Good location, very traditional ryokan, nice staff, good traditional meals in room (no western options for breakfast though)
Dated facility, unaesthetic onsen and cumbersome shoe check snd car key check procedures
The traditional Japanese room. Wonderful.
When I left, they billed 300 yen hot spring tax. It’s a small amount, but I hate surprises tacked on the moment I leave. It always feels like being goosed at the last moment. It blemishes an otherwise lovely stay.
What makes this place is the meals. Meals are carefully prepared and served in your room. Incredible presentation and delicious food.
The onsen was not the nicest looking. The outdoor onsen was cute, but had no view, just a fenced in area. The interior of the ryokan was clean, but could use some renovation. There were stains on the walls and the carpeting felt old. Otherwise everything was fantastic. Staff were super friendly and helpful and the prices reasonable.
the place gas traditional Japanese style, which gives me unique experience. The rooms were spacious and quiet. The onsen was very nice. I did not expect Onsen tax when I booked the hotel, it was charged at the time of check out. I didn't mind it, it was low price. But I wish it would be counted toward the entire room fee instead of being charged extra at the end. I believed the onsen usage is included when I booked the hotel, but apparently it wasn't.
The flip flops were shared among all guests, I didn't realize that until after I check in. I personally prefer to not share wearables such as shoes, but later I learned it was part of the tradition. So I just always wear socks when I use their flip flop, for personal hygiene reasons.
Location
Facilities are old, pictures shown on the site must have been from long time ago. Cool white lighting in the room does not give cozy feeling for holiday
I got a lot of dietary wishes, I even forgot to mention a few. The cook and staff are amazing, they adapted the meals so that I could eat without any worries. The meals are huge. After a meal and a trip to their onsen, I would fall asleep fast. They laid out a double futon (ni mai) and it was fantastic. From all places in Japan where we slept (hotels, AirBnBs) this was the most comfortable place to sleep. There's enough to do, especially if you like nature. We had about half a meter's snow at the end of March. I'd love to go to this ryokan again. Some say this is an old and dated ryokan, that's true, but we saw that as a plus. It's like you're teleported to the past. And the staff really makes up for it.
I hadn't really asked so I'm not sure, but I checked booking.com and figured there'd probably not be a washing machine. We only stayed 2 nights. In the ryokan I would wear the yukata they provided, but I would like the option to wash my clothes.I speak a bit of Japanese, I think it would be a bit of a challenge for those who don't. There are enough digital options to get around.
This was our second stay, we came about 10 years ago and when I was thinking where in Japan I would like to spend my 70th birthday, this was an obvious choice. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, just as remembered, and re-living the whole experience was a lot of fun. Physically the hotel has deteriorated somewhat, renovation look overdue, but overall the stay was great.
The Onsen - is the gem of the hotel, also it is walking distance to Jigokudani Valley
The offering options for dinner and breakfast on booking.com is slightly confusing
Japanese-style bed is comfortable. Location is excellent.
Food serving was quite slow.
Rooms are spacious. Onsen is excellent. Location to major sightseeing is superb. Parking is on site. Staff especially front desk is extremely friendly and helpful.
Traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner are on average. While varieties are good but quality is nothing more than ordinary. The location is remote from shopping area.
Good service, foods, staffs. Recommend!
The onsen, the walks in the autumn foliage near Noboribetsu were great, and the kaiseki meal was delicious! Would definitely recommend stopping there for a night if you're near the area!
The location was good. Staff were reasonably friendly
This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel itself is very dated. The room was disgusting. Mold everywhere, dead bugs, sticky table surface, just overall not clean. I had trouble breathing just being in the room from the mold and years of cigarette smoke. The hotel itself was also quite expensive, so I was very surprised at how rough the experience was. I strongly recommend staying elsewhere if you are reading this.
The main staff at the front desk seemed to know enough English to help accommodate guests, and was nice to tell us about a local festival occuring the day we checked in! Rules on the onsen times were very clear, and the food options were great (it seemed to focus on cooked seafood for my stay).
The Wi-Fi speeds weren't great for me, seemed fine to other guests. Also unsure if it was due to previous guests, but the rooms had a relatively minor smokey cigarette smell; you kind of get used to it when staying in the room for a while.
The stuff was very polite and helpful. The indoor onsen was really relaxing. The mixed western style/ Japanese style room was spacious.
The accommodation is very old and not in good condition. It needs urgent a renovation. Our room was not clean. For the payed money not recommended.
Interior decor, helpful staff.
Needs a refurb.
Very nice traditional onsen hotel, room was quite spacious, food was great both dinner and breakfast served to the room. The service was great. Overall great experience. We went in summer which I found a bit too warm for onsen. It would be great to come back in winter to experience the onsen.
