    • The location is good, close to Carlingford and Dundalk. The hotel is very clean with lovely grounds.
    • Great facilities, nice looking building.

    Cons -

    • Service was very slow in the bar, we waited 45 mins to get our dinner and had to ask when we would get it. Staff were apologetic and friendly, but they seemed to be very stretched on the ground.
    • The staff in general were poor.I booked an overnight stay with my wife and son and when I went to the bar for dinner, I was asked 'Did I have a reservation, and was I a resident?' Obviously I had not reserved as it would be pretty standard to be able to avail of dinner when booking an overnight stay, yet despite answering 'yes' to the resident question, the girl reacted like I was completely putting her out. She huffed and puffed, then eventually after being completely bemused, a second woman (who looked like a manger) came over to allocate a table..still the first girl looked completely put out..and eventually after several minutes of standing at the opening of the bar I was shown to an 'empty' area of the with 8 tables 'reserved' for what looked like guests. There was nobody around me! Service was extremely slow in taking the order (partly because there was nobody in that section), so much so that I had to go to the bar assuming I was to order there. Over the course of the meal, 2 of the other available tables were occupied, leaving me to question what the heck was going on initially with all the commotion earlier, with all the free capacity.Honestly, it was a bit odd and not inline with the expectation of an establishment pitching itself at the higher end of the market.
    • There could have been a bit more choice at breakfast for both hot and cold options but still what was there was very tasty.

The hotel and grounds are fantastic, they have an actual proper leisure centre too with a small but well kitted out gym. Good pool facilities.

There could have been a bit more choice at breakfast for both hot and cold options but still what was there was very tasty.

The property and grounds are beyond beautiful. Although it rained the whole time we were there, it was still breath-taking. We didn't try the restaurant, but the bar was very good. The staff were helpful, the food was delicious. The breakfast was in the lovely restaurant and it was quite the spread. All of the staff were friendly and helpful there too. The location is close enough to the Dublin airport that it was an easy drive after a red-eye flight. The golf course was beautiful, again, even in the rain.

We were very pleased with breakfast. We dined in the bar which was good except for the poor quality of the fish of the day.The staff were excellent. We love staying in the Ballymascanlon Hotel and look forward to our annual break away to the hotel. Our only complaint was the bedrooms were far too warm and made it hard to sleep. On our next visit we will request rooms that might be cooler.Overall we had a very pleasant stay.

Again the only complaint we had was that the bedrooms were far too warm and which made sleeping uncomfortable.

Really comfortably bed and lovely breakfast. The staff were so lovely and helpful. Recommend for a secluded peaceful stay.

lovely surroundings and the original house is very welcoming. Clean and spacious with very attentive staff.

We were given a room in the original house, cost was €250 for the night B&B, quite expensive. Room was COLD with no individual heating controls, apparently it's on the general central heating, so we had to wrap up. Room cleanliness was top notch and bed etc. was comfortable. The shower was spotless BUT, it took 20 mins to get hot water for a shower, I was about to give up when it slowly started to warm up, but after 20 mins ? Breakfast was delicious, however the buffet could do with being topped up more frequently.

Mutiple problems with our stay - I asked for quiet rooms and got one over the bar, where people were extremely loud until 4am. The staff was not particularly helpful with the noise issue. The shower / bath water in my parents room didn't work - they noted this was a problem at check in but said it was "fixed." It was not. I tried to contact management multiple times, in person, on the phone and via email. Management was completely unresponsive. This hotel does not have customer service that matches what you pay. The facilities are fine but if anything goes wrong you're on you're own. Front desk is unaccommodating. I was traveling with two older adults, at no point were we assisted with bags, even after calling on check out day. The cleaning lady was nice enough to help with bag exit.

The customer service needs to be on par with what is charged. Management completely unresponsive.

The pool and helpful staff. Breakfast

Food service was incredibly slow and the quality of food was very low. Did not match menu descriptions. There were two weddings on when we were there and the music was loud and other guests were noisy in the corridor during the night.

What an amazing hotel!! Staff are super nice and very helpful, food delicious and room was very cosy. Glad we booked here and will definitely be back again!!

The room was very hot but the weather was warm so will put it down to that. But that isn’t a complaint by any means.

    3CeirePosted on: 7-19-2025

The reason for the poor review is due to the lack of communication and care from staff about a lost property item that could not be located after check out

I called up about the item and also got a friend to call in after no one even reached out to say whether the dress had or had not been located. I had booked 4 rooms via booking.com spent a fortune. The trip included our parents for our wedding celebration, we had been going between the rooms and I had left the black Kookai dress behind the door in bathroom of 119. Both parents seen it when using the bathroom but everyone thought someone else had taken it, our mistake yea however it wasn't until the next day when I went to unpack that it was missing. It's quite clear the dress was either stolen or thrown out. So disappointed considering the amount spent.Upset not to even get a follow up considering the high rating of this hotel, lack of customer care is absolutely astonishingly bad.Left a bad taste in this establishment and doubt me or my family would return.

Great breakfast included as was the free use of the pool, sauna, steam room and outdoor Jacuzzi. Bar food excellent....

The Leisure Centre was very nice, clean and well maintained. The staff were all very friendly. The hotel, in general, was very clean and nicely decorated. The room is nice and modern.

The room was very warm. It should have an aircon and a mini fridge. The menu in the restaurant and bar are very limited. I don't play golf, but the golf course looked beautiful. It would be nice if there was a pitch and putt course too.

The ambience and the staff were lovely

    Beautiful property

Restaurant food very poor. My beef main was cold, tough and unpleasant. Had to return very disappointed. Breakfast at 9.30 was busy. Lots of empty containers/ displays. No clean glassware. Slow to refill. ?

    8MichaelPosted on: 4-26-2025

Breakfast was excellent.Bar food was very overpriced. €23 for a burger, and €18 for a bowl of pasta and sauce.Fantastic pool and jacuzzi

The housekeeping staff walked straight into our room at 10.05 am without knocking or excusing themselves.Unacceptable to say the least. Checkout wasn't until 12 noon..... what was the rush?
