About

A former manor house dating back to the 18th century, this ivy-clad residence has been totally refurbished to provide the warmth of a country home with the style of a luxury hotel. Located in the center of the attractive medieval town of Ennis, County Clare, the hotel provides an ideal starting point from which to explore the famous attractions of Ireland's west coast. The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Caves and Bunratty Folk Park are all within easy reach, while Connemara and the Aran Islands provide spectacular options for day trips. In the evenings, while admiring the views of the pretty winding streets of Ennis and the rugged beauty of County Clare and the West of Ireland beyond, you can relax by the warmth of the blazing fire inside the Old Ground Hotel.

I love the gorgeous, cosy reception rooms with blazing fire - so welcoming. The bar serves a lovely menu and is also super welcoming. Staff are exceptional and accommodating. The bed was super comfy, and the bathroom was updated with lovely decor.

We walked in the drive with the large trees and were welcomed by a lovely bustle of people sitting in the foyer having a drink. The room was warm and reception staff were lovely. Our room was so clean and calm. Beds were new and pillows fluffy. Bathroom was lovely. Missed the bath but that's a small thing shower was huge. Went down foendinner and drinks to be welcomed by a lovely team of servers and buss biys/girls. Live trad music for more than 2 hours. Slept like a princess and had breakfast in the room. Small mix up.with the card order but was no bother to sort out. Easy friendly and nothing was a bother. Loved it.

Car park was full but plenty of parking nearby.

The old ground hotel is very dear to us. The setting and location are top notch. Unfortunately we couldn’t get a table for dinner, but we will be back

Beautifully decorated old charm. Easy walk from train station. Very close to town center. Very good breakfast.

Lift was not working. Difficult getting luggage to room. Front desk said it was three steps to our room. Nope. It was up three short flights and down one flight. Luckily a maid helped us. Shower was difficult to get in and out of.

Location and historical feel about it

Parking spaces but only a minor issue

    9CatherinePosted on: 1-24-2026

We found the staff very helpful and friendly. We had a problem in our first room and we were moved immediately. Room was comfortable, breakfast was lovely and the Town Hall restaurant was a lovely experience.

    Improvement in TV channels.

    9AliPosted on: 1-22-2026

Location was great, in the centre of the town. Room was big and beds were comfortable. Nice bar and lounge area.

The team at the Old Ground Hotel have perfected hospitality, while remaining human and friendly. The facilities are gorgeous, and it's very easy to get to, from various relevant bus stops.

    7SharonPosted on: 1-20-2026

The breakfast was excellent. The room was very comfortable

Our bed room had a leak in the floor and we were unaware the musty smell from the carpet was from the bahroom. It took a couple of days but we were upgraded the last day of our stay.

    9MadeleinePosted on: 1-19-2026

The breakfast was excellent, a great variety and a good location to the town.

We enjoyed our stay, and everything was lovely, the only thing, the furniture in the reception area could be updated.

Great location, Bedrooms spacious, beds very comfortable, amenities very good - coffee machine, fridge with water. staff very friendly and helpful

Outside lights in courtyard area left on all night resulting in room not being dark - the light came into the roomNot a cat person

    8JohnPosted on: 1-12-2026

    Good atmosphere.

Needs a little attention. Painting/ work/ decorating. Lifts extremely noisy. Door opening onto giant fusebox where kids could electrocute themselves.

    10ShawnaaPosted on: 1-10-2026

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful! Barbara in particular in reservations went above and beyond for us with our booking when we had to amend our booking due to a friend of ours having to cancel last minute with a family emergency
