About
Moncloa de San Lázaro is a converted 13th-century hospital located in Cacabelos, on the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage Route. It offers country-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. The rooms at Moncloa San Lázaro feature wooden floors and ceilings. They are equipped with air conditioning and heating, and the private bathrooms come with a hairdryer. The hotel’s restaurant serves characteristic food from the El Bierzo region, using fresh, local produce. It is decorated all in wood, and there is also a café-bar with similar traditional décor. Located in Castilla y León’s Bierzo region, Hotel Moncloa has a charming shop which sells local artisan produce such as wines and jams. There is also an exhibition hall displaying work by local artists. The town of Ponferrada is 6.8 mi away from Moncloa de San Lázaro. You can drive to the Roman mines of Las Médulas, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in around 30 minutes.

- We couldn’t have been happier staying in this 3-4 hundred year old pilgrim’s hospital. It has been our best stay on the Camino. Our room had a hot tub that worked beautifully. The room was spacious and quiet. The bed so comfortable. It is more than justA hotel it is a destination where you can eat DELICIOUS food and drink a variety of wines. They have a store with homemade jams and honey, local wines and crafts. Staying here was such a respite from the Camino! The reception woman, sadly I didn’t get her name, was so sweet and helpful. We will come again We hope!!!! Give yourself the gift of staying here and having a glass of wine with their grilled vegetables and hot goat cheese! OMG!

This is a beautiful upscale facility with gracious and helpful staff. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well decorated. The food in the restaurant was delicious and amply.
There is nothing to dislike about this property.
It was a beautiful retreat. Gardens, birds everywhere. Of the 52 lodgings we stayed in along the Camino Frances, this was by far the most unique and fun. Watching the birds take turns eating leftovers at the table next to us while we enjoyed an afternoon drink and tapas was so much fun. Dinner was great. Easter lamb, salad. Oh and the cherries grown on site!
Beautiful room, lovely restaurant, great location for the Camino - it was like an oasis.
This was right on the way. It was comfortable and easy to get a great meal with great wine. Stay here and be well rested and fed for your next epic day
This hotel is a gem! Beautiful grounds, historically decorated rooms, excellent food and attentive service.
Super cute hotel. Loved the room, it was super cozy. Great bathtub to soak in. Lovely garden and bar area to hang out in during lunch time. Right on the Camino.
The dinner I had was okay.
La Moncloa is a gem of a property. Kind service, excellent community space and an extremely comfortable room and bed. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful gardens. When our room was available, they let us checkin. Also, staff was responsive to a water issue we had in the bathroom. Overall, the staff was great.
I didn’t think that it lived up to the hype at all. We walked into a room full of flies and mosquitoes and had to work to get them all out. Our bathroom had an unpleasant smell, which I know can happen in older buildings. We had a mini flood in our bathroom and couldn’t figure out how it happened and when I tried to call reception, the phone didn’t work. We found dirt and stuff in our sheets. It didn’t feel as clean as I hoped it would be. I would stop by for lunch, but I wouldn’t stay there again. The staff were very responsive and kind. It may be that with older buildings things happen, but I was disappointed.
This place was beautiful. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom had the best, biggest tub I've seen since traveling. I ate at the restaurant and the food was phenomenal. This was a last-minute decision and definitely the right one. Hope I get the chance to go back.
This was a wonderful old charm inn. We had a delightful night here and wished we could stay longer. Small village charm, quiet, peaceful and wonderful staff. As I said wished we could stay linger.
This is a lovely hotel or pension with a really wonderful gift shop emphasizing local crafts and products. When we had to wait a few minutes to check in, we were offered a small glass of locally produced wind to sample. The room was comfortable and very clean with great bathroom facilities. We didn't eat a the restaurant because we has other plans, but it looked good.
The beautiful garden in the back. I spent the whole afternoon outside with delicious wine.
Some noise but to be expected on a Saturday night on a beautiful day. Not enough to spoil my night!
I love the way the old is blended with the new. The reception/gift shop is awesome. I have always enjoyed the restaurant/bar for the warm ambiance and good food and service.
Room in rooftop big and comfortableDinner excellent - food and service
Breakfast: On check in we were offered breakfast at €7.70 each - told it was omelette, meats, cheese, toast, coffee, orange juice. We were served 2 pieces of cold toast and i small jar of jam to share; a coffee and small orange juice. When i enquired about the omelette etc i was told that breakfast was only toast and jam. Another guest at the next table was given the same breakfast information on check in.Despite writing to the hotel i have had no response. Our advice : Avoid breakfast!!
So quiet! We slept so well! The gift shop was beautiful and the restaurant had delicious food.
Wifi was unreliable in our room.
Great location, right on the Camino. Pleasant light and comfortable rooms. Great food. Breakfast was very nice. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again.
Everything was great.
La Moncloa de San Lazaro was an exceptional place to stay! The rooms and the food in this historic hotel were amazing! It was our favorite hotel on our 2024 Camino.
Everything was wonderful.
