About

Set on a hill boasting views of the terraced vineyards of the UNESCO World Heritage Douro valley and the Douro River, this newly renovated 19th century manor house offers guests therapeutic spa retreats, wine tastings and a mirror-effect outdoor infinity pool. Enfolded by a philosophy of creating experiences while concerning about the environment in which it is inserted, Six Senses Douro Valley combines elegance with the reality and history of the region, boasting a décor based on natural materials such as wood and stone. Rooms at the Six Senses feature contemporary interiors, are air-conditioned, have a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a private bathroom with bath, a rain shower and free toiletries. At the Wine Library guests will find more than 750 references of vintages from the region, collected by two wine directors, and a variety of tapas and cheeses to complement the wine tastings. The hotel’s Vale Abraão restaurant combines 3 ambiances, including an open kitchen, a wood burning stove and a fine dining, offering guests gourmet and international cuisine delights. A varied buffet breakfast including sweet and savory dishes is served each morning. The 8-hectare property covers a number of relaxing and meditation open-air areas in the surrounding woods, as well as an organic garden of vegetables and herbs. Wellness and Yoga programs are available and the Six Senses Spa has 10 treatment rooms and offers a variety of therapies, some of which are grape and wine based. Guests can also relax in the heated indoor pool with water jets, aromatic saunas, arctic showers and soft waterbeds, or retire to the library and peruse a book whist enjoying a fine wine or a cocktail. A gym with professional guidance is also at guests’ disposal. Guest Experience Makers are available to guarantee guests a unique experience. The Six Senses Douro Valley is 78.9 miles from Porto International Airport.

    Pros +

    • Everything- food, accommodations, service, property
    • Breakfast, spa and room are all good. We were unlucky for the bad weather. Price wise, it's a little over the price, comparing to other resorts in the world. But, the service and staff were very nice and warm.
    • The hotel and grounds were beautiful. Hand down one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. The staff in the bar area was great and our dinner was amazing.

    Cons -

    • Absolutely nothing
    • The breakfast was not traditional. Would have liked a couple of more traditional options but they did accomodate. We asked them to make us potatoes to go with our eggs and they did. We were happy with that.
    • For a location that promotes itself as a wellness service, it is unacceptable to host noisy parties that disturb guests in the middle of the night.Although the hotel is beautiful, the rooms are far below the level they are promoted at. However, we appreciate the manager's efforts to offer us another room after we reported the issues in the initial room.

We booked a room with a river view for one reason we wanted a balcony. In the pictures that appear in the booking, you see a room with a balcony. In fact, they don't get a room with a balcony. When we arrived at the hotel, they greeted us with a very nice reception and offered us the room without a balcony, and if we want, we have the option of paying another 400 euros per night and we will get a suite. We refused to pay. After I checked the reservation and saw that there is a deception to the public that they show a room with a balcony in the booking and that is not what we received. I contacted them with a complaint and then they offered us to move to a room with a balcony. I was angry that they didn't offer the possibility to receive what was originally ordered but they apologized and had nothing to say about it.. Apart from the room problem. I would like to point out that the hotel is amazing in its beauty. The hotel staff provides excellent service. And we had a lot of fun. The room thing gave us a very bad feeling. And I will contact the management of six on the subject as well.. There is no explanation in the booking that there are several types of rooms, some with a balcony and some without. It's not right. And before guests are offered to pay another 400 euros per night, the public's deception on the booking should be answered.. and give a solution to the customer that does not cost 400 euros per night.. After we had already paid an expensive rate for an upgraded room with a balcony.

the breakfast was exceptional. we appreciated all of the healthy and delicious options.the rooms and common spaces were lovely.property grounds exquisite.staff were extremely attentive and helpful. We very much enjoyed the managers cocktails and speaking w/ the gentleman when choosing our wines by the glass in the tasting room.

the gym was nice but too small.additional elevators would be helpful.

I recently stayed at Sin Sexes Hotel in Douro, and it was an unforgettable experience. The breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape were absolutely stunning, making every moment feel like a dream. The bed was extremely comfortable, providing a perfect night's sleep, and the spa facilities were top-notch, offering a truly relaxing retreat. The breakfast was delicious, with a variety of options to suit all tastes. Additionally, the proximity to local wineries was a fantastic bonus. The wines we tasted were exceptional, adding to the overall charm of our stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any requests and ensure we had a pleasant stay.I highly recommend Sin Sexes Hotel for anyone looking for a luxurious and serene getaway in Douro. It truly exceeded all our expectations.

Exceptional breakfast, wine cellar and spa facilities. Would have been great to have more communal quiet spaces, perhaps a library or smoking room to play board games etc.

The steps in the bedroom are badly designed and we constantly tripped up them. I stubbed my foot so badly during the night I had to call for medical assistance.

Great location hotel pool and staff

A lot of nickle and dime with several email before we arrived to make sure we booked BBQ wine tasting and DJ for 145€ per person. Should go down the route of ClubMed and include all the activities for free or at a reduced cost and 50€ per person for breakfast excessive to say the least

    9AndreaPosted on: 8-17-2023

Excellent spa/therapists, lots of activities available(some free/others not)

Hotel was full so often no free pool loungers

    9HilaryPosted on: 8-17-2023

Stunning location and great many activities included in the stay

The bath in the middle of the room/waste of space - would prefer a private bathroom

    10ChrisPosted on: 8-15-2023

Probably the most impressive hotel we've stayed in when considered as a package (building, gardens, views, staff, facilities, food, activities, etc). It doesn't come cheap, but in our opinion absolutely worth it as a special treat. The activity programme was excellent (cooking classes, wine tours, spa treatments), the staff has been trained to the highest standard (many in nearby Lamego) and the vineyard/river setting was extremely relaxing. Very special

One (very minor) gripe was being told c.6pm one evening that the pool bar had closed, when several people incl. ourselves were still relaxing there before dinner. In any other hotel I'd say "whatever", but the standards at this one are so high that I'm providing the feedback because otherwise it was faultless

    10EllaPosted on: 8-13-2023

Excellent breakfast, polite good looking staff, many variants of activities. We liked tile painting and macramé.

wasps in an outdoor restaurant. we understand that this is a natural phenomenon but it is very annoying

    amazing location, facilities and service

the food was just ok and too expensive for its value

    10MattPosted on: 5-3-2023

Beautiful hotel, stunning setting and landscaping, all amenities you can imagine, did not feel crowded at all (enough space for everyone), excellent staff & service, delicious breakfast

    10MaximPosted on: 3-26-2023

First Six Senses we visited in Europe, we have not been disappointed. From the location, the friendliness on arrival and every time you meet someone. Always helpful and very friendly.Perfect stay over the New Year festivities.will come again at different season to fully enjoy the valley.

Maybe the rainy weather, but that's not the responsibility of the hotel.
