Pros +
- Best scenic location and it?s close to the conference venue.
- It had beautiful views but it seems to have become a venue for corporate meetings.
- There was 1 very small girl that was very nice to us.
Cons -
- No restaurant. Pools not open. No blanket on the bed which made it chilly sleeping. Beds are very firm.
- 1 pillow, bad bed, small comforter, no heat, rude man and women manager at front desk. No restaurant, just cold breakfast buffet, (coffee machine only) no pool- only used as water feature. Hotel in general seemed like it was used mostly for wedding venues.
- I could have had a better room, not an Attico/Mansard room. But honestly it was not a problem. The hotel was booked up and I know they gave us the best available room. We found that we really only slept in the room and spent a majority of our time out and enjoying the property including the Wonderful Pool, Castel Gandolfo, Grottoferratta, Frascati, and the Papal Palace. There really is no negative to be honest.

Asked for a room with a view and we got one. It was a Mansard/Attic-style room, so looking out the window was only possibly sitting on the bed. But it was still acceptable. We spent most of our time out at the lovely pool and in town eating and exploring the sights. The breakfast is typical Italian breakfast and also had options for Americans who did not want to embrace being Italian for their stay. Coffee machine was outstanding. Staff were well-dressed, well-mannered and very friendly. We felt so at home here. Hotel Castel Vecchio has become our Villa on the Lake. Can't say enough good things about the staff. We had a flawless visit!! We will be back!!

The view from the hotel was gorgeous, and it was a quick walk to the downtown area. The breakfast spread was also very nice. A few of the workers were helpful.
Two male, middle-aged men at the hotel were really unhelpful. One on occasion, we were stranded at the Castel Gandolfo train station late at night, not realizing we wouldn't be able to get an uber or a bus at that time, and we contacted the hotel. Even though we were only probably a five-minute drive down the road for them, the guy at the front desk didn't send anybody to come get us. The most he did was send us a phone number for a taxi driver they use, who wasn't available at the time. We told him this, and he basically said, "Too bad." Eventually we saw somebody else successfully get an Uber, and asked that Uber driver to come back for us, which is how we got to the room. When we got there, the guy behind the front desk said, "You're lucky you got a cab," and I felt like saying, "No thanks to you." Furthermore, the fire alarm needlessly went off three times throughout our short stay there, disrupting everybody in the hotel...twice at around 6 am in the morning and once at midnight for abut 15 minutes. That third time, I didn't even see anybody at the front desk trying to take care of the issue until it had already been going for about five minutes. It just felt like very careless and negligent service.
Absolutely perfect, quite, picturesque place. On the hill, overseeing the Albano lake.Clean, very friendly people, high standard of service.I am travelling 100 nights a year for over 20 years. One of the places I strongly recommend
The town is perched on a hilltop , overlooking the picturesque lake albano . The hotel is on the same ridge benefitting the view and tranquility. I love hotels that were "done once, done well" even though the design is dated , it exudes quality. Marvellous breakfast.
I was there on the 21st April 2025, my birthday , sadly , I'll always remember it for the passing away of the Pontiff.
Breakfast, room and view excellent and staff friendly and educated
Nothing all was good
The staff is very friendly and helped us cancel one night, which we really appreciated. The location is great, fantastic view especially in the morning sun and a few minutes walk from the town.
The style was not really our taste, it felt a bit cold overall. We had wrongly assumed that the indoor pool was in use. The room feels quite small.
Location beautiful overlooking the lake , staff were excellent and breakfast lovely to have on the balcony in the sun. Easy walkTo town . Nice and quiet
Parking
Staff not very helpful reserving diner reservations…on site restaurant closed.
the location fantastic views. great breakfast roomlots of terraces to sit on some with great views. good location for airport.
bed not v comfy. incredibly small shower tiny.
View of lake was wonderful
As many other reviews have said, Hotel Castel Vecchio is not at all 4 star worthy. In fact it was fabulously disappointing. Our room was the dingiest little broom closet imaginable, with a tiny window overlooking a car park. We were promptly woken at 9 by a cleaner bashing a few times on the door and barging in.The only coffee at breakfast came from a self-service machine; and it was astonishingly bad. The food was barely better: a few pieces of an old apricot tart, some dried up bread rolls, dispensers of sweet squash, bland slices of ham and cheese (think Iceland maxi-pack) etc.. Staff are smiley, and happy to give directions around the hotel. But the kind of service you might expect from 4 stars is really not here — when we were checking out, for example, we asked whether a taxi could be called — the receptionist simply gestured towards a telephone number…Needless to say parting was not bittersweet. We would strongly advise giving Castel Vecchio a miss.
Beautiful hotel, with gorgeous lake views, and a pool with lounge chairs. Excellent breakfast, free parking and professional staff. Steps from the historical centre of Castel Gandolfo.
Everything was perfect.
Excellent location and lake view! Staff were very kind and helpful.
The carpark has some steep sections to manoeuvre!
Lovely staff. Great location and spectacular views.
Shame the restaurant wasn’t working while we were there.
The balcony that connected our rooms, the size of the rooms, and the stunning views. We thoroughly enjoyed the elegance of the hotel, our balconies that expanded our space and allowed us to easily gather together privately, the staff was incredibly helpful and kind and took care of all our needs, and the views were stunning.
Shower was on the small side.
The location was amazing and the staff was very helpful with tips on how to get to Rome and restaurant suggestions. The bed was comfortable and despite the 38 degrees outside, the room was cool.
Breakfast could improve for the price point and expected better coffee during breakfast.
Excellent views, good location, lots of parking, roof top pool was great, staff were lovely. Excellent value for money.
Shower was small, the room was a bit dusty, the toilet was positioned very close to the sink, not ideal if you're tall.
Good quality breakfast, how friendly the staff was, how helpful the staff was, the hotel was clean and had an amazing framework. Overall good experience.
