Pros +
- Old small but nicely updated rooms, excellent breakfast, welcoming lobby.
- The desk upgraded our room to what I'd characterize as a small apartment -- and a lovely (!) one, at that. The location is perfect for access to the train and walks about town (which is quite small). The breakfast buffet was the best (!) that I've ever encountered. So much to choose from, and all that I chose was superb. The lobby is excellent, and the staff are terrific. Last, the hotel is pristine -- room, corridors, lobby, dining areas. This is a very fine hotel.
- Location is stellar. Breakfast spread was pretty good.
Cons -
- Short on parking space.
- The adjoining sports bar is rather sad in appearance and upkeep.
- No AC so slept with windows open in July (was still a bit warm).

Amal cute town. We had just started our drive from east to west so this was a welcome stay. The staff were super friendly and helpful and we are at the restaurant for dinner and it was to die for. We did the 4-course dinner and it was set in their romantic and candle lit dining experience was everything we could have asked for. We went at the end of August so it was pretty dead considering it a winter destination, but it was perfect for us as we were driving through there to continue our journey.
Breakfast was outstanding! Room itself was very nice and loved the historical nature of the building. Amazed at the size of this hotel! Sports bar had very good food ( had dinner during our stay) and the staff was very courteous.
Bathroom was very small but somewhat understandable with the age (1909) of the building and the difficulty of plumbing installations in these older structures.
Location
Small room and not what I booked. I booked a Mountain View or courtyard view and got a parking lot looking into another unit
The food was incredible! Loved the bowling alley and pool table in the sports facility!
Comfortable beds. Good breakfast.
Shower tiles should be cleaned/renovated. Given room on 1st floor with backyard with containers by our window. Disappointed as we had come from a fabulous hotel the previous day.
Located directly across from the train station, this is a grand old hotel with a lot of charm. I loved roaming the halls, looking at the photos, and reading up on the history of the property as a sanitarium and during WWII. Hiking up the mountains behind the hotel provides breathtaking views. The single room, though small, was very cozy and the bed was comfortable. A variety of cold and hot foods was on offer at the breakfast buffet. Last, but not least, the staff was very helpful and courteous.
As an older building, it’s definitely got its musty odors and dank corridors.
Beautiful old hotel with very spacious rooms and very clean.Very friendly staff.
The attached sports bar was kind of “dated” but the food there was good.
It’s an adequate place for budget minded travelers. One should not have high expectations as it’s derived from an old building not to modern standards. It gets the job done.
Excellent breakfast, nice location.
Tiny bathroom with strong sewerage smell
I arrived an hour before my estimated check-in time and was kindly allowed to enter without any issues. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, which made the experience even more pleasant. Excellent service from the very beginning—I would definitely come back without hesitation.
Honestly, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like. Everything went smoothly and exceeded my expectations
It was a busy hotel with lots going on over Easter, i did request a quiet room and got one that was quite. There is options for entertainment from a band area, a sports bar and a bowling alley. you could pick what you wanted. I would recommend this place.
It was very busy over Easter
Well situated. Very good breakfast. Many comfortable seating areas with superb views. Good Wi-Fi. We had a most enjoyable meal at the Sports Bar restaurant with suitable game for kids.
Poor bedroom lighting. Slippery floors in swimming pool area. Needing to run the hot tap so long (wastefully) before use.
Did not have breakfast
Noise from partying guests. Vomiting,
Nice staff, activities in the area (50 meters to ski slopes, bowling, swimming pool)
Not super modern room and no ventilation, however French balcony open gave fresh air
Location is lovely, on the bottom of the slopes, nice view, great swimming pool with jacuzzi inside and outside on the terrace, delicious breakfast, great interior full of history and art
It’s evident that the hotel is old and requires renovation. We had an old room but I believe renovation is happening these days and hopefully it will be better in the future. There is only one main elevator that you sometimes have to wait for several minutes. There are no kettle and tea coffee in the room which I would say is expected in a hotel like this. It would also be nice if the room is equipped with a better hairdryer, slippers and bathrobes. Overall it was quite dusty in the room and we didn’t have any cleaning over our period of stay (2 nights).
Good Norwegian spread of breakfast and a nice cooked selection of bacon, eggs and Mushrooms. Great bread and selection of cold meats and cheeses. Public areas are a bot 'modern' in an old building but fine. Fire side seating was nice but only 2 locations... Al la carte dining was excellent and the waiting staff fabulous.
Small cups and glasses. Fried eggs could have been cooked to order... Spa was a little sparse... Room cleaning was a tad hap hazard and we had to ask to get it done.
Great buffet and sauna and outdoor hottub, plus walkable to train station and ski school
