    Pros +

    • Amazing location overlooking hell valley. The onsens are massive with so many different options.
    • Great onsen. Cool location with cool restaurants around.
    • Onsen baths were lovely, especially outdoor pools bordering on Hell Valley with healing properties. Huge dinner buffet with a ton of delicious food, especially the sushi and sashimi. Despite being a large busy hotel, the check-in and out were efficient. Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats were large and very comfortable.

    Cons -

    • A bit expensive
    • Hotel felt large and rather impersonal with so many people and big groups everywhere and so many shops and escalators everywhere; it felt more like a huge shopping mall than a hotel. My husband described the men's onsen area and it looked larger and having a bigger variety of pools than the women's, which I thought was a bit overrated as only one of the pools was above ground, and the other outdoor ones were small and felt like they were in a basement cave. Dinner and breakfast buffet rooms were very crowded and we felt unsafe with COVID and flu viruses circulating, but staff were adament about not bringing any food back to the room where we would've felt safer eating it. Hotel was lovely, but I was expecting a warmer, more personal experience.
    • Staff could have been a bit more helpful with logistics and it would be nice if they had some way of assisting you with getting your luggage to and from the bus rather than dragging suitcases through the snow - but the resort accommodates a lot of people so probably hard to deliver at scale.

The onsen suites are a completely different experience from other room options- though it comes with a hefty price to match. The room itself was spacious and well appointed. The view from the balcony was incredible and the private onsen was a gamechanger - having a private open air onsen with an amazing view of hell valley was truly an incredible experience and I cannot calculate how much time I spent enjoying the private onsen gazing at the view. I pretty much just briefly visited the resort baths because the in-room experience was much nicer and I could enjoy with my wife. Additionally the premium kaiseki was really good, I have had a lot of good food in Japan and went in with managed expectations which were pleasantly exceeded. The Japanese breakfast was also executed better than other versions I had had.

Staff could have been a bit more helpful with logistics and it would be nice if they had some way of assisting you with getting your luggage to and from the bus rather than dragging suitcases through the snow - but the resort accommodates a lot of people so probably hard to deliver at scale.

We loved breakfast and the amazing traditional rooms. We loved the onsen!! Access to hikes and food options were amazing.

Room has no AC, very stuffy and has a weird smell, toilet is dirty and smells. You cannot open the windows or else bugs with fly into the room

    8ChaoPosted on: 1-16-2026

Big hot springs area and shops in the hotel. Good buffet diner.

Room is very small. Bed is small too.

    9JeremyPosted on: 1-15-2026

Great location right at the entrance to the Jigokudani valley. Very good choice of food at the buffet at both dinner and breakfast including international and excellent local produce. Excellent choice of additional entertainment and shops in the same building and easy access to bus service.

Although the onsen was superb in terms of the choice of mineral types and numerous baths at different temperatures including outdoor options, the onsen complex was quite a long way from the accommodation block. The hotel is massive and is on the verge of becoming somewhat overcrowded particularly at meal times although excellent staff made it work ok.

Unforgettable experience! Exceptional in every way! The Grand Bath was something we will never forget. The buffet meals were so good we enjoyed everything. The room was very good and comfortable. Staff were polite and very helpful. Worth every penny! Amaaaazing!!!

We could have stayed longer. It's so good here.

Onsen, dinner and room are great.

    9CaraPosted on: 1-10-2026

What a wonderful place! The hotel would have been VERY easy to get to had we actually followed instructions, but as it ended up, it was only a couple of blocks from the bus station. The room was lovely and spacious, the baths were just an awesome experience, and the breakfast buffet was the stuff of legend. This has got to be the best hotel in town.

I wish that the men and women switched off in the two bathing areas like some hotels do, because (from what my husband described) the women are getting short-changed. Also, the soba restaurant in the basement was an absolute nightmare. Just go on Google and read the reviews.

    - Great Onsen facilities; so many unique bath area, nice water quality, very long operating hours- Majestic Inferno Valley landscape- Variety Food Selection; lots of delicious food at the buffet restaurants

First of all the dinner. Absolutely epic - from the restaurant itself, well organized efficient staff, good service and most importantly food. The local and Hokkaido specialties. I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I kept coming back! The onsen is spacious and enjoyable and we really loved it to bits.

The interior design of the onsen feels very dated.

Amazing room, views, comfortable bed, grand bath was amazing

The bar wasn;t great and neither was the food

    8Kim H.Posted on: 1-4-2026

Onsen was great, there's a lot of different pool, available sake/beer during outdoor onsen, great experience. They have a bus stop that is super near to the hotel. Special menu Kaiseki was awesome.

Breakfast Buffet is a little lackluster compared to other hotel.Dinner wise, as we are staying for two night, the second day kaiseki meal (not the special menu) is not as premium as the first day.

    8BilalPosted on: 1-3-2026

The staff was helpful and warm. We loved the pool and slide for our young children (9 and 6). We stayed in the largest traditional tatami room, and it was amazingly spacious. The breakfast was a terrific value. The onsen was relaxing and was not very crowded at any of the times we went. The outdoor baths were a highlight. Lots of options for the kinds of pools you might use.

The swimming pool area looked dated and needed some repairs. The breakfast was exactly the same every day, so you may get bored with the food options. The hotel is not conveniently located unless you take the Express Bus. Plan your flights into Sapporo (New Chitose Airport) around the bus schedule to make your transport as convenient as possible. Otherwise, expect two trains, a public bus, and a walk up a hill with your luggage.

Very helpful and friendly staff, clean facility and great onsen experience!

    Nothing comes to mind.

    10ChristinePosted on: 12-28-2025

The service level was impeccable. The staff (at the hotel front desk, in the onsen, and at the restaurant) was incredibly helpful and kind. The facilities were also very clean and my kids loved the indoor swimming pool. The location was so convenient to jigokudani and learning about the history of the hotel was very special.

    Everything was great. No complaints.

Spacious tatami room with a nice view of the garden and mountains that are covered with snow! Of course you he onsen (hot spring baths) experience at Daiichitakimoto is exceptional- an amusement park of hot springs on multiple levels ❣️
