    • The view from my hotel room was amazing, but the location is 4 miles outside of the town of Otaru. The view was the only good thing about the place
    • The location is great, breakfast is delicious
    • Beautiful views of the ocean

    Cons -

    • The hotel is as very run down. Literally the building had chunks missing from it. Outside my room was a stench I can only describe as human poop. The open air bath and ocean view room I paid almost $300 for a single night, had mold in the bathroom and some sort of white mold in the bathroom on the floor all over. The faucet for the bath and the windowsills had black mold on them as well. The tea kettle also had mold inside of it and the fridge wasn’t even on (they said this in the material they gave) but also had gray mold in the fridge. There was even what looked like human feces coming out of the wall too. I was denied at table in the restaurant even thought their was 20 tables around and only 4 of them were being used because I didn’t make a reservation the day I got there. The place was not worth any of what I paid.
    • The whole facility is kinda old, and room is smaller than we expected
    • Needs updating and maintenance. Very worn

    Nice view

    1. False information provided ie the size of the bed (it’s king bed size of 180-200 cm on booking.com but it’s only 160 cm on site). 2. There’s additional charge for small child stay though the policy is free for child stay (from our previous conversation before checking in, the staff said it’s an option if you want child’s slippers or towels but they force us to pay upon checking in (though we already have our own for a child)3.The private bath with sea view is great disappointment as it’s not quiteclean and you can smell chlorine on your skin after bathing.4. Facilities and rooms are very old with no renovation.

Beautiful view from hotel, open air bath.

The hotel needs to arrange more shuttles connecting the hotel and JR station. After checking out at 11, there were no seats available on 11 o’clock shuttle. We were not informed that we need to reserve shuttle since lots of people are checking out at the same time. So we had to call taxi. Also we were asked way too many questions upon arrival. For tired tourists it’s hard to decide at what time they want breakfast for 3 days ahead. Also it was unusual for us to pay for cleaning services for the first day of staying. The other interesting thing was bar. It opens late, I believe around 7 pm. Unfortunately, you can’t just order one drink, you have to sign up for “all you can drink in 90 minutes” for I believe 3,000 Japanese yen.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was incredible. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was the best we've had in Japan thus far I don't have anything to say, except it was extremely relaxing.

Very delicious dinner and breakfast! The music radio in the room is charming! View from the window is wonderful!

    Nothing!

Amazing hotel with an old world charm, perched atop a cliff and overlooking the sea. The views from this hotel is truly unrivalled. The staff are all helpful and friendly, and clearly dedicated to ensuring we had an exceptional stay. Breakfast was a sumptuous feast every day, and they made sure that we received a different meal on the 2 mornings we were there. The quality of the food was excellent too. In the lobby, there's also a cute DIY snack counter and drinks dispenser, both of which offered delicious chips and apple water, among others. We booked the room with a private onsen - best decision made! Our room and onsen both had superb views of the mountains and sea. It was an incredible stay.

The hotel is a 15min drive away from the city centre, so it's a little inaccessible. But there is an hourly hotel shuttle that you takes you to & from Otaru city until 7pm. The staff also asked us to pre-book the shuttle service in advance, during check in, so there was no trouble at all.

Beautiful location although far from centre of Otaru (in winter it would be almost impossible to walk up to the cliffside location of hotel unless you are super fit and you have next to nothing luggage). They offer shuttle pick up and drop off from Otaru station as long as booked in advance so it wasnt a big issue for us. the views are SO SO GOOD. The private onsen is great especially as me and my fiance have tattoos.Love the view of the ocean from our room and onsen. Generous amenities and overall a lovely stay.Love that our room is so big, we can literally exercise together. Happy to have a little lounge area for chilling. The restaurant serves lovely food and even gave me complimentary birthday cake slice ??

Nothing. The highlight was leaving the property.

The hotel looks very rundown when you arrive. Interior gloomy, dated and creepy. Room like something out of the Soviet block meets the Shining. Ugly dated furnishing. Difficult to understand system of dining. Only available through reservation even though there was no one in the restaurant. Food very ordinary. .Bar not open until 8.30. Terrible noise all night of wind howling down the pipes. Could not wait to get out of there.

