    Pros +

    • The staff were extremely helpful and courteous, but the hotel was very odd. It felt like a place that was very special in its heyday, but it is badly in need of a refresh. It was completely empty, which probably does not portent well.
    • Staff was nice and friendly. The hotel itself was at one time amazing, with grand entry, large grand public rooms, craved wood, stained glass. But today its like a broken promise. Rooms are tired, carpets are stained.Big investment in room refurbishment is needed.
    • Location and outside presence

    Cons -

    • No refrigerators or hot water kettles in the room (though they kindly did provide a kettle when asked. The breakfast was really sub-standard, I had better breakfasts at youth hostels along my route.
    • Staff ill trained, place tired and somewhat run down breakfast very ordinary
    • Some facilities are old and need refurbishment (ex: swiming pool); some things were not working (both jacuzzi and turkish bath were in maintenance); the control of the ventilation system was not working (unable to turn it off in the night and was very noisy).

Location, beautiful gardens and indoor pool. Excellent breakfast.

Breakfast was very nice. SPA AND POOL were not functioning at the time.

The hotel has a beautiful style, and there are gardens and animals to visit and enjoy nature.

Beautiful and very well maintained hotel of 20’s. Attention to the detail, the staff was very kind. It was raining at night so we stayed for dinner. The room is beautiful and food totally worth it! Highly recommended!

Hotel is beautiful, it really feels that you are entering a different era, staff in the breakfast room is really nice and attentive. It is really nice to spend a whole weekend there and just get lost in time.

I selected this hotel because I wanted to enjoy the spa. Most spa facilities were not working: steam bath was not working, japanese bath was not working, one of the jacuzzis didn't have the whirlpool working; furthermore, the main pool had a therapy circuit which seemed to have different functionalities and only one of them was working. After having this experience the night we arrived, we decided to have an extra quick morning sauna before we left at 11h so we could enjoy a bit more (spa opens at 10h) and when we got there, no one was there to welcome us and to give us towels and sauna was not yet turned on, and it took half an hour to be hot enough, and at that point we had to leave already. It could have felt like an honest accidental delay, had our experience the previous day not have been so poor - this led us to feel that the people there do not really care to provide a good service. Adding up to this, I was contacted by the hotel before arrival because the room we selected didn't have a double bed as indicated on the Booking reservation. I asked if we could upgrade to a room with a double bed and an extra fee was charged, granted we had a view to the garden. Disappointing to get there and see that the view to the garden was actually a view to the parking lot. When I told the lady in the reception that the view was not to the garden and asked why we would be charged the extra fee, her answer was very crude: "Technically, IT IS a view to the garden" - which was also not very nice. All in all, I felt that it was really bad value for money - which could have been better if the staff had any attention to maintenance and guest treatment; when I pay over a certain threshold for a stay, I am expecting the details in service and staff to also be good, not mediocre.

Enjoyed the variety offered and most of all, the sun drenched double volume hall.

The weather! And the pool maintenance state.

What a find - fantastic hotel oozing 20s charm. Charming staff, clean and comfortable.

The only downside of our stay was the weather!!

The hotel itself, the decoration and the staff

believe the propriety would need some improve and better use like the pool and garden area

The Palace itself is gorgeous , staff is young and friendly . Location is fantastic due to proximity to big cities, local cuisine and wine. Calm place ideal for 1/2 nights but car is necessary

Poorly managed property. Despite an amazing infrastructure , you can see that it’s a low cost management . Badly cared swimming pool , with rusty and old structures and lack of cleaning. Average restaurant at a high price point , luckily the region is very rich in great restaurants - however most of them in a short car ride distance . Rooms are renewed but feeling very much used.

I did not use pool and spa this time. The pool is outside and looks pretty good. There is also a tennis court. The hotel belongs to the "noveaux art" category of hotels. This hotel started business in 1927 by the hand and mind of a visionary man named Alexandre Almeida, who can be considered a pioneer in this business in Portugal. The breakfast is very good as well... the environment and the music in background filled in my soul. It was a very special for me and my wife. The village is very peaceful and is located in the region called Bairrada. The food is supreme in this region. e can also walking, running, and cycling around there. This hotel remains in the Almeida family, who has other emblematic hotels in the country, including the one in Bussaco, another charming place in the Bairrada region.

With many pros, I find rather difficult to mention any cons. We will come back for sure.

The bedroom was very well presented, the breakfast and dinner were amazing. The buffet is exquisite . The staff is very professional and friendly

Strange, there was no cable tv at all. We only had the 4 tv generic Portuguese channels, one italian and one spanish! This is a 4 star hotelThe indoor pool was in maintenance. The outdoor pool is absolutely incredible. I do remember swimming in it as a child 40 years ago. There have been no improvements since then. You cannot see the markings on the bottom of the pool, the diving boards have been removed, the water quality its strange, there is always leaves floating or on the bottom or on the surface, there seems to be algae due to the greenish water colour. The pool needs restoration. Nevertheless, it is a delight to.swim in this pool with 33x18 meters from the 1920's

Rooms were rooms and clean. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was ok.

Bathroom was very dated. Wifi in the rooms only when tv is Turned on !!!! Tv is access point. Never seen ! Mold on the Wall of the staircase and ceiling in hallway. The Pool is a scam ! The water was green from Algae and not clean. Pool area is dangerous with railings rusted through and electrical wiring exposed. Pool was also full of leaves. When i took some pictures an hotel employee approached asking why i was taking pictures. He then tried explaining that ph value is Fine, that cleaning the leaves was waiste of time because of the trees, that they use Mountain water. We wer there for 3 days and no customer dared enter the Pool. Pictures on booking.com of Pool are a big scam. Never seen before. Advertised as 4 stars hotel?! Not in current state of facilities and Pool area. Location very remote.

Our stay was amazing; it felt like stepping into another era. The hotel's dedication to history and preservation is evident throughout. The swimming pool and spa are incredible, and the breakfast is good. The rooms are very comfortable, making it a place where you want to stay longer and enjoy the tranquility.

Old lift did not work neither pianos. Understandable!!

The buildings and rooms 20th century architecture and aesthetics. The breakfast in the ballroom. The surrounding grounds with live animals.

We were great fans of this hotel before COVID but it seems in the past years severe cost-saving measures have been implemented, which has taken a toll on overall quality unfortunately. The outside pool was not functional dispite high season. The spa which was the main reason for our visit was not functional. The indoor pool was cold and unsuitable for bathing. We were discouraged to bathe our 2year daughter by the pool receptionist due to cold water. There was no notice for this on Booking.com and we were only notified upon arrival at the reception. When informing the staff of our insatisfaction, they were rude. We were met with a confrontational manner which is unbecoming of such a hotel. There was no minifridge in the room, but to be fair they brought a unit up upon request. Air conditioning was turned off at circuit board, some maintenance was needed in bathroom.

Looks like we get back to beginning of XX century with art nouveau design. Hotel looks like museum. Very nice atmosphere. Big and clean rooms. Good breakfast.

A very beautiful building, with an aura of long time ago. A Palace with history in it. A grand place. Very nice and helpful staff.

Mainly the fact that the external swimming pool and the Spa weren't working. I was warned in advance but still, that was the main reason for choosing that particular hotel in the first place, so disappointing... And the fact that the whole place needs repairs, especially the gardens and outside facilities. It's a pity to see.
