    Pros +

    • Position, view, comfort
    • Great beach access. Large room, clean, good breakfast.
    • Our room reservation had air conditioning problems. However, the property upgraded us to a beautiful room with a hot tub, sauna & Thai shower. Beautiful views of the ocean.

    Cons -

    • A bit of a walk to town, not bad though.
    • The mattress was the worst mattress I have ever slept on in a hotel, bnb, or anywhere that wasn’t a cabin. The springs cut into my back, needed to put a blanket on top of mattress springs to get any sleep. The room is advertised by booking.com as having a private pool. This is not the case, as the pool is public. This also means that the advertised terrace is also public. Not the worst, but very misleading by booking.com the way they advertise the room. The room itself has very little natural light. This was clearly a public sauna/spa at some point and was converted into a room. In theory maybe good, but the humidity, lack of light, obscenely terrible mattress, and lack of transparency about shared outdoor spaces means I would never book this room again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Maybe other rooms at the property are nicer, if they have mattresses that don’t feel like they are 30+ years old. Oh well, lots of other options in Tropea.
    • The bed was not overly comfortable & room was quite small - suited us for a short stay though

The location is great with private beach access stairs. Perfect spot to watch the sunset over Stromboli. Great breakfast.

This little hotel is tucked away in a very quiet and tranquil area of town, about 15 minutes walk from the historic centre. It is so peaceful with a wonderful terrace looking straight out over the sea. Daniella and her colleague were very attentive in the mornings, providing excellent coffees to accompany their tasty breakfasts. Use of the pool and sunbathing terrace was a lovely bonus.

Amazing experience. La Porta del Mare was a hidden treasure. So happy to have found this amazing beautiful hotel overlooking 3 of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen! The location seems to be right in the perfect spot in Tropea.

Fantastic location not far from old town and across the road from the beach. Great balcony with beautiful ocean views, the breakfast terrace overlooking the sea was great.

The bed was not overly comfortable & room was quite small - suited us for a short stay though

Good location and great view from the breakfast balcony. Parking is easy in the general area.

Rooms were definitely not soundproofed, you could hear everything. You have to go out of the hotel to get to the spa and pool, which is part of the next building/hotel. It doesn't really feel like a hotel as there was no one on the front desk most of the time.

Wonderful location overlooking the sea. Great breakfasts on large terrace with a fantastic view. Staff (Danielle) was very friendly and accommodating. 15 minute walk to the center of town and a 10 minute walk (down many stairs) to the beach which was picturesque and great. There are a lot of restaurants in town with great food from the area. There are also many different daily excursions by boat to nearby islands including Stromboli, an active volcano.

N/A - my wife and I enjoyed everything. We are very active and don’t mind the stairs which are necessary because of the landscape of the area. Some people who aren’t very active or sporty will be physically challenged walking from the hotel to the beach but they could drive down instead. Parking and getting around in town is a challenge due to the abundance of tourists.

Good location and an excellent view.

The staff seemed stressed and were a little disorganised. We had to change rooms after the first night due to miscommunication between staff and were treated as unwelcome when arriving at breakfast at 9:45. Breakfast finishes at 10, a little early for August; when even young children end up sleeping at 11pm. The pool, did not seem clean (the water was cloudy) and is shared between a large number of guests staying in the apartments behind the restaurant.

    The location was good

We paid extra for a room with a balcony and a sea view. The room we were given was poolside and there was no balcony with the only window on the door. For the sea view you had to stand at the door.

Staff were friendly. Air con was amazing!

Couldnt ever find staff to ask anything, wasn't shown where the pool was and couldnt find it. The shower head was damaged but stikk worked so wasn't an issue

Everything is beautiful. Especially the breakfast with a view of the sea, which makes me feel relaxed. The manager is helpful and friendly.Lovely and friendly town.

    Complain? Nothing

Room was large and very clean! The location to the beach was very convenient and close to everything. Staff was friendly and helpful with our stay.

The view from the terrace is really nice, the hotel is close to the beach and the city center. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was also quite nice, but of course don't expect breakfast like we're used to - it's mostly sweet pastries, fruits and yogurts.

Be careful when booking a room through booking, I didn't know that the photos I see do not correspond to the type of room I made the reservation for. When we arrived, the classic room was dark with only one small window, not really nice bathroom and 3 single beds, luckily the owner gave us a superior room, but we were told it's only for 5 days because its already booked after. The Superior room was quite ok but also very simple, instead of a window there was a glass door to a small terrace. I didn't see any spa nor was it shown to us and the pool didn't look very clean therefore we didn't use it. So we decided to stay for 3 nights and went to another hotel and city even though we paid for 7 nights. We stayed in Tropea for 3 days and the first evening we had no electricity for a few minutes, but on the second day for 3 hours in the whole town. When we arrived at 15:00 we couldn't find any restaurant that was open so we had to wait until 19:00 to get anything to eat other than the bagged chips at the beach bar.

View was amazing. Situated in a great location. Close enough to restaurants and shops but situated in a quiet area so great at night for sleeping.

    8SierraPosted on: 6-6-2024

Great breakfast with an amazing view. Super close to the main town.

    10TonyPosted on: 5-29-2024

The location was the best in town, overlooking the beach. The restaurant was very good, as was the breakfast. Rooms were very clean and functional. I'd go back there anytime.

All the hills we had to cycle up and down to get there.

    9EricPosted on: 5-21-2024

Nice comfortable room. Breakfast was on a terrace overlooking the sea.Not too far to walk to the centre of town.

There were a lot of steps down to the beach. Our stay was spoiled by noisy and inconsiderate guests in adjacent rooms. Shouting and banging doors late at night and no staff on hand to ask them to be more considerate.

    8NickyPosted on: 5-21-2024

Lovely clean room beautiful view of the sea and stromboli.

We couldn't get to the beach as we didn't know how to. It was cold in the night but we didn't have a blanket. We didn't have hair conditioner. Also we didn't see any staff until breakfast.
