Hotel Rosso Karuizawa

We got 4 rooms in total. One of the room have flea issue. Unfortunately my kid got flea bite on his body. This might be one off but still is unacceptable.

The property is very close to the station, very strategic location for our group of 23 persons. Generous breakfast and the complimentary hot drinks/ snack in the evening.

Location wise is still manageable for walking from JR Karuizawa Station to Hotel, which is about 10 minutes. Nearby to 2 convenient store, Lawson and Family Mart. Free Shuttle Van to JR Karuizawa Station. The hotel arranged for extra trip to the station as there are too many occupant checking out on the same time which is a plus point. Free evening drinks and coffee. Free breakfast provided.

Have to hand in the room key to the hotel reception every time leaving the room, which we feel insecure of not having a room key. Staff attitude can be improved especially one male reception with spectacle which I don't find it friendly to deal with.

There is shuttle service to ski center and Karuizawa station. The staff were very nice and helpful.

There is limited space in the room for luggage.

Cosy & quiet since it was a distance from the station. Lawson & Family Mart really closed by too

Might be a bit of a walk with very young children. Nothing much to do in the hotel itself and within the immediate proximity. They stopped the bicycle rental the day we checked in so didn't get to utilise the rental service

The hotel staff is outstandingly friendly and helpful. I liked the very nicely made map of sightseeing attractions in the room. The beds were comfortable and the room quite spacious for Japanese standards. My 3 yr old child could stay without additional charge and even got a children overnight set and rental PJs.

We booked a non-smoking room, but the room and especially the bathroom in the morning had a strong cigarette smoke smell coming from the air outlet, it disappeared in the afternoon. The room was basic, nothing special. The bathroom was very small and very different from the pictures shown on booking.com. The breakfast was also basic, no fruits and very limited fresh vegetables. For all this, the price I paid was quite high, around 32k per night for a family of 3.

Excellent staff, spacious, clean, well furnished room. Nice breakfast, complimentary drinks.

Even though it's small, the staff were excellent and breakfast was good enough. My kid was having fun finding Rosso Kun.

The hotel location is just an easy flat 6 min walk from the JR shinkansrn station. It's a lovely little hotel with new facilities, and the hot water pressure through the rain shower is excellent. I had the family toom, which was very spacious. The free breakfast was nasic, but very sufficient. And on top of it all, the staff eas ALWAYS courteous and helpful, ftom having our room key ready when we returned before we even asked, and providing color prints of nus schedules and recommendations. I can't recommend Hotel Rosso enough for a stay in Karuizawa.

Beds were extremely comfortable. Room was fantastic in size. There were drinks for most of the day to help yourself to. There were games in the evening for anyone to play. Chess, reversi, Go, etc. Washing machine and dryer was a plus and breakfast had a reasonable spread.Staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Location is walking distance to the train station and walking distance to the outlet mall. Also possible to walk to the old town. Parking was easy. There was a Lawson right next door and a huge Family Mart 3 mins away.100% recommend.

Generally speaking everything was very nice, convenient, its literally next to a lawson, laundry was very easy, if i had to pick 1 thing to improve it might have been breakfast? The miso soup was a bit bitter (but maybe it was supposed to be like that?), salad was nice but i missed the sesame dressing, lots of meat but i'm vegetarian :')

I love how conducive the place, and how friendly and welcoming the staff were. Furthermore, when we were planning to head to Karuizawa Station, we were told that the next shuttle service would be heading to the ski area. As there were no passengers taking the shuttle to the ski area, the driver volunteered to take us to the station, and I deeply appreciate that.

There’s nothing I dislike about the hotel. It is a really nice place to stay while in Karuizawa.

Karuizawa is a wonderful place to visit, but staying at this hotel completely ruined our experience. From the moment we arrived, we were treated poorly—as if there was discrimination against us.We were denied check-in because our 7-year-old child was not allowed to stay in the same room unless we booked an extra bed. However, the hotel did not have any extra beds available. They insisted that their policy requires children aged 7 to have their own bed, yet they could not provide one. Their only "solution" was for us to book an additional room—only then would they allow our child to stay in our room. It made absolutely no sense.To make matters worse, they refused to let us cancel our booking, leaving us with no choice but to pay for the extra room.As if that wasn’t enough, when we were checking out, one of the staff rudely stopped us from taking a single rubber band from the lobby, simply because we were checking-out guests. This level of pettiness was shocking, especially considering we had no such experience at REF Kyoto hotel, where the service was far more welcoming and respectful.This was an incredibly frustrating and unreasonable experience. I will never stay at this hotel again.

The old fashioned key was a bit unwieldy

Very friendly English speaking front staff. As we were checking in almost at 11pm, he advised us to get stuff that we need before arriving as the shops around the hotel would be closing at 11pm.

As usual, rooms in Japan are small so this is the same.

Right next to Lawson, free breakfast, free Van transfer to Karuizawa Station (which is next to Karuizawa Shopping Plaza), huge rooms, and exceptional staff! Short walk to Karuizawa Station but if raining and/or snowing, van transfer is very helpful.