    10WoohyunPosted on: 2-19-2025

I booked for private bath. This is public-bath-class. It is not tab water you turn on and off. It flows constantly. And also it is so-called “outside-like” bath which is actually inside so I was worried about the experience not like the actual outside bath, but it was better! In winter it is so cold so you cannot enter the bath outside or your face will freeze. In this facility you can open the window to get some wind and snow, and still the warm air is inside so not freezing-cold. Also you can kind-of cool the water not to be hot by having some outside air. My last night was snow-storm and it was quite exciting that gust comes in to the vent and make some noise in the toilet (not actual wind but noise). Restaurant was also perfect. I would love to visit with my loved ones!

Location is too far away. They provide rides as far as you want, but it is on the hill so virtually it is so hard you to climb from the bus stop or the aquarium. But because of this location, you can enjoy the view. Also I’d love if you can state how frequent the while bath water will be changed. In believe to be every guest but better to notify clearly.

Great location and the view is superb! Really big bed which is great. The outdoor onsen is so amazing so if your thinking about booking because of it, definitely do it! Staff are also lovely.

The AC in the room didn’t really work and we got left at Otaru station after using the free shuttle bus to go down and grab some food from the hotel, the driver had overbooked and another car had to come get us (they came within 5 mins which was fine).

    9NeoPosted on: 2-13-2025

Dinner was 4 courses and fabulously life changingly good. Room was big and view was spectacularly beautiful. Hotel driver was super helpful and nice

Onsen smelled like chlorine and was slightly too hot.

    9LeePosted on: 2-12-2025

Love the private onsen and the exceptional view from our room

A bit too hot in the room and cannot adjust the temperature.

    1LeannePosted on: 2-4-2025

The property is set on cliffs, unfortunately the windows are so pure and full of condensation you can’t see anything. The road up was also closed so we had to take a back route.

The property Is literally falling apart, the lift almost took a guest hand off, you c could smell dampness throughout and our room was full of mould which you could smell from outside the door. The internal door was falling off the hinges too. We decided not to stay because of how bad the mould was.Room service is only served from 8:00pm and the food menu is very expensive & not very good.

    10EladPosted on: 2-3-2025

Everything, felt like 5 stars with the amazing service and decoration. Private Onsen in the room was beautiful.

I recommend to have a small buffet during dinner (keep serving the meal from the menu but have some small options in a buffet) and a little bit more options during breakfast.

    9LinPosted on: 1-23-2025

Love the vibes of the hotel, vintage and luxurious feeling, tho compared to modern days hotel, it will not feel and look the same. Had a good stay, the staff were all wonderful. Polite and very hospitable, which lacks in many modern hotels nowadays. The view was lovely as well.

    9StephaniePosted on: 1-22-2025

The hotel is truly excellent, offering a remarkable experience that combines comfort and breathtaking views. The location provides a stunning panorama, making every moment spent here feel like a dream. Whether you’re relaxing in your room or dining, the picturesque scenery adds an extra layer of charm to your stay. What truly sets this hotel apart is the exceptional service provided by the staff. Their attentiveness to detail is second to none, as they go above and beyond to ensure every aspect of your stay is perfect. No request is too big or small for them, and they handle everything with professionalism, warmth, and a genuine desire to make guests feel special. The dining experience is another highlight. Breakfast and dinner were outstanding, with an impressive variety of dishes presented with the utmost care. Every bite was a testament to the high standards of the hotel’s culinary team, making meals a memorable part of the overall experience. This hotel truly delivers on every front, creating an atmosphere of relaxation, indulgence, and unparalleled hospitality. It’s a destination I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable getaway.

The spa bath in the room can do with a slight refurbishment

    10CtuckerPosted on: 1-14-2025

In room onsen had a great view. Staff friendly and gave good advice on restaurants.

It is expensive. It is out of town - you need a car to get there.

    10RebeccaPosted on: 1-12-2025

I got an ocean front view and it was a dream come true. I spent about three hours a day in the hot bath, feeling the cold air and occasional snowflake drifting in from the window and drinking in the incredible views. I also contacted the hotel via messaging on booking.com before my trip to enquire about the meals (as I'm vegetarian), book shuttles into and from Otaru Station and book a taxi, and that was all sorted out for me. Also, when I couldn't finish my meal because I was so full one night, they brought my dessert up to my room an hour later for me. They even packed me a take away breakfast because I had to leave before 7am on my checkout day. The room itself was also gorgeous and had modern conveniences like an outlet near the bed and a large TV with streaming services. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and hope to be back soon.

It would have been great to be able to open the window in the bedroom, but I understand that this is a safety issue.
