    • That is a good choice if you stay near the Matsumoto castle.
    • Close to Matsumoto castle
    • The front desk staff was exceptional, really going the extra mile.

    Cons -

    • There is no hotel and own parking
    • Property smelled, room looked very dated
    • It’s a traditional Japanese hotel, with a futon on the floor — comfortable enough for sleep, but they only set it up in the early evening, which leaves you sitting on the floor if you want to rest in your room in the afternoon.

The staff were really nice and the breakfast was great.

The hotel lobby is much nicer than the rooms. The rooms were fine but are in clear need of an update.

    8KimberleyPosted on: 1-19-2026

The traditional Japanese room was a unique experience. The futons were fine, though not as comfortable as the Western-style beds we’re used to. The location, however, was fantastic—close to plenty of restaurants and just a short walk from Matsumoto Castle.

The room itself felt a bit dated and could benefit from a refurbishment.

Great location, very close to Mastumoto Castle. Lots of restaurants and bars closeby. Very comfortable stay. Really liked the rustic feel of the place.

This was a great hotel with nice clean rooms and convenient location. The service was well done and the staff was very accommodating. The breakfast was a fair selection. They have a cute little cafe attached as well.

The placement of the onsen (public bath) made it a bit awkward to use. The women's onsen is on the same level as their conference room. We stayed during the end of the year so there were a lot of events being held in the evening. It was a bit awkward heading to the bath in casual clothes only to be stared at by men in formal suits. The women's onsen is locked with a hotel card so it was completely safe and enjoyable once inside.

    nice tatami room

theres still some renovation going so our room had no view due to the scaffolding and netting

Central location, spacious traditional room. The staff helped us to book dinner reservations most nights which was very helpful.

Breakfast vouchers and a confusing cleaning schedule.

Conveniently located within walking distance of tourist sites. The hotel has an Old World appeal with dark wood, ceramics and artworks. Staff members are friendly and very helpful. The room was quiet and comfortable and had a generous selection of amenities. The buffet breakfast was tasty with a variety of Asian and Western dishes. Free shuttle to railway station, morning only.

The location is excellent — very convenient for sightseeing, and the breakfast was truly delicious.

During dinner time, it rained heavily, so we couldn’t go out. However, the hotel restaurant required advance reservations, even though there were plenty of empty tables. So, with umbrellas in hand, we ventured out into the rain — only to find most restaurants already closed. Our last refuge for dinner that night was FamilyMart.

I loved the classic hotel feel. The interior was beautiful and the buffet breakfast was delicious. It is an older hotel, but that’s what adds to its charm. The staff was friendly and helpful and spoke some English, but they did have all information written in English. It was also the perfect location to Mastumoto Castle and Nawate-dori. Don’t forget to try the tonkatsu place a few doors down.

It is a little bit of a walk from the station, but the location was perfect for seeing Matsumoto castle.

Good location, large room and comfortable beds, friendly staff

    10MarkPosted on: 10-19-2025

Parking was very comfortable. Close located by main attractions + close to the city exit to highway.

    7kavitaPosted on: 10-17-2025

The location was excellent for local sights and the room was very nice with double aspect. The hotel baths were decent though little used, which was great for us.

Unfortunately the hotel is very very popular with coach groups, multiple a day. Not only does this make the front desk impossible to approach each evening (for much longer than expected) several of the local restaurants have taken to refusing non-Japanese speakers, something we didn't encounter once in our previous 4 weeks but did several times here. I appreciate the hotel can't do much on that but it's a consequence of accepting so many coach groups and tour operator travellers. The breakfast buffet choices are a little odd but ultimately ok.

Location really close to mutsomoto castle.Staff is very friendly

Parking with additional fee of 800 yen per night. The room felt very old.

    8JairPosted on: 8-6-2025

The hotel experience was great, despite the outdated rooms. It started with the staff, who were very accommodating and friendly. The hotel featured a public bathhouse that was very clean and had a relaxing atmosphere. I recommend the hotel's breakfast, which was quite complete, catering to both Western tastes and those looking to experience local cuisine. The hotel also had a reasonably priced laundry area to wash and dry your clothes (200 yen to wash and 300 yen for a 1.5-hour dry cycle). The location was excellent, within walking distance of the main sites and the train station.

The room accommodations were very outdated, but the beds were comfortable if you booked the larger room. The description on Booking.com seemed inaccurate, as it was listed as a 4-star hotel. While it may have been at one point, the hotel's charm makes up for the outdated and old carpet room. If you book the small two-bedroom, be aware that the bed is too small to comfortably fit two people.

Room was extremely spacious. It was like a small apartment. My granddaughter said it was the best place we stayed in Japan! The staff was extremely helpful. We arrived before check in time and when they said we could check in, our bags were all in our room when we were accompanied there by one of the staff. Everyone was professional, kind, and willing to help. When it was raining, there was someone from the staff standing outside with an umbrella to greet us and walk us in.

There were a few funky steps to get to our unit so it didn't quite matter if you took the elevator to the second floor, there were still a few steps to negotiate but if that's the worst part of the hotel, it really wasn't a negative at all.

The room is spacious and the ryokan style beds are comfortable. location is great. You can easily walk to explore Matsumoto castle and surrounding areas. The staffs were friendly and super helpful. We arrived on the rainy evening and the free shuttle bus from matsumoto station to the hotel was a life-saver. Breakfast is delicious with plenty of Japanese option. If I have a chance to visit Matsumoto again I'll definitely stay here again!!!

Location is perfect for a walk to the castle. The French/Japanese dinners provided with the half board option are excellent. Staff are very professional and always ready to help.

The design of the Japanese suite in the annex is very dangerous with many levels inside the room. You can easily fall with all the steps inside the bedroom and can also hit your head when you walk up from the bedroom to the bathroom as the ceiling is low. So I would not recommend staying in the suite in the annex.
