    Pros +

    • Building and rooms were clean & modern looking. Good lighting in the room and bath. Good breakfast and a small bar in the lobby. Reasonable price in the off-season. The motel is located about a mile west of the downtown area, an easy walk but not in the thick of things. It overlooks the pool prominently pictured in their offer, and the river and vineyards and hills on the far side of the Duoro River.
    • Great staff and wonderful breakfast. All in all an excellent value. If you’re driving in the Douro River Valley for a couple of days, this could be the perfect hub.
    • Been here before. Nice to have parking

    Cons -

    • There is a lot be be desired here. First, the pool is featured in the pictures and there was no indication it would not be available during my trip. But it was behind a fence, cold, and unmaintained (yet visible from our room as a tease). Second, there is a closet in the room, but otherwise no place to put your luggage. Third, the walls are thin and we endured activities in an adjoining room until late at night. Fourth, the bathroom had no counter space at all. The bathtub was 20" wide and only 4' long. I'm 6' tall and couldn't easily get up from the tub, and splashed water all over. Worse, the hotel is not at all safety conscious. There were no safety bars in the tiny bath tho they are badly needed. And the hotel makes a habit of propping the fire doors on the stair wells open, defeating their purpose. Were there a fire during our stay on the 4th floor, we'd have been burnt marshmallows.
    • The location is not ideal for a traveler without a car since the location is not central. That said (typed), I made it work for me inspite of the walking distance to the train/bus terminal in Regua. Portugal’s uneven sidewalks are not conducive to a rolling suitcase except for short stretches.
    • Unfortunately the hotel cut all the trees down in the parking lot so now the place looks like a prison. No curb appeal. The trees added a bit of charm and welcoming atmosphere. They say they needed to for construction. Quite the lie. Steps could have been taken so the trees remain. Now not an attractive feature for staying at this hotel so next time best to stay elsewhere. What were they thinking. Don’t they understand people return and recommend places that are attractive with ambiance

Pool was really nice and BIG. Breakfast was good. A nice river walk.

Not a lot to do nearby.

Everything was very good for 2 star hotel.

No room in bathroom. Noisy outside.

staff was friendly, room was nice

pool was not operational and a big part of why i booked

Parking great. Reasonable breakfast. Rooms small and very noisy. Walls paper thin heard everything going on in next rooms. Snoring and talking from neighboring rooms kept us awake all night. Would not recommend if staying for leisure more suited to local corporate market.

Noise from adjoining rooms. Hotel was under construction so wasn’t a welcoming environment.

Excellent quality breakfast , views of the hills and river from our room. Town felt built up on arrival , but the benefits quickly outweighed my initial impression!

    9MichalPosted on: 4-12-2025

Unbeatable price/quality ratio. Good location, easy to find, good breakfast for this price

    All was fine.

    8RosePosted on: 4-12-2025

    Friendly staff, excellent breakfast.

Small bedroom and hotel very much needing an upgrade. Just fresh air in corridors and general refreshing needed. Beds not particularly comfortable.

    10ShirleyPosted on: 4-1-2025

I was very impressed with this hotel. Modern, clean, in a good area. Free parking. Excellent breakfast . Bar . Comfy beds and extremely nice staff. All at an incredibly cheap price. I would certainly return.

Ease of access and parking. Helpfulness of all staff.

Very busy and so often had to wait for items at breakfast, but the food itself was excelllent.

Excellent hotel, clean and comfortable and good location although poor weather meant we were a little limited in what we were able to do.

Hotel Columbano is a quiet and pleasant place with small but nice rooms. The breakfast was simple, and while the pool was closed for winter, it offers lovely views, making it a great spot to visit in summer.

    10Jay P.Posted on: 1-5-2025

Location, breakfast, free parking, cleanliness, WiFi

A kettle in the room would be good for the cold weather. And also glasses in the room as opposed to plastic cups that were provided.

    8RachelPosted on: 1-1-2025

Property has exceptional value for the area! Pedro (who works the night shift) also goes above and beyond for guests. I had noticed my room was still pretty cold with having the heat on and he immediately switched me to a room close by. The TVs have HDMI connections, WiFi was strong enough, the beds were comfortable, it was quiet for the most part, breakfast was an extended continental—lots of different breads, yogurt, cereal, and fruit and it was a 35-40 minute easy walk to the train station with a Lidl 5 min walk away.

Not a real complaint, but would have loved a more balanced meal over bread and fruit, but truly am grateful for it at cost so not a true complaint. The keys are so cumbersome and loud when opening doors in the hallway it wakes people. Some better care to the shower cleanliness as there were quite a few hairs around.
