About

Located directly on the waterfront, facing the Sables Blancs beach, the four-star Hôtel Valdys Thalasso & Spa – la Baie offers breathtaking views of Douarnenez Bay. Fully air-conditioned, it combines a seaside stay, wellness, and gourmet delights in one convenient location. The contemporary, spacious, and elegant rooms have been designed to offer comfort and tranquility. Some feature a balcony with sea views. The suites boast a furnished balcony-terrace, ideal for breathing in the sea air and admiring the panorama. From the hotel, an interior entrance provides easy access to the wellness area located on the lower level. Included in your stay, the Marine Spa features a seawater pool heated to 31°C, two whirlpools, a hammam, a sauna, a gym, and a relaxation area overlooking the sea. In summer, its terrace opening onto the beach allows you to extend this relaxing break in the fresh air. To enhance your stay, a wide selection of massages and wellness rituals inspired by traditions from around the world is available by reservation. Facial and body treatments, marine treatments, and water and land sports activities are also available for an additional fee. To access the Marine Spa, please remember to bring appropriate swimwear—swim shorts are not permitted—as well as a swim cap and flip-flops. With its panoramic view of Douarnenez Bay, the Aromatik restaurant offers creative and refined French cuisine, prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Seafood, seasonal flavors, and breathtaking views combine to create a gourmet experience that is truly Breton. Dishes adapted to certain dietary needs can be prepared upon request. A varied buffet breakfast is served each morning in the restaurant. The hotel's location makes it easy to discover Douarnenez, its beaches, its port, Tristan Island, and the unspoiled landscapes of the GR34 coastal path. It is also an ideal starting point for exploring the major sites of Finistère: the charming town of Locronan, the historic center of Quimper, the spectacular Pointe du Raz, and the Île de Sein, a true escape to the open sea, at the gateway to the Atlantic Ocean. Between seascapes, moments of well-being, and Breton discoveries, the Hôtel Valdys – la Baie**** is an ideal destination for a romantic getaway, a relaxing weekend, or an extended stay in Brittany.

    Pros +

    • Location + restaurant
    • Clean, comfortable and lovely location.
    • Balcony room had great view and perfect orientation of the room layout.

    Cons -

    • The steam room smelt really bad. Unhealthy even, like rotting cabbage....not at all like eucalyptus or the smell of a well-being spa ?
    • Poorly understaffed at check in and restaurant. The staff were stretched beyond reason, creating extremely slow service.
    • No bar

Location, decor, polite and helpful staff (for the most part), pool area, accessibility for people with limited mobility

Had mixed bag of cleaning staff. At the beginning of our stay they were great, the last two days, the lady who cleaned our room was quite rude and disagreeable

Everything, the location of the hotel, literally on the beach, sea view from the room, room and facilities, spa, and the superb food. Also the views from the restaurant and bar.

No mini bar in the bedroom

We had a superior room, which was very comfortable with a huge bed. There was a private car park for guests, which was easy to access from the hotel. We didn't use the spa but went swimming in the sea each morning, as there is a great beach right by the hotel. There are a few bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk, the first part of the town 10 minutes walk away, and the main town 25 minutes walk away. Would recommend as a good location for anyone wishing to stay in Douarnenez.

    LocationThe pool is great

Front desk staff - some were very nice others were not.Breakfast was ok but not excellent for this level of stars. Also table service at breakfast could be improved. Did not pick our dirty plates.

    Great breakfast, beautiful location.

The daily room cleaning could be improved.

    8ElizabethPosted on: 4-30-2024

High-class hotel in excellent location - delicious meal in the excellent restaurant. Beautiful sea-view from floor-to-ceiling bedroom window.

The hotel has all the features which belong to an establishment of that calibre but the atmosphere is lacking in warmth.

We particularly enjoyed being able to swim in the sea every day and then go back into the Spa and warm up in the facilities there as there was direct access to the beach .

Front desk was cheerful , friendly, if not terribly knowledgeable.

We were looking for a more authentic ‘Brittany’ experience, whereas this hotel/spa could have been anywhere. I tried to use the pool at 6:30pm and was told it was closing soon. We were never able to use the pool. One of the two coffee machines—the only way to get coffee—broke down on day 2, leaving long coffee lines for the last 3 days. The staff were nice, but it wasn’t our style of place overall.

    8AndrewPosted on: 9-27-2023

Modern, clean and comfortable. Reception staff were very helpful in changing our double bed to a twin. Good breakfast.

Tried to get a drink in the bar twice and turned away both times

    3BernardPosted on: 9-24-2023

    not worth it

restaurant not available, bar not available, room service not available, bird**** and eggs on the jaccussi and the terras

    10RosemaryPosted on: 9-13-2023

Nice rooms and spa facilities with lovely views. The staff made us feel very welcome

There was nothing I didn’t like

    8PatriziaPosted on: 8-21-2023

Helpful staff, clean and huge room, car park included, did not use swimming pool as we left early, our room had a balcony on the seafront

Not purchased breakfast as too expensive, very far from the old town

    8CharlottePosted on: 7-31-2023

The location of the hotel is fantastic, the breakfast and the comfort in the room very good.

One has to understand and appreciate Thalasso to fully appreciate the hotel. For the non expert, Thalasso seems to center on an not particularly inviting Spa area that offers a range of applications involving ocean water. It may be good for non-French guests to explain the concept of Thalasso and what it offers.

    7KristinaPosted on: 7-25-2023

    Great rooms

The many hidden costs. All spa/water facilities requires you to rent/purchase swimsuits, robes from the hotel etc. Breakfast not included etc.

    10DavidPosted on: 7-15-2023

Great location next to a superb beach. Superb meal in restaurant.

    8SimonPosted on: 7-12-2023

Location excellent. Good standard. Reception staff excellent. Great views from terrace onto the bay. Good spa facilities.

You need to wear speedos you are not allowed shorts in pool. You need sliders to walk around in the leisure spa. You need to hire a robe. So whilst this is allegedly free with your stay, the hotel will sell you sliders starting at €10, Speedos starting at €30 and a robe hire making it an eye watering swim! Don’t forget to take the correct attire! They do advise on shorts in the pool in fairness but a better list of requirements for the leisure facility would be better.
