the breakfast/reception/bar so can get loud. This was only an issue when a very loud (albeit happy- she kept laughing, loudly) guest checked out at 7:15am.
