The Gateway Hotel

BEDS, BREAKFAST, and STAFF are excellent. A/C works well, BUT ONLY when card key is in the pocket by the room door. I thought that was for lights only, but ALL electricals STOP if you remove the key.

The tiny pictures to control the thermostat DO NOT MATCH INSTRUCTION DIAGRAMS left in a dresser drawer. Staff do NOT have correct diagrams to give you. If you take your key with you as you leave the room, plan on returning to a non-air conditioned room!

The staff were very friendly

Couldn't get booked in for a evening meal as it was fully booked but we asked at 5pm and there was loads of seating available, which I thought was poor I did try and ring and emailed during the week before I stayed to ask if we needed to book but got no reply, room was extremely cold when we first arrived, I rang reception and they sent up a lady that spoke no English to 'fix' it, thats was fine we then had to leave the hotel and go out and have a meal which we did not intend on doing as it was freeIng cold outside and we just wanted to relax in the hotel, back to the room again at 7pm still freezing cold had to shower and get dressed in a cold room is not nice when your after paying over 200euro for the hotel stay, went down to the bar for a few drinks bar staff was very friendly but the atmosphere at the bar was poor enough it being valentines night, a lady was singing which you couldn't even hear from the bar area, we went back up to room at 11pm and again room still very cold, went back to reception again a man brought up a oil filled heater and checked the heating on the panel and said it seemed to be not working but ask for another heater if we need it and just switch off panel on the wall as its only blowing cold air around our room! We the plugged in heater to find that there was no power and it wasn't working either, I gave up at this stage and just got into bed and went to sleep. Not good enough in my opinion for a 4star hotel

Staff, cleanliness and location

The room was like an icebox, twice now we have had the same issue, room absolutely freezing

Food was horrible had to order delivery and marks on walls in room staff were ignorant too definitely won’t be back

Rooms were very good size for staying with a family. The decor throughout the entire hotel was very modern and too a high standard of cleanliness. The restaurant on the ground floor served a variety of foods for breakfast, and we also ate lunch there which was very good value and tasted good. We were staying with our children and one grandparent of the children and the hotel conveniently offered us rooms with an interconnecting door which helped provide more space for the entire family. Would not hesitate to book agian.

The hotel is clean and the staff where really nice , the breakfast in the morning was top notch , definitely come here again , perhaps with no rain lol

Good location , breakfast selection is good, modern rooms and modern bar/restaurant

No fridge in the room, quite expensive for an Irish hotel, for a family of four, we were given a room with two double beds, most other hotels offer a double and two singles for family of four

Had a great time felt som comfortable and even when I was freezing they brought up a huge blanket and heater into the room

Servicepersonal need training they are helpful and willing but don't have any idea what restaurant service is.

Environment, reception, and good services

Not giving not living to your promise on free breakfast that was part of your package on your web and booking.com Too bad that it was a deceit to get clients in. And the TV wasn't working rights.

Room and bathroom were spacious. Hotel was quiet. Breakfast was excellent.

Beds could be more comfortable. Some of the furnishings seemed a bit well worn.

Staff were lovely, everything was spotlessly clean, great shower, and comfortable bed.

Pre-heated room in winter would have been nice. Found very strong smell of cleaning products when we checked into the room.

Lovely, modern, clean hotel, 10mins by taxi to centre of Dundalk. Spacious rooms & comfy beds. Jack behind reception was excellent, extremely friendly, knowledgeable & funny. He added a lot to our stay!

Room was a bit cold when I checked in but nothing major.

I really enjoyed the food in trh restaurant. It was amazing, the beds where very clean and comfortable. All the staff where a pleasure to talk with.

Staff were very nice, has basic gym and free wifi and TV systems are good.

Bathroom was disability bathroom and you couldnt really sit on the toilet as a back pad literally covered most of it. Shower was also disability and the curtains just came in on top of you when you showered. water was scorching hot no matter how far you turned it down.

Breakfast was first class with a fabulous selection for the standard Irish breakfast. Those wanting a Continental breakfast are also well catered for. Staff were friendly and extremely polite and helpful.

Absolutely no complaints about The Gateway Hotel. I would recommend to anyone visiting the County Louth area.

Staff was so nice and helpful and chatty, room was sooo comfortable. I got the best sleep of my life. Staff was also transparent about the pricing being a bit high and suggested ways I can get a lower rate next time. Amazing experience

Room was nice. Twin double beds. Very comfortable. The room was clean and tidy. A very enjoyable stay.

Room included a beautiful view of the Blackrock Beach and the morning sunrises.Beds were neatly tidy, room provided great facilities. Very clean,tidy and lots of space.

There was nothing that bothered me.Everything was in perfect condition,from the services to the cleanliness of the room!
