    Pros +

    • The staff was great
    • The restaurant in the hotel is exceptional. Best meal I had in portugal was paired perfectly with the wine the waiter suggested. The experience was made even better with the performance of a singer/guitar player who serenaded us during the evening.
    • Lovely boutique hotel filled with books, character, and charm - with an amazing breakfast and a top notch restaurant, serving gourmet dishes at great prices. Location is close to everything. Highly recommended!

    Cons -

    • It was dirty, bed bugs, things were broken and they didn¿t have my booking when I arrived
    • We booked through Booking.com and it forced us to book two rooms each with a king size bed. The hotel was able to give us these rooms on the same floor however they were quite far apart. We had to split our family of four with two young children across the rooms and while it was comfortable overall, it was definitely inconvenient and expensive. I wish the hotel would have been a bit flexible with us and given us one room with some extra beds instead of charging us for two full rooms that were located far apart.
    • The breakfast was great but there were very few options if you came after 10 am despite it being offered until noon.

the hotel was absolutely stunning. from the moment we walked in the door to getting comfortable in our rooms, every aspect of the hotel took our breath away. the walls lined with books, the warm fireplace in the restaurant, the low beds that were super comfortable, the clean, spacious bathrooms - we felt lucky to have found this hidden gem. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Rustic feel surrounded by books! Central to all the town has to offer! Walkable to restaurants, cafes, and the city walls.

The breakfast was great but there were very few options if you came after 10 am despite it being offered until noon.

    Breakfast was excellent.

Dinner was over priced and poor service.

The breakfast is something else! Haven’t seen a breakfast like this. So many choices. Lots of traditional Portuguese pies. Also the interior creates a very nice vibe. It would perfectly fit a dungeon and dragons themed holiday

The bed and pillows are oke, but could be improved. You can hear the other rooms easily at night.

Everything! Loved the book-lined walls, the gorgeous and clean room, friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast, lounge for sipping local wine before the hearth, surrounded by books. It is a book lover’s paradise. Reading nooks in every corner.

Oh my goodness...what a great hotel. Originally a library...then later on transformed to be a hotel with a very unique vibe. Modern enough for your current needs, with a touch of "mid-evil" ambiance. Very close to the mayor attractions , but far enough to be not to be bothered the "touristy" noise. Parking was easy, very close to the entrance. Our room was just charming. My bed was a bit of firm at first, but the helpful staff added a mattress topper and then was perfect. And the breakfast ! Such a good variety of warm and cold tasty foods... and then cakes and puddings - if you like - for breakfast was beyond my expectation. Frankly, it was a lovely feast. I can go on and on to cheering this hotel, but go ahead and find out yourself... We absolutely recommend this hotel to everyone ! P.S. Be prepared to be around thousand and thousands of books ;)

Unique theme, great staff, perfect location just outside of okd town

It had a great breakfast. It was close to the walled city.

I had a two night reservation confirmed. On the second day we were in a nearby town when I got a call that I was supposed to have checked out. He insisted that I had canceled which I hadn't. We had to rush back ruining our day of exploring the area, packed our things, and had to find another place to stay. The next day Booking messaged me that the hotel notified them that I failed to check in.

Genuinely one of the most interesting hotels I’ve stayed in! The place is filled wall to wall with books, and even the menu of the restaurant is literary-themed. My room is spacious and it has its own little balcony with table and chairs.

In a library, super special. Excellent breakfast with a young lady that served us the best eggs ever. Friendly young personnel. We were welcomed and treated to a strawberry chocolate tray with decorations to celebrate our anniversary

The must smell was oppressive but it’s personal. The bathroom needs some love and care.

The ambience was amazing! If you are a book lover this place is heaven. The room and private terrace where lovely and the breakfast in the morning was delicious

We loved our stay here. It was very comfortable and the hotel itself was very cozy. The room and bathroom were very clean too! The breakfast was also really good.

    Nothing!

A special hotel in a very pleasant city. Pleasant hospitality at the hotel, assistance with any questions, and a real experience with tens of thousands of books. Dinner at the hotel restaurant - very tasty, and so is breakfast. The only gap for improvement - in the remote rooms, it takes a long time for hot water to reach the shower pipe...but really, it pales in comparison to the experience at the hotel. In short: recommend!

    Beautiful building and great location.

The hallways and carpet look old and dirty. Our bedroom was lovely but the bathroom shower had mold on the walls.

I loved the large cavernous room, it was so unique and quiet. Sleeping in a room with ancient architectural curves instead of square rooms is very pleasing.

Their breakfasts are the BOMB! A beautiful and tasty spread every morning. Unfortunately I ate dinner at their restaurant my last night, as I wanted to give it a try based on the breakfasts. The food was mediocre—it tasted o.k. but the presentation wasn’t very thoughtful and I thought it was overpriced for what it was. Portion was on the small side. I had a much better meal the night before for far less money up the street.
