About

De Ville is a charming hotel located in a picturesque medieval village with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. It features free Wi-Fi and fine dining with renowned regional specialties. Set in a chalet building, rooms at Hôtel de Ville have been recently renovated and retain traditional wooden features. They all include a TV set with cable channels and private bathrooms with bath or shower. Gruyères is a Swiss culinary Mecca, thanks to its renowned cheese; guests of the hotel can enjoy authentic cheese delicacies, served at the restaurant. Those include Gruyère quiche, raclette and fondue. Bulle and Pringy Train Stations are just 1.2 mi away from de Ville hotel and popular nearby attractions include Gruyères Castle. There is paid communal parking from 8:30 am to 6 pm at the entrance of the village (electric vehicle charging possible at P3). Depending on the time of your arrival and departure, we have a preferential price of CHF 10.- for 24 hours (to be picked up at the reception).

    Pros +

    • Nice hotel in the middle of Gruyeres. The breakfast was good.
    • Humble but authentic room.Comfortable bed, in room refrigerator.Amazing view out window.Amazing location!
    • Great room in the heart of the town of Gruyeres, with a view to the main square, and also the amazing scenery from the back bedroom window. Delicious breakfast downstairs at the restaurant.

    Cons -

    • As a tourist location it is somewhat strange that nobody in the Hotel spoke English.
    • Expensive even in off season. No hot water or maker available for coffee/tea
    • This is not hotel-specific: if you can, I’d suggest avoiding an overnight stay inside the Gruyères enclave. Parking is limited to paid lots outside the village, prices are high, and there isn’t much to do that you couldn’t enjoy just as well on a day visit. As for the hotel itself, my only real criticism is the breakfast. The selection was very limited and the quality left something to be desired. You’re probably better off spending your euros on breakfast elsewhere.

Very clean and comfortable and centrally located. Extremely quiet at night for a great night’s rest.

Lovely hotel situated in the heart of Gruyere. From the room we stayed in we had fabulous views of the valley and hills beyond. The staff are very kind and helpful.

Nice enough: The hotel is located in the heart of the Gruyères enclave, which can be both a blessing and a drawback (more on that below). The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, and the beds were comfortable, no issues there. What follows is more advice for future tourists than criticism of the hotel itself:

When we arrived in the afternoon the hotel restaurant and terrace was packed with tourists and the staff was extremely busy. Despite this Jasmin and Victoria found time to welcome us and to have us checked in eventually. Our rooms was extremely large, locaed on the third floor with view of the inner part and the fountain of Gruyere. Water pressure and hot water supply was excellent. There is even a lift to the third floor, which makes for a very comfortable stay.. We can recommend this hotel for one night stay to experience this quaint village after all the tourists have gone.

My fondue for dinner was not the best I ever had. Not sure what kind of cheese was for Moite-Moite. There was not a single piece of garlic inside, nor a little Kirsch. Ok but could be improved.

The location was in the main square. It wasn't noisy as the place isn't very big and it appeared some groups came for the day.

The bed squeaked badly. It appeared to be the cross beams that the mattress rests on. Had we stayed more than one night, we would have asked for another room.It also would have been nice to have fans in the room.

An experience to stay here, an amazing historic town, and the place is right by the old fort walls. The food was phenomenal.

    Breakfast could be better.

The view from the back bedroom was the only good thing about this property.

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. First check in was from 2pm, we arrived after 2pm and the room had not been cleaned so all we could do was drop our bags and leave. I don’t think the floors were mopped as our socks were dirty after we walked on the floor The hotel - if you can call it that is disorganized and run by what seems inexperienced young people. There is no reception, just a table in the restaurant. The sofa bed mattress is uncomfortable and lumpy. The pillows are completely flat and grainy, I don’t think they have been changed since the hotel did the renovation. On top of that they could not provide any other pillows so we slept on the mattress alone. There is no ac and no fans which makes the room very stuffy and uncomfortable- we tried to sleep with the windows open but the noise from the town square and little area between the castle walls has people in it until close to midnight so no chance of sleeping. Further you can hear every step from upstairs - again no sleeping. The breakfast is very average and limited compared to everywhere else we have stayed in Europe. This is such a disappointing experience considering the cost, location and the history of the building. I do not recommend staying here.

The location is magical. The rusty room with authentic wooden furniture.

    Small bathroom and weak internett

    9RamPosted on: 5-29-2025

The location is right on the castle premises. The room is amazing with nice views of the pastures and mountains.

Breakfast options for vegetarians were very limited. The bread was hard. A few more options (that we have seen in other hotels in Swiss) would have helped.

Wonderful location, very cozy room, good croissants.

    9JoanaPosted on: 3-23-2025

The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. We arrived 15min before the kitchen closed but the chef prepared us dishes from scratch with no reservations. The apartment is lovely and in the center of the castle walls in a very nice medieval town.

Hotel with beautiful views and well located. Room with rustic style but lovely, extremely comfortable bed. Friendly staff.

    9JacquelinePosted on: 2-5-2025

Very relaxed, friendly staff.Excellent breakfast.Warm bedroom with comfortable bedding and pleasant rustic look.

    5MichaelPosted on: 1-27-2025

It's a convenient location right next to the entrance of Gruyères, rooms were clean and spacious enough.

I was bitten all over my body really badly by some bug while sleeping. The beds were also incredibly uncomfortable and noisy. Any movement we made created loud creaking and we kept waking each other up. The pillows were also pretty much non existent, like flat pieces of cloth on the bed.

    8MarinaPosted on: 1-26-2025

The food provided was ok. But on the table there was a fork and a knife. No spoon for my boiled egg and no eggcups . There was pepper but no salt. I had to ask for what was missing. They did not even ask me if I wanted milk for my coffee.

The room was impeccably clean and comfortable. But with no charm. The entrance, stairs etc are really not attractive.

This hotel was extremely basic, it was uncomfortable and very noisy.

    Nothing we left

    10KyliePosted on: 12-28-2024

The apartment was amazing, brand new, had everything we needed, the view was breathtaking, staff were so helpful, walking around the village was so beautiful, little shops, food and drink, visited the castle and the alien museam and walked around, the snow was just the icing in the cake, cannot express in words how amazing this place is

    Nothing!
