About

This historic hotel is in the center of Grünwald. It offers free parking as well as panoramic views of the Isar valley from the terrace and rooms. The Schlosshotel Grünwald was built in 1293 as a hunting lodge. As a hotel, it now offers modern rooms and suites which have been finished with light-wood furnishings and bright colors. The restaurant of the Schlosshotel Grünwald features a traditional tiled oven. A variety of Mediterranean-inspired dishes are served here. The terrace is open during the summer, and features wonderful views of the surroundings. Munich is about 7.5 mi north of Grünwald. Höllriegelskreuth S-Bahn (city rail) station is just a 15-minute walk from the hotel. From here, Marienplatz square can be reached directly in 26 minutes.

    Cons -

    • Lack of elevator Shower smelled and was not clean when we arrivedWindow was defective and could not be operated properlyThe hallway carpet had large and appeared dirty in many areas .
    • There is no elevator, the rooms and bathrooms are a bit old, and the sheets are a little short, but these details are hardly noticeable, and the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

You wouldn't expect a good and pleasant hotel so far from the center of Munich, but this experience was so enjoyable that I didn't mind the 40-minute tram ride from the main station. The surroundings are perfect: a great view from the restaurant terrace, calm and cozy accommodations, a nearby riverbank, and forests so massive that you can't help but admire the nature around you.

There is no elevator, the rooms and bathrooms are a bit old, and the sheets are a little short, but these details are hardly noticeable, and the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

Very beautiful Hotel a bit outside from the city. Pleasant landscape nearby with lots of cycle paths. Structure is in old and fashionable style with very comfortable rooms. Breakfast rich and tasteful

    Nothing to remark

Breakfast, friendly staff, nice shower cabin, nice pillows on bed.

Ok, I had booked a 'single' room, but the bed was like some cod in an evacuation center. Twin mattress, no fitted sheet, but flat, and since I toss and turn, I ended up laying on the plain mattress within an hour, plus the bed squeaked at every turn I did.

    Friendly stuff, good peacefull location

Old rooms, poor or even without AC, old worn beds

It's the second time we're staying here. And again, it was amazing! The hotel has its own atmosphere - that's why we were back! The staff and the room were very good! The restaurant is amazing! We were very pleased that the waiter recognised us ? the location is quite far from Munchen but its a very calm and peaceful place with amazing castle next to the hotel and view to the river. I'm sure we'll get back to the hotel again!

A bit slow internet... the only minus that we noticed

    10KarolynPosted on: 2-22-2024

The hotel is beautiful and a great location. Easy walk to tram to the train into Munich but away from the hustle and bustle. The food was excellent. The room was large and comfortable for my family.

Very nice location, next to Grünwald Castle, overviewing the Isar river, lots of greenery around.Rooms are equipped with beautiful furniture.Breakfast is served in the Restaurant (Italian) and of course there’s fantastic coffee, plus eggs on order, and a small but nice buffet.

The mattresses should be replaced, also there’s two separate mattresses in the King sized bed, which come apart, there’s room for improvement there.

    6NikorePosted on: 1-15-2024

Great location, helpful staff. Room was spacious and acceptably clean. Breakfast included in room rate, and served fresh eggs made to order.

Breakfast choices were rather limited, and also the refrigerated foods (ham etc.) weren't kept properly cool. The rooms weren't soundproofed at all, there was a lot of noise from other guests. Hotel parking was small and we had to park up the street when we arrived in the evening.

Very nice restaurant . Very good break fast with real scramble eggs made on demand!

A little bit old fashioned decoration and condition but very clean

    7AnnePosted on: 11-15-2023

Very homely feeling, I love old houses! My single room on the second floor was very comfortable with tv, minibar and comfortable bed. Perfect for one night’s stay. The pizza in the restaurant was excellent.

It is too old-fashioned and really needs to be renovated. It has the charm of an old villa, but all the furniture is old and not really clean.

    10Larry G.Posted on: 10-22-2023

The charm, location and staff off the hotel was excellent.

    Shower water pressure was substandard.

    9JadePosted on: 10-19-2023

Great location in terms of view across the forest, and close to tram stop. Restaurant with hotel served delicious food. Shower was powerful, bed was comfortable

Rooms very dated, but you could say this is the appeal as the hotel was a hunting lodge and is straight out of a Bavarian fairytale. Staff were not super accommodating, failed to explain how breakfast works.

    8AlisaPosted on: 10-2-2023

Staff was extrememly helpful and breakfast was delicious.

-The property is in need of updating - carpet, artwork, and furniture are dated, stained, and tired.-We booked the property because of its outdoor space - the patio in particular. We are from Texas and were shocked that they closed the outdoors because it was "too cold" at 55 or 60 degrees- in GERMANY! -Not a great place to stay during Oktoberfest. It was very difficult to get taxis this far away from the city center.

Complimentary Breakfast. Great Italian restaurant for lunch/dinner, location

    hot water pressure not good

The Schlosshotel is a historical and charming destination in a quiet neighborhood that also provides a clean and comfortable room. The front desk staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. I can't say enough good things about them. We also appreciated the attached restaurant. Good food and good service there.

    10MaguirePosted on: 9-13-2023

Everything was perfect. The waiter greated us by name every morning for breakfast, which was superb. The on-site italian restaurant was also very nice, offering an excellent choice. Our suite was very comfortable. We would definitely stay again.

The hotel is very central if you are visiting Grunwald and the surrounding area and it is next to Grunwald castle. There is a tram (#25) two blocks away from the hotel that takes you to the Munich town centre in 40 minutes . There is no lift facilities so if your room is on the second floor then you need to climb a lot of stairs. My window had beautiful views of the river but I was working from my room and it didn't have a desk so it was uncomfortable to work.

Don't choose this hotel if you are staying during the summer season as there is no air conditioning, they provided a fan but the fan was circulating the hot air around the room so did't help at all. The breakfast room is nice as it is on the restaurant that has Michelin rating but the last day I had breakfast there, the orange juice was off and the fruit salad had a lot of mosquitoes and flies around as they don't cover the fruit salad at all and neither the bread.
