Pros +
- Staff very nice
- Really friendly and helpful staff, very welcoming and with lots of hospitality for guests to avail themselves off - we enjoyed the mix of hostel / hotel and atmosphere. Location right in the heart of the port lodges of Vila Nova da Gaia a real plus.
- The staff Theresa was exceptional helping us with our train schedule
Cons -
- Not possible for guests with a disability. Only stairs two floors up to the reception. Stairs in the room from bed to bathroom. Not suitable at all for elderly or disabled guess, it must appear in the Info.
- The noise from other nearby bars generally stopped around midnight
- Our room felt a bit cold, which is in December. We tried to adjust the heater, but even when it's in the warmest it is still a bit cold.

The staff Theresa was exceptional helping us with our train schedule
The breakfast was made to order, as soon as you sit down, someone will greet you and start bringing you your order, staffs are very friendly and helpful, I would stay again, and again.

The staff, the room , the breakfast and the location and their port wine
I wasn’t aware that they didn’t have onsite parking so I rented a car to take the beautiful ride from Lisbon to Porto. Parking was complicated and a bit of a walk.
The place is tge Taj Mahal of hostels. Location, architecture, breakfasts, views and staff.
Breakfast can be ordered with access to some items in buffet. It’s always freshly made and served quickly. Views are exceptional. Free water available 24 hours and access to bar items for a reasonable fee.
Tourist area, always busy on the main stretch of the river. Many restaurants available close however price reflects touristic area.
Great location and view over the river could not be beaten. Staff were great, friendly and could not do anymore that you asked for. We stayed in a room, with balcony and river view (room 18). The hotel also runs as a hostel ( but a very modern older 20-30 crowd), which did make the place more varied than a normal hotel. Also the beer was cheap €2.50 and wine was only€3, port was also available. All rooms are very secure and could not recommend anymore.
All good to be honest. If you stay in private / river view rooms you also get a free up lift on the breakfast ( again very fresh and nice)
Location is great, staff very helpful esp with luggage. It's your high-end hostel, so the usage of the kitchen is not really available. Breakfast is basic. However, you can purchase eggs or pancakes.
The sad looking fake plants ! Esp the ones as you walk upstairs. Just my opinion
Breakfast was great. They even made us a breakfast box at 2am as we had an early flight. They let us store our bags prior to check in so that we could enjoy some sightseeing. Everyone was very friendly. The view was amazing!
We were unable to do a port tasting at Sandeman. It would be a good thing to make sure that people staying in the hotel can get in for a tasting even if they didn't reserve. In my communications prior to the visit, no one mentioned that reservations were required, so that was a little disappointing. Other than that, everything was great!
The staff was so friendly. The beds are comfortable with cotton sheets and pillowcases. Cotton towels are available for a 5 euro deposit- quite a luxury after the Camino. A full European breakfast is included. Tea time from 5-6. Full kitchen available. Lovely showers! Very quiet!
I can’t think of a thing.
I loved the spacious room (dormitory), the cool beds, the comfort, the quiet space upstairs, the view from the public space, the breakfast, the incredible helpfulness and kindness of the employees… I really can’t say enough wonderful things. Hands down this is one of the best hostels I’ve been to in the world.
I loved everything; the one thing that was not a big deal but I did notice it— the area where the spacious lockers are has a slight mildew smell.
Highly recommend. Great location on the Douro south bank overlooking the city. Convenient location. We had private room 19 at the back of the property. No view but extremely quiet. The rooms are a recent addition to the hostel. Huge! And the shower can easily fit 6 people! Wood beam ceilings over the stone walls from the original port barrel storage. Historical and unique. Very friendly hostel vibe. Great breakfast and even the take-out sack breakfast for an early start.
Mgt still working on the punch list, which I trust they will fix. Entry door inside handle came off in our hand once (door too tight against frame, NOT because it is a heavy fire door). Deadbolt would not line up- fixed when we pointed it out. A/C worked extremely well first night. Second night too warm but fixed after I shut it down for 5 minutes. Third night staff had to reset the system themselves. In-room tea/coffee service missing. Again, std punch list items that should have been resolved. Still, I would go back!
The place is beautiful, well located, the beds are to comfortable and the staff is really nice.
The reception, bar, breakfast, kitchen, are spectacular with a great view!
The design of the dorm room beds, lockers and bathroom area. Beds move with everyone feeling each other moving. Curtain to separate seeing others sleeping or changing clothes is insufflent. No space to change clothes or pack suitcases. Lockers and door to Room 4 bang up against each other, which is annoying!
Overall helpfulness, knowledgeable and positive attitude of staff. Affordable accommodation and the hardy breakfast was a plus.
Would have preferred to have shared a room with less people and not sleep on the top bunk bed.
Best location on the river. The staff was great. Very cool room.
The Staff were very friendly & helpful! I hadnt stayed in a hostel in many years. The beds were comfy, the breakfast was good and they had plenty of showers & bathrooms for the # of people staying there.
Eggs could have been cooked longer.
Location. Excellent facilities for a Hostel. Staff was outstanding. Loved the wine rack bunk beds.
Location was great. Beautiful inside, clean, beds were very comfortable, breakfast was wonderful, laundry service, you can use the kitchen, plenty of space near the bed and in the locker, easy check in
